About this property

Hurricane Dorian wrecked havoc to our beautiful island on September 1, 2019. We have been working hard to restore/rebuild our property. We are pleased to announce the opening of both our rental homes, Gully's Ridge and Gully's Nest as well as the pool.

Located on an inlet waterway fed by the Hope Town harbour, the ONLY access to our property is by boat. We are close to the settlement but in a peaceful, private setting. The home features a private dock w/ dingy provided for harbour use, wifi, Sat. TV, A/C, and backup generator power. If your party contains more than 5 people, you'll need more space than Gully's Nest provides. Please check her sister property, Gully's Ridge # 170331 which can accommodate 7 additional guests for it's availability. We look forward to welcoming you to Seagull Cottages in the near future.

The main access to our property is by boat, but there is a foot/bicycle path as well. Gully's Nest has two bedrooms suites that flank the living/dining and kitchen area of this beautiful, secluded vacation rental home. For a couple, you can rent this home as a one bedroom/one bath home for a discounted rate. Please inquire. The home also has a large screened in porch to sit and enjoy the tropical breeze, relax in the hammock, or watch your kids play in the pool just steps from the front door. The home is surrounded by fruit trees and natural vegetation which keeps the privacy and peaceful setting in tact. We are close to the settlement for your convenience of getting to the grocery stores, gift shops and restaurants and just a stone's throw away for one of the prettiest beaches in the Abacos. Traverse across the inlet waterway in the dingy provided and walk over a small hill to a gorgeous white sandy beach on the Atlantic side of the island. We also offer and give discounts to our rental guests for Deep Sea Fishing Charters with the legendary Abaco fishing guide, Cap'n Robert Lowe. Fulfill your adventurous spirit and land a big one in the Atlantic Ocean. You can also climb our historically famous red and white candy striped lighthouse. It is the last lighthouse in the world that is still manually operated. There is a wonderful museum in the settlement full of artifacts and information of how the island was settled by Carolinian's who came here after the revolutionary war to stay loyal to the queen. You can reserve an "island hopping tour" with us or rent a boat and go exploring our neighbor islands and appreciate each one for their own independent charm or go to one of our national sea parks and snorkel over the colorful reefs full of sea life. Lots of history and activities to see and do while slowing down on your vacation and relaxing with the 'island pace.'

Finally, if you have other friends or family that want to join you, we also have another 3bedroom/2bath rental home, known as Gully's Ridge, on an adjacent property. Between the two properties, we can accommodate up to 12 people. It is nice to travel together, but great to be able to retire to your own space if desired. Come on down to see us! We are sure you won't want to leave!

Perfect Bahamas Vacation

What a glorious and relaxing stay we had at Gully's Nest! We loved the quiet location, away from the main road but quickly accessible by the dinghy to where our golf cart awaited. The property had ideal docking for our rental boat as well. Gully's Nest was warm, inviting, and comfortable, and our hosts were so kind and hospitable. Thank you for welcoming us into your home!! We hope to return for another visit!!

Absolutely loved the house, the quiet surroundings, and Karen and Robert were extremely helpful. We enjoyed getting a bit more of a sense of a local flavor by getting away from the marina and meeting folks at the dock as they cleaned their fish. Best decision to stay here!

You won’t regret taking this stunning location. It’s water access only, but you get a little boat to head into town any time you want (3 minutes by boat may be exaggerating how long it takes!). The pool is awesome as well. Super refreshing. The lot is so private. The birds sound beautiful there and the limes from the key lime tree are delicious! Do follow Karen’s advice to do the following: 1. Take a cab from airport to marsh harbour 2. If you have time, stop at Maxwells and get your groceries. Get as much as you need and have them put it in boxes. It works!! Stop and get beer or wine as well. 3. When you get to the ferry at marsh harbour, load your stuff in a wagon and bring your stuff to the dock. They will load everything on the boat for you. 4. When you get to the last stop LODGE DOCK, karen or Robert will meet you on their boat. You literally hand your bags and boxes of food over the side into their boat. Once on property, your stuff gets loaded into a golf cart and driven up to your place. That was soooo easy!!! Charter Robert to take you fishing. He knows these waters and you will have a great time! (This is from someone who is anxious on the water!) You are in good hands with Robert and Karen. Enjoy your time there. You won’t regret staying here!!

