THE AREA
Located only one mile down the road from Nolin Lake State Park, and 13 miles* from Mammoth Cave National Park Visitor's Center, Gather at Serenity Cove is the perfect launchpad to explore Edmonson County, The Natural Place to Be!, as well as the surrounding area. It is located in a tucked away, peaceful neighborhood.
Nolin Lake State Park has a sandy beach with a dedicated swimming area, a no-fee boat ramp, bathrooms, and hiking trails at Brier Recreation Area. Lake fishing includes bass, crappie, walleye, bluegill, trout and catfish; be sure to bring your poles and favorite bait! Special fishing regulations apply.
*Mammoth Cave National Park Visitor's Center is 13 miles from the house if the Green River Ferry is open (a longer, 30-mile scenic drive through Brownsville if the ferry is closed), and is the WORLD'S LONGEST underground cave system and a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Be sure to book a tour before you go to learn about the history, geology, and exploration of the caves. Don't forget to stop by Warnell's in Brownsville on the way home if you don't take the ferry back for a step back in time and a delectable soda shoppe treat (the chocolate soda is divine!).

EATING:
Well-stocked kitchen with pots & pans, dishware, utensils, coffee bar with fixings, and more! Dishwasher with detergent pods, dish soap, sponge, and starter rolls of paper towels provided. Dining table has room for 8, or saddle up to the counter for additional seating for 4 more.
RELAXING:
Couches in main living area are conducive to settling down after a day of exploration, whether that is conversation, cards, or reading. A record player rounds out the area for some ambiance...feel free to bring along your favorites! Basement level offers another comfy couch for watching TV and a seating area for board games. And don’t forget about the dueling arcade games, foosball table, and life sized Connect 4!
OUTSIDE:
Large upper deck with outdoor dining set, lounge seating, and propane grill.
Lower concrete patio with additional seating. A lighted path leads you to chairs around the fire pit. A giant pile of firewood can be found at the side of the house...I'm still working on a better spot to store it! If too wet from spring rains, there is a guy who sells firewood off of Brier Creek road on your way in.
SECURITY:
There are outdoor security cameras at the two main entrances to the house for security purposes only. Please do not attempt to cover or otherwise disturb them.
PARKING:
Neighborhood access road and driveway are gravel and have some slope in parts (which is what makes for the scenic view!); AWD or 4WD IS RECOMMENDED, especially if weather is inclement. Our neighborhood re-gravels after spring rains are done, so it can be light on gravel and sometimes bumpy on the driveway through June. There is ample space for multiple cars on the driveway; please do not park on the lawn or on the neighborhood road. Garage itself is not available for parking.
LAKE ACCESS:
Dock access is NOT included nor available with house rental, due to stringent rules set by the Army Corps of Engineers, who govern Nolin River Lake and its shoreline. You are allowed to use the stairs (at your own risk) to get to the shoreline to access the water for swimming, fishing, or dropping in kayaks or canoes. Please note that there are 119 steps down to the lake, and coming back up often requires rest even for the healthiest individuals! Know your own limitations and act responsibly.
From the Army Corps of Engineers:
17.3.11. Facilities granted under this permit will not be leased, rented, sublet or otherwise used in the course of any commercial activity by the permittee or his/her agent for monetary gain. The use of a permitted group boat dock by individuals renting lake property constitutes unauthorized commercial activity. The use of the dock facility is intended for the mooring of the permittee’s vessel or watercraft. Such use includes the storage of gear essential to the operation of such vessel or watercraft in enclosed locker facilities.
BOATS AND RENTALS:
There is a boat ramp at the state park down the street to launch your watercraft, with no fee to do so since it is a state-operated boat ramp. There is a large parking lot and this is a great place to store your boat overnight on the trailer.
Moutardier and Wax are the closest on-lake marinas that have boat rentals. Wax is the closest by land, but the furthest by water to the lake house. Moutardier is under new ownership as of 2024 and has been fully remodeled, with a brand new fleet of pontoon boats for rental.
GROCERIES:
The house is in a peaceful, rural location, so you'll definitely want to plan to bring the majority of food and beverage in with you, and supplement at the local stores as needed, once here.
DG market is closest to the house, less than 15 minutes away. It is a convenient, newer market and has most basic provisions, should you run out of something.
The Cee Bee Food Store in Brownsville is the next closest, about 20-25 minutes away to the south. A good option if you are coming from the south, or spent the day in the National Park.
Otherwise, Walmart and Save-a-Lot in Leitchfield are roughly 40 mins north and are the the larger chains with a wider selection. Or Bowling Green has most everything you need, if coming from that direction.
Other details to note: Edmonson County is currently a dry county and does not sell alcohol. If you drink alcohol, you will need to purchase outside of county lines and bring in with you.
Nolin River Lake is a reservoir. The lake varies from 2,890 acres (11.7 km2) in the winter to 5,795 acres (23.45 km2) in the summer. Please note if visiting in the winter, winter pool levels are low/dry, exposing the lake bed. Which can be a really fun way to get outside and explore the area! Do not expect to do much fishing or swimming from the house until late April/early May, when the lake is at summer pool. Draw down to winter pool begins in mid-October.
Please remember you are in a rural, country setting….which contributes to the peace and tranquillity of the area! Along with that comes the occasional critter sighting, whether that is a deer, bunny, field mouse, bird or other animal or insect friend.
