We really enjoyed our stay. The whole place was clean. The view was incredible and we had everything we needed for some light cooking. Barbara, the host was excellent with communication. The wood burning stove which is used for heat in the main house might not be for everyone but we loved it. The casita was perfect for our young adult kids. If I had to think of one thing I didn’t like, it would be that there was no real mirror in the bathroom—just a tiny stand alone style mirror. We definitely recommend this place if you want something fun and out of the ordinary.
Great time in Marfa and surrounding areas for thanksgiving week. Fully equipped kitchen in main house that allowed us to prepare our traditional thanksgiving feast even while on the road. Convenient to activities in Alpine, Terlingua and Big Bend.
the pictures on VRBO do not do this property justice. the home is modern and spacious. the main house with two bedrooms and baths, kitchen and large living space. The master is very big with walk-in in closet and sitting area. There is a BONUS little apartment included.
The home sits on a very large property, good for walking, exploring and reflection. No neighbors on the north side, just beautiful wide open space. The patio faces north and has a seating are perfect for morning coffee.
Definitely made our top 5 FAV rentals!
I can't imagine a more perfect stay in Marfa. Our family enjoyed the space inside and out. Every detail is thoughtful and artfully curated to make you comfortable, but to take advantage of the spacious and amazing Marfa Sky. We saw a prong horn antelope! You can't see that in Dallas! Don't look anywhere else to stay in Marfa, this is THE SPOT. Thank you Barbara!
Artist residence; remote feel just 2 miles from town
Artist residence; pueblo design overlooking the majestic Marfa openness. We needed uninterrupted, open time to prepare for a work project and came to Marfa. The owner put us in touch with the property overseer and she purchased groceries ahead of time for us, which was a tremendous help. We recommend this property and would visit again.
Wonderful views of the high desert and mountains made a great backdrop for our Christmas festivities. Despite the very cold temperatures the wood burning stove and fireplace kept us warm and cozy.
This property was truly a pleasure to stay at. I will visit Marfa in the future just to stay at this house. The home itself was tasteful and beautiful. Breathtaking view (especially at golden hour). Kitchen was stocked with all necessities. Barbara was very friendly and helpful. Such great memories made here! 10/10!
Great view, spacious house, tastefully furnished, host was very accommodating.
Plenty of room for six people between both the main house and casita. Home was nicely furnished and owner was welcoming guests and accommodating. Only downside is no a/c in main house, which was uncomfortable in August when we visited.
We are so happy that we chose this house instead of other options closer to the center. The property is beautiful with stunning views of the surrounding landscape and great light. It was such a joy to wake up in this house. The main house and the casita together provided the perfect combination of spaces to gather or find quiet when needed.
My friend and I really enjoyed our stay here. The property is beautiful with lovely unobstructed views. The living spaces and bedrooms are also well appointed and comfortable. The location is great because you get the feel of being out on the high desert but town is less than 10 minutes away. It's a great location to relax, soak in the natural beauty, and take advantage of what the area has to offer. Barbara was also very helpful and made herself available for any questions. We hope to return one day!
The property, inside and out, is amazing! The view is incredible and the feeling of being "in the middle of nowhere", but just minutes to downtown Marfa was wonderful. The home was delightful for our week's stay. However, I think it is good to remember that there will be "critters" and some dirt that just happens from where this home is located. The sound of the coyotes was wonderful. The stars were absolutely amazing. We made day trips to Alpine, Marathon, and Fort Davis. Marfa and the Marfa Lights (YES, we DID see them!!) were enchanting. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
This place has the magic of West Texas all over it!
Barbara was amazing and answered all of our questions promptly and kindly. Her adobe home was an absolute dream to stay in, we wish we had more time to spend there. If you're looking for a get away with friends and loved ones this is a wonderful place to stay.
Nice location, but needs work. Shower heads are poor, guest bath dark, bugs in light globe, outside looks junky - one wall needs repair, has a board held by 2 chairs and bricks. One 5oz bottle of bath soap half empty in guest bath, nothing else - no lotion, shampoo, etc., no wash cloths. Several windows couldn't be opened with notes taped to windowsill. Look at the pictures of the mirrors in the master bath - terrible. Probably expecting too much since we had stayed at several places that were so welcoming - bottle of wine, gift baskets for breakfast, etc. Nothing here. Communication was great with owner, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, everything clean on inside. This place could be great if some work was done and updated.
We've spent time in Marfa every year for the last 6-7 years, and this is the best house we've found so far. Plenty of room and the views from the house and the patios are fantastic. Very peaceful and scenic - it's hard to believe you're just on the outskirts of town. And you don't hear the train! Barbara was wonderful in getting us checked-in and situated.
This is lovely place to visit. The house looks just like the pictures shown online. The view across the desert is beautiful and we enjoyed our stay very much.. Our hostess was so nice and very helpful as we ended up needing to come three days before we had scheduled.
Should you stay in Marfa? Absolutely. This property is amazing and very vell worth it. Surely you’ll appreciate the architecture and the view from the backyard is second to none. It is rural so I recommend arriving early before nightime as google maps and Apple maps are unreliable. Highly recommended!
The property was wonderful. It met all
our expectations and more. Very clean, comfortable and peaceful. And, as advertised, the views were spectacular. We didn’t cook much but the kitchen was more than well equipped. In fact, the whole house was. Coming back to the house for drinks on the patio, watching a glorious sunset after some interesting day trips made this a special vacation. Oh, and morning coffee on the patio wasn’t too shabby either.

About the host
Hosted by Barbara Tennant
Owners are architects and builder of the property. While new construction in Marfa is a challenging undertaking, the result is well worth the effort. Note: We recently completed construction of a two room, two bath, plus kitchenette casita next to the house to offer families and "pods" a larger place to stay while exploring West Texas.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with Marfa on our first visit and traveled back to the town from Houston two weeks later to purchase land and begin our project. The sun is dependable in Marfa. Days are always bright and nights are cool in the summer. The landscape of this area includes broad vistas that inspire artists and photographers.
What makes this property unique
Our home, situated at a highpoint outside of town offers an amazing view of the surrounding plateau. The home is cozy and has everything you may need for a comfortable stay. A Rumsford fireplace in the living area adds to the relaxing atmosphere in the winter. A Rockport wood burning stove warms up the interior spaces. The 14' adobe walls keep the home cool and comfortable in the summer months. Sit in the middle of the south courtyard on a moonless night and ponder the Milky Way. The Casita has central heating and central air conditioning. (see separate VRBO listing #2897641)