Great Stay

We had a great time at Gully's Nest. This was our 4th trip to Abaco in 8 years (3rd time in 4 years) but our first visit to Seagull Cottages. The house is in good shape and is bigger than I expected from the photos. The five of us (one on an air mattress) had plenty of room. In addition we hosted two dinner gatherings for family and friends of at least 10-12 people with no problem. On of the the dinners was a fish dinner with fresh Mutton Snapper thanks to a fishing charter with had with Robert (Karen's husband). The pool was clean and a nice treat to have after spending the day on the water. Karen, Robert and their family live on the property and are good people, very helpful, but not intrusive. You can see them as much or as little as you want. Karen was a big help in resolving a problem I had with a golf cart rental. Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend the cottage, and will rent there again when back in Abaco. A reminder that the house is only accessible by boat, which was no problem for us, but must be considered when renting.

A memorable family vacation

This was our third trip to Hopetown and our first taking our kids. Gully's nest was the perfect setting for much needed rest and relaxation for the parents. The boys (14 and 11) enjoyed the daily hammock retreat, shot some hoops on the basketball court and jumped in the pool to cool off from the days adventures. The dinghy was especially nice as we got to cruise around the harbour with not a care in the world. Karen and Robert were such gracious hosts and we even got lucky and reimbursed Robert for some fresh caught Grouper. Apparently he is a fishing legend in these parts! Karen could not have been kinder and made us feel right at home. We hope to come again and stay again....We miss Gully's nest already!

Best Vacation we've ever taken

We LOVED staying here! Karen and her husband Robert were wonderful to work with. The rental house was secluded yet right in the middle of everything. Just a 5 minute boat ride into town using the dinghy that came with the rental! The house was perfect. Clean. Fully stocked kitchen with all the necessities for cooking our catch of the day. Waking up and sitting on the front porch drinking coffee, laying in the hammock reading a book, taking a dip in the swimming pool after a day on the water, and the perfect dock to tie up our 30' boat at night. Highly recommend, you won't be sorry, book it NOW!!! Cant wait to get back there!

Beautiful, quiet, remote & accessible

Great place to stay! Very peaceful & accomodating.

We stayed three nights here and had a great experience. Very peaceful and quiet. No complaints at all. Quick and easy access to all of the amenities of Hopetown. The owner was very friendly and welcoming as well as helpful to any of our needs with luggage, directions, and transportation. We highly recommend this listing and would not hesitate to return.

Simply The Best

I can only repeat what others have already said....and it's all good!! Karen and Robert are just about the nicest people you could hope to have as your neighbours and owners of a rental house whilst on holiday. We were met off the ferry, taken to the cottage, shown the ropes with the little boat provided and within a couple of hours of arrival, Roberts brother showed up with a huge red snapper for us....it was still alive! That was supper taken care of. We knew we had found a great place. The little boat provided was 100% easy to use for first timers like us and it was fun scooting around the Harbour in it and tying up at docks which are everywhere for use. Having the swimming pool to ourselves was a luxury for the price of the rental and everything you could possibly need at the cottage was provided. We loved our week here....thank you both...Linda and Mike

Perfect Hopetown Seclusion

Robert & Karen: I wanted to thank you both for such a special stay at Gullies Nest with our family and for your wonderful hospitality. With my back problems, we would not have make it staying anywhere else or with any other hosts. It is truly the perfect place in Hopetown. Mr. Lowe's Panga ride was the only pain free part of the long trip home all the way to checking in to the Mayo Clinic emergency room. The back surgery went very well and I am almost 100% and ready for another visit. Mary Elle has a new appreciation for pineapple but cannot find any as good as your's. We look forward to seeing y'all again when the boys come home next summer!

Amazing property!

We stayed here for 12 nights and it was terrific. If you want something a little different this is it. Basically it is only accessible by boat, which is why the property includes a dinghy with motor to go back and forth across the creek. You can also take it into the harbor for restaurants & groceries. It took us a while to get used to it, but it was fun. Karen & Robert are wonderful people and great hosts. They are available if needed & are like walking history books on the island & the local waters. The property was exactly as pictured & described on the website. It is close to town, but removed enough to be very quiet at night. Everything was clean and worked well. We would definitely recommend this property.

