About this property

Whaletopia - Pelicans, Whales, Waves, and Starry Nights!

Experience the Oregon coast from this very special spectacular home in Arch Cape, completely rebuilt and remodeled in 2021 by architect-owners who lovingly transformed this into a full-time residence they lived in for several years. Because they spent year-round on the oceanfront, they had time to experience all the wonders that makes visiting here so special, and now they would like to share it with you, your family, and friends.

The house is situated on a large lot that is both beachfront (with private access) and perched high enough to have stunning views of everything from the two-mile beach, Castle Rock, the mountains to the east and south, the flyway for many species of birds, and the whales when they hang out for dinner a few yards from the deck while the sun is setting. The seasonal pelicans are mesmerizing as they swoop in formation to hover just above the water and close to shore to catch their favorite fish. They can hang out next to Asbury creek to the south, sometimes dozens just chilling with the seagulls who are half their size! It’s a shout out along the coastal social media when they arrive, along with the Puffins on Haystack rock to the north a few miles.

Amazing vistas await you, from the ocean waves to (winter) snowcapped 3000’ Onion Peak from the main rooms, including the kitchen, dining, family bedroom ( The Gardern suite ), loft bedroom ( Captains suite ) and primary bedroom (on the second floor with its own deck - Castle Rock suite). If not hunting agates, hiking in the hills, or enjoying the waves, it’s possible (at low tide) to walk all the way to Cannon Beach, but you will probably want to stop at Hug Point to enjoy the caves and the waterfall!

There are several outside roomy areas for groups to hang out, from the large wrap around deck to the east front patio (great spot for no wind and morning sun and coffee) to the grassy lawn for playtime which can move to the fire pit terrace for s’mores in the evening and is easily accessed by a sidewalk along the north side of the house.

Inside the main living area (with the best glass front woodstove we have ever used) has space for everyone, and there are games and puzzles galore when not watching the 75” TV. Making meals is extra special with state-of-the-art appliances, including a Wolf induction stove top, a microwave drawer, refrigerator freezer, dishwasher, and countertops made of Dekton - a new Italian countertop product ready to take hot dishes off the stove.

The interiors were designed to be bright and happy, using Scandinavian, coastal and antique inspirations in finishes and fixtures. Most of the walls of the home are custom wood paneled, with painted hemlock and natural Port Orford cedar, and patterned tiles were used to create fun and inviting spaces. A 1920s wood-stained glass entry door from a home in Cannon Beach and an antique stained-glass window from Carmel by the Sea California gives the house unique character, along with the custom staircase design of fish cut outs and bubbles of glass floats.

Other amenities that guests will enjoy include two jacuzzi tubs (primary and family bedrooms) hot water outdoor showers, German made Kettler ping pong table in the garage, basketball, boogie boards for the water lovers, and all-weather Adirondack deck chairs and cushioned chaises to park yourself and your favorite meal. In addition to the bunk beds, a captains’ bed, and full-service laundry room, the house was designed specifically to accommodate people with more limited mobility, with accessibility to the entire main floor, decks, patios, and firepit, and a bedroom with electric adjustable beds and an accessible bath ensuite. And if the power goes out, the solar back up batteries will provide some lights, plugs and power the refrigerator so you are not in the dark. Time to use the woodstove if it’s cold!

For a full list of amenities and other information, please see the attached complete description of the home and property. We look forward to hearing about all the wonderful experiences you have at Whaletopia!

Beautiful house at a beautiful location

We stayed here with grandma and 2 small kids. This place is so well put together- beautiful interior and very clean. The kitchen had every kind of seasoning you could need. Lots of towels, and beach toys. We spent a lot of time playing the many many board games kept at the property. The kids loved the games too and loved the backyard! Lots of rooms and beds. Super convenient to have washer dryer in the house. And the best part was that we were right there on the Pacific Ocean!!! We watched the sunset every evening right from the deck, we chased the waves with the kids every morning. The beach is vast and beautiful and sandy so you could spend hours on the beach - play, build sandcastles, walk around, watch the waves… We drove around the coast and went through other towns like Cannon Beach. While that was so fun too, I have to say that it made us appreciate this area so much. There were hardly any people on the beach so it never ever felt crowded. It’s like having a big sandy beach on the ocean all to yourself!

Beautiful and peaceful beach house

Whaletopia is a beautiful beach house (pictures accurately represent the property) that is a true beachfront property. You have a full beach/ocean view from all of the rooms. The kitchen is very well appointed with high end appliances and the sitting room is very comfortable. Access to the beach is through a gate in the yard or by walking out the front door and down the short path. The beach is very quiet (not many people) and it is a long/wide beach with beautiful views of rugged rocks in the ocean. There are tide pools at low tide and a waterfall to see (way down the beach). The house was perfect for our group. My Mom (87) very much appreciated the easy access of the first floor and easy access to the beach. Thank you for letting us stay!
