About this property

THE ROOST - Secluded Log Cabin, Hot Tub, Pool Table, Only 13 Miles from Downtown

The Roost is once again fully functional! Book this 4 bedroom, 3 bath log cabin that lies at the end of a long, extended driveway. It provides the peaceful serenity desired by folks who want to get away, but also be just a short distance from downtown Asheville (just 13 miles!) The Roost lies on 4 acres of land, and includes a small stream in certain areas, several types of fruit trees, and a huge wrap around deck for outdoor entertaining. The Roost can accommodate up to 14 guests (please read on to get more info about the number of beds, and sleeping accommodations), and boasts a huge 7-person hot tub, pool foosball and poker table, fire pit, a 65' HDTV w/home theatre system, and so much more! The kitchen is fully stocked with absolutely everything you'd need to entertain a large group of people. In addition to being custom built, The Roost also features several local artist paintings/installations, that help give it a truly unique feel. An incredible amount of love was put into this property to make it the special place that it is.

The downstairs provides entertainment for the entire family. There is a pool & foosball table and antique poker table with chips and cards. The 65' HDTV has Direct TV, a blue ray DVD player and a home theatre system. The couch is extremely large and incredibly comfy, so the whole family can enjoy a cinematic experience together in style. There is also a separate checkers and chess table, as well as a surplus of board games. Additionally, there is a separate full size bed that functions as another sitting/sleeping/relaxing area.

Three of the four bedrooms (2 kings and a queen) and 2 full baths are on the main floor, while the kids room with 2 sets of bunk beds (a twin and full bunk) is downstairs. The kids room has a 32' HDTV (w/Direct TV, DVD player and a Wii console), so they'll be entertained for hours! Adults can be on the main floor late, hang in front of the fire, watch TV (there's one in the Armoire next to the fireplace w/Direct TV), and have access to the kitchen etc. without disturbing the kids. The upstairs master and queen bedroom have ceiling fans and direct access to the beautiful wrap around deck. The queen bedroom has an attached bathroom with an incredible jacuzzi tub, so it is in essence another master bedroom. The bathroom is shared with the 3rd bedroom (not attached but right next door), and features a hand made king bed by an Asheville furniture designer. Therefore in all there are 2 Kings, 1 Queen, 3 Fulls, and 3 Twins (1 of the twins being the pullout couch). The Roost accommodates sleeping for 14 if you account for 2 people sharing beds for the Kings, Queen, and Fulls (not twins).

The kitchen is large, and has all the appliances necessary to cook for large groups. There is also a grill outside that is available to guests. Attached to the kitchen is a front loading washer and dryer set, with plenty of detergent and dryer sheets so you can do laundry at anytime. The cabin has all the necessary linens for the beds, and has plenty bath towels, wash clothes etc.

The Roost lies at the end of a very long driveway, so it is quiet and peaceful with absolutely no road noise. There are several hiking trails on the property to explore, as well as a stream to discover on your hike. The landscaping is gorgeous, with several types of fruit trees, flowers, plants etc. There is also a large fire pit with spots for 15 people. There is plenty of parking, including a carport for up to 2 vehicles.

If you're looking for a beautiful and luxurious place that can accommodate a family or large group then look no further. The Roost has everything you need to make your vacation truly one to remember!

Quick Trip to Asheville

We planned a quick trip to Asheville and were fortunate to stay at the Roost. The house is just as listed and we were just a short drive to shops and restaurants in downtown Asheville. The kitchen is well stocked, there was plenty for my kids to do at the house while we made our plans for the day each morning. Asheville is still recovering from Helene so we were limited in what was open for outdoor adventures but most of downtown is back open. The house is well secluded and has a long gravel driveway. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and my kids have been recommending the house to their friends since we got back.

Perfect Getaway!!

This cabin was an oasis of perfection in an area recovering from a terrible storm. It was sad driving through nearby areas to get there, but this place seemed unscarred by the devastation! It was perfectly decorated. The beds were comfy with nice pillows and linens. And plenty of linens too. The kitchen had everything we could need. We grilled out and were in the large hot tub every night. We slept like babies with the black out curtains. The boys loved the games downstairs. Bathrooms were nice and spotless. They certainly thought of everything!!

Enjoyed the Roost

Beautiful cabin in the woods! Fantastic deck for hanging outside. Great for kids and dogs. We enjoyed the hot tub and made s’mores by the fire! Location is not too far from downtown Asheville, Biltmore or Sierra Nevada. We will recommend to our friends and family and will stay here again!

NC Family Trip

The property was good for our large group. It was clean and had all the amenities that were advertised. The manager kindly let us know that the house was ready and we could check in early. There was plenty of space for the kids to enjoy all of the lower level amenities when we returned from our excursions.

Great location for a family gathering

We had a wonderful time gathering for a 50th anniversary celebration. The Roost is well appointed and was the perfect amount of space for our group of 9. The tween/teen kids loved all of the games and basement space for entertainment. The large dining table was the perfect spot for family meals and evening group games. We had everything that we needed for a comfortable stay. Both the owner and property manager were incredibly helpful and very responsive and offered wonderful suggestions for the Asheville area. It was a great week!

Perfect all around!

Stayed at the roost for a long weekend with a party of 14 for a 40th birthday. The property was absolutely beautiful and clean. Communication with owner and property manager was amazing and very helpful in planning our trip ahead of time. Recommendations made for tours, hikes and a private chef made our trip so memorable and special. Would love to return in the future for another group gathering. Perfect place to get out of the city and make lasting memories!

Everything you could ever want

We enjoyed our stay at the roost. We had two families staying for a long spring break weekend and we couldn’t say enough good things about this home. There was enough room for everyone to sleep and play. Anything and everything you could want! We were thoroughly impressed by the organization of the home. I don’t think I have stayed in a better vrbo in my life. If you thinking about booking this home just do it! You won’t regret it.