Paradise

What a fabulous experience we had staying at Gullys nest in Elbow Cay. The location was perfect as it was extremely quite and peaceful but only a few minutes by boat to the picturesque little town of Hope Town. The small boat is provided free of charge which was perfect. The home itself was more than we could have hoped for. Extremely well maintained and clean with just the right amount of Bahamian flare. It was very spacious and well priced for Elbow Cay. Upon arrival Karen, the owner had picked an assortment of fruit from there own fruit trees and had this for us to snack on. We have stayed at many VRBO'S over the years and she was by far the most amazing host to date. She has lived on the Island for for many years and knows everyone. This was such a help to us when it came to booking a larger boat to check out some other islands and the golf cart we rented for a few days. She was always on hand with great suggestions for restuarants, things to see on the Island and places to visit on the other islands. She told us where to find the best beach on the island which was just across the canal from her home and where we had the entire beach to ourselves. My husband had a very badly sprained ankle which occurred the day we left for our vacation and Karen went out of her way to call around the friends on the island and found us a cane for him to hobble around on. She would bend over backwards for us and was so giving it made our trip even more enjoyable. Her husband is a local and is the best fisherman on the Island, unfortunately for us he was away fishing while we were there our we would have booked a day of fishing with him. This was highly recommended by many people we met. You will not be disappointed if you choose to spend your holiday at this home and the warmth and generosity of the host will just enhance your experience.

Fantastic escape

we spent a week in paradise. The front screened in porch is truly relaxing and the house location secluded enough but not a hassle to get groceries etc. The owners are super helpful and accommodating. We were greeted with fresh key limes from the property. We did rent a boat to go exploring and fishing, but the dingy was ideal for quick trips into town or over to the spectacular beach. We would love to come back. Having the pool at the end day was very refreshing.

BEST FAMILY VACATION

The Gully's nest was the perfect place for our family to reconnect and recharge! The house was great! My boys loved having a dock to fishon, play basketball and swim in the pool. We loved having our own boat to get around hopetown and neighboring islands. A dinghy is provided with your rental for use within the harbor but we rent a boat for the week so that we can island hop and fish. One of our best days was going out on Captain Rob's boat! We caught lots of fish that day and more the rest of the week. Karen and Rob are great hosts! Super helpful with anything we needed. The beaches are beautiful, our favorite was tahiti beach. Highly recommend the gully's nest!! We hope to return very soon!

Great stay in a wonderful location

We just returned from a week at Gully's Ridge. Great little cottage with plenty of room for the five in our party. Karen and her family were gracious hosts from the pick up at the ferry dock till our departure.

We are a unique couple, my husband, a native Bahamian and I am a SC transplant who visited the islands many years ago and fell in love with them. Eventually I met my soul mate, an islander, who is also known as one of the best fishermen around and I was lucky enough to catch and marry him. Together we've raised 2 fine sons and built our rental homes on a secluded piece of land, close to the Hope Town settlement. This special piece of paradise is a hidden treasure in the beautiful Abaco islands and we are proud to share it with you.

Why they chose this property

We are close to the Hope Town settlement, so it is convenient to get to any necessities, but yet, we are far enough away for you to feel like you are in your own private sanctuary. Elbow Cay/Hope Town is also centrally located in the middle of the Abaco chain of islands, so you can easily take a day and go north to explore and then head south the following day to see all the beauty these islands have to offer.

What makes this property unique

We are in protected waters of the Hope Town harbour, so there is safe dockage for your boat or rental boat. We are unique in that we offer a little more adventure than most of the rental homes on the island. Anyone can rent in the settlement and walk out their door to the store, but why not add a little adventure in your life and a story to tell your friends of how you got into a small boat and went thru the harbour to go shopping. Not only that, but you ate fresh fruit from the gardens of the vacation rental home where you stayed. That's not something everyone can talk about when they return from their vacation so come and enjoy a new adventure of our blended Southern hospitality..... Bahamian style.
