About this property

Historic Highlands Home in Cherokee Park with or without optional Guest Suite

Welcome to our charming duplex in the heart of Louisville's Highlands neighborhood, a vibrant area known for its unique mix of antique shops, elegant architecture, and upscale dining. Step back in time as you enter this beautifully restored 1900s home, featuring elegant chandeliers, original decorated wood floors, and gilt-framed artwork. The living area boasts impressive decorative fireplaces with pillared surrounds, adding to the historic charm.

This home is a duplex, so the upstairs may be rented during your stay. We are registered to host 6 people max in each unit. You do have the option of blocking off the upstairs unit from being rented if you reserved the main unit first. Otherwise, please know that there will be guests above you. The upstairs guest suite is accessed by an exterior staircase only, with its own entrance and is not accessible from inside the main downstairs unit. It is a true duplex. You will be in the main, and more desirable, downstairs unit, which is equipped with 1 full bath and one half bath. Plus, you will have access to the basement where the laundry is, as well as an 86" smart TV and heated floors in the winter.

Located within walking distance to all major restaurants and entertainment, our home is the perfect hub for exploring everything the Highlands has to offer. Enjoy people-watching from the porch during iconic events like the Kentucky Derby, with a neighborhood festival and live music on Derby Eve. The area is pedestrian-friendly and safe, making it ideal for leisurely strolls to discover the neighborhood's cultural and culinary delights.

For nature enthusiasts, Cherokee Park and Cave Hill Cemetery are nearby, offering picturesque landscapes and a glimpse into Louisville's history. Wildlife lovers will appreciate the park's natural beauty and the opportunity to explore its trails. Birdwatching and picnicking are popular activities in this serene setting.

Back at the house, the backyard is a beautiful spot for guests to relax. Keep an eye out for our resident blue heron, who occasionally catches goldfish from the pond. We frequently have to buy new goldfish because of the blue heron's antics. There is also a naughty squirrel in the backyard who digs in the plants, chews on hanging lights, and removes stuffing from chair cushions.

We offer off-street parking in the driveway, which can hold several cars as long as they are smaller because the driveway is very narrow. Guests need to make sure not to block the sidewalk.

If you do have a larger group, be sure to check out our option for renting both the main unit and the guest suite. Alternatively, feel free to message us with any questions or special requests. We look forward to having you stay with us!

About the host

Hosted by Deborah Gill

Host profile image
My husband and I have worked in the rental business in Kentucky for almost 40 years. Originally from Canada and California, we fell in love with Kentucky and have made it our home, raising our two children here.

Hosting guests is more than a job for us – it's a passion. We love meeting new people and sharing the beauty of Kentucky with others. Our goal is to provide a welcoming and comfortable retreat for our guests, ensuring they have an unforgettable stay.

When you stay at our charming Highlands duplex, you're not just booking a place to stay – you're immersing yourself in the warm hospitality and rich history of Kentucky, curated by two hosts who truly love what they do.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with the Highlands neighborhood for its unique charm and vibrant atmosphere. Its mix of antique shops, elegant architecture, and upscale dining create a truly special ambiance. What we love most about the Highlands is its lively cultural scene, with art galleries, music venues, and boutiques lining the streets. It's a pedestrian-friendly area with a welcoming community feel, making it a perfect place to call home. The neighborhood's rich history, dating back to the mid 19th century, adds to its appeal. From its early days as a streetcar suburb to its role in the Civil War, the Highlands has a fascinating past that is still evident in its architecture and landmarks. Nearby Cherokee Park, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, offers a serene retreat from city life and is a testament to the area's commitment to preserving its natural beauty.

What makes this property unique

What sets our property apart is its thoughtful design and attention to detail. The main unit is professionally decorated, tastefully furnished and equipped with a full kitchen, providing guests with the convenience of home during their stay. The backyard is a beautiful spot to unwind and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Our duplex holds a unique position in the neighborhood, being the first house built on the street and now standing next door to the last house built on the street. This historic context adds to the charm and character of our home.

Experience the famously friendly hospitality of the Highlands, where neighbors are known for their welcoming spirit.

With easy access to major restaurants, entertainment, and transportation options, our duplex is the perfect home base for experiencing the vibrant culture and rich history of Louisville.