Xmas in Asheville

We absolutely loved our stay! Wonderful game area in the lower level. We cooked every night and there was everything we needed in the kitchen. Hot tub was used every day as well. We enjoyed exploring Asheville during the day and then the quiet of Fairview and the location of the home at night.

Amazingly Wonderful and Relaxing

I Love the long wooded driveway that leads up to the property! The serene setting in the woods was exactly what my family needed. And on days we ventured out, everything was within 20 minute's. The organization of the kitchen and each room was perfect. I truly did not want to leave! 3 of our 5 kids and their spouses also enjoyed the Roost. My 3 year old Grandson cried when we left. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin!

Great place!

We had a great time here. The house is well appointed and very secluded. Everything is 20-30’ away. Everyone was able to have their own bedroom and there were plenty of things to do and space to stretch out. The neighbors dogs are somewhat noisy and the clearance of the driveway coming in can be sketchy, but overall a great place!

Great House & Tons of Fun!

The overall house was amazing. The amenities inside were great. Plenty of stuff to do. The downstairs game room was the game changer for our kids. Definitely will stay there again. I wish the location had a little bit better town, but it is very quiet and serene, if you would like to have quality time.

Great Family Summer Vacation Spot

My extended family stayed here for a week and absolutely loved our stay! It was a very private spot that had absolutely everything we could want and more, and was only a few minutes from a supermarket and local breweries, and a short trip to downtown Asheville. We had 3 kids under 2.5 with us and the place worked perfectly. Our hosts were super communicative and able to help us with anything we needed. The place was very well equipped and provided for a great place to cook together, play games, relax in the hot tub, sit by the fire, and generally enjoy ourselves immensely without having to leave the property at all. Highly recommended!

Excellent Home for Asheville Visit

The Root was the perfect location for our family gathering in Asheville. We loved everything about the house. It had everything we needed, it was cozy and well appointed. We had a ton of fun in the game room - cozy movie watching, fierce pool tournament, football, you name it. I highly recommend this well cared for property.

Great vacation home!

This location was perfect for a group of 10 to comfortably spread out as this home was very spacious and offered several sleeping options! It also had enough amenities to keep us entertained! The host was great at communicating throughout our stay and wanted to make sure everything was going well and we were comfortable. The details in the home are beautiful and everything is well kept! The only downside is if you are looking for transportation, the best method is renting a car as Ubers are hard to locate in this area. Luckily the host communicated that with us before our stay so we did not have trouble getting into town

Cabin in the woods

Our family stayed here for spring break 2023. We had a wonderful time. The house is very clean and organized. It has plenty to do to keep both adults and kids busy. Surrounded by woods but still fairly close to the city. We reached out to the owner once and he responded immediately to us.

About the host

Hosted by Rich Brownstein

Host profile image
My name is Rich, and I am a 38 year old full time musician. I started piano lessons at the age of 4, and graduated high school from Interlochen Arts Academy. I got my undergraduate degree from NYU where I studied jazz piano and music technology. I grew up right outside of Boston, and although I haven't lived there in nearly 16 years, I'm a die hard Boston sports fan. After graduating NYU I got a job working for the legendary Cafe Wha? (where Jimi Hendrix was discovered, and Bob Dylan played his first shows in NYC) in New York City, where I was responsible for booking talent, marketing the club, customer inquiries, and the head agent for The Cafe Wha? House Band. As the head agent, I was in charge of hiring the band out for weddings, private functions, corporate events etc. If you're ever in NYC, make sure to check them out!

When I was 27, I wanted to pursue my dream of being a touring musician. Myself, and my girlfriend at the time who was the lead singer, convinced the entire band to leave their lives in New York, and move into a house together in Asheville NC. We played over 300 shows together and traveled as far south as Key West, and as far north as Boston.

I love virtually all sports, delicious food, sitting by the fire and reading, and spending time with my family just to name a few.

Why they chose this property

I sold the condo I bought in Brooklyn in the middle of 2014, and was looking for a great investment property. Originally I was looking at multi unit apartments, duplexes etc. but I quickly realized it wasn't something I was excited about. My realtor, who is now a very good friend of mine, showed me this property, now called The Roost, and I thought, 'wow, this would be an incredible vacation rental!' The other obvious benefit is when it isn't rented, I'd be able to leave my small apartment in Asheville and spend time here. It was a no brainer really. For 2 straight months, myself, girlfriend and a few friends remodeled the entire basement. We ripped up carpets, installed beautiful new floors, painted the whole house (at 3200 sq. ft thats a lot of painting!), and cleaned for what seemed like an eternity. I wanted to make The Roost the ultimate getaway, and since I plan to stay here when it's not rented, I've made every effort to do just that!

What makes this property unique

I love The Roost because it is close to downtown Asheville, but has the feeling you're in the middle of nowhere. The extended driveway (probably 1/4 of a mile or more) is shared with only 1 other house, and since The Roost lies at the end of the driveway, no cars other than people you are expecting pass through. The previous owner invested tens of thousands of dollars in landscaping, so the property is full of all types of fruit trees, flowers, and exotic plants. The hiking trails are really enjoyable to walk on, and on a clear night, the stars shine brighter than any place I've been before. The inside of the cabin itself feels very homey, and I loved the idea of entertaining guests, which is easy given its size. The first people to stay at the house were my girlfriends entire family over Christmas (16 to be exact), and it didn't feel cramped at all. The wrap around deck is accessible from the two main bedrooms on the first floor, which is wonderful as well. I looked at dozens of properties, and as soon as I saw this one, I just knew it was the one. I haven't regretted it for a second. It's an incredible home, and wonderful place to lay your head.
