About this property
5 Star Priory Manor Gorgeous Lake Views from Living Room, Bedrooms & Tower Room
If you are looking for a luxurious “Adult Only”, a friends weekend or a solo retreat, at a luxurious yet cozy home, ideally located in the beautiful Lake District, you have found the perfect place. Perfectly located between Bowness-On-Windermere and Ambleside, you couldn’t ask for a more central location. Three of the most sought after villages are in walking/driving distance from Priory Manor.
Built in 1869 as a private holiday home, Priory Manor is a Grade ll Victorian Gothic Mansion has sweeping views of Lake Windermere and The Lake District Fells. Situated above the beautiful grounds and rolling fields, 1 Priory Manor is the largest and most beautiful residence of The Priory Estate. With its unique Tower Room, offering a nearly 360’ bird’s eye view, its gorgeous arches, impressive staircase and stained glass windows, you will instantly know you have chosen something incredibly special to have as your home base.
Awarded the coveted 5 Star from Visit England, 1 Priory Manor offers one of the most luxe stays in The Lakes. Not only is the property one of a kind, it’s big! Situated over 4 levels and with over 1800 square feet, there is more than enough space to get comfortable, unwind and enjoy the magic of Windermere. From the minute you drive up to The Priory and absorb the history and beauty of the architecture, you know you have made the right decision.
Dripping in Gothic Architecture, The Priory is a sight to behold. Built as a private residence for William Carver, a local businessman, The Priory became his masterpiece.
The location he chose for his Manor, was on a hill with breathtaking views of Lake Windermere. To fully enjoy this magical location, Mr Carver added a Tower Room, giving him a 360* view of the grand peaks and valleys of the area.
The Priory has since been divided into two private luxurious residences. The small terraced garden residences below the hedge of the private garden, were where the green houses of The a Priory were located. The beautiful building to your right, before you entered into 1 Priory Manor, used to be the Coach House.
The main entrance, with its impressive front door, beloved tower room and grand staircase with the priceless stained glass windows, are all private and are part of 1 Priory Manor.
Entering the residence through the gothic front doors, you will find yourself in the reception room. To your right, the grand staircase, home to "The Ladies of Priory Manor".
Six eloquent stain glass windows, depicting Peace, Love, Hope, Faith, Charity and Industry. These priceless masterpieces were commissioned by William Carver and must have had significant meaning to him. Look closely and you will see that his initials were part of the harlequin pattern and the top of each window are he and his wife’s initials. He and his wife were devoted to their faith, so much so, following his death in 1875, husband sons and daughter built a chapel as a memorial, Carver Memorial Church in Windermere.
The staircase will take you up to a lovely sitting area and a long hallway to 2 of the bedrooms, to the right the Master Bedroom and to your left the Guest Bedroom. Both of these bedrooms are en-suite, have king size beds and incredible views of Lake Windermere.
Continue your way up the stairs and you will find the sitting area and the Large Owners Suite and the Guest Bedroom. The next staircases will take you up to the 3rd level and you will a smaller sitting room, providing a great getaway and the final staircase up to the tower room with it's nearly 360* views of The Lake District, it's a great place to escape and have a cup a tea or a glass of or two of bubbly.
