Ready to escape the city? Waterfall retreat home w/ river running through it!

CLOSED. Please check out our new property: SEQUOIA FALLS #4576891

As seen in Sunset magazine, Wall Street Journal and the New York Times!

Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright student, Frank Robert, Kaweah Falls is a modern rustic retreat home tucked away at the base of the Sequoia National Park in the cozy Sierra Nevada mountain town of Three Rivers, CA—an easy 3.5 hrs. from LA, 4.5 hrs from SF, and 1+ hr from Fresno Yosemite International airport.

A finalist in Dwell magazine's 2010 'Houses We Love' competition, the home bridges a regulated water flume leading to a private sandy beach and a year-round active waterfall. While sipping wine at the bar you can watch rainbow trout swimming below through a glass-bottomed floor.

This one of-a-kind vacation home makes the ultimate escape from the city, the ideal writer's retreat (finally finish that novel or screenplay) or simply a place to recharge, far away from the hustle and bustle

Plan your escape to Sequoia!: Kaweah Falls is the ultimate base camp for your exploration of the Sequoia National Park.

(from Visit Sequoia website) 'California's Sequoia National Park is an unspoiled treasure of some of the most striking scenery in the world. From its towering giant sequoia trees and soaring mountain peaks to cascading creeks, flowering meadows, and star-studded evening skies, you'll be inspired by this breathtaking national forest vacation destination.

Established in 1890, and recently featured in the Ken Burns PBS documentary 'The National Parks: America's Best Idea', Sequoia National Park is California's first national park and America's second oldest. With more than 1 million annual visitors, Sequoia National Forest is a popular destination for guests from around the world.

At Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks, you’ll find the five largest living giant sequoia trees in the world.'

Come see the largest living tree on Earth! : The General Sherman tree is estimated to be between 2300-2700 years old, and if you've never seen it, a day trip is a must. (Kaweah Falls is located 2 miles from the entrance to Sequoia Park.)

'Often referred to as one of California's best national forest family vacation destinations, Sequoia offers a myriad of year-round visitor attractions and recreational activities. Spring and summer offer sensational hiking, horseback riding, fishing, and cave tours. Winter boasts some of the finest cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snow play to be found in the Sierras. And throughout the year, Sequoia National Forest features ranger naturalist programs, nature walks, visitor centers, and interpretive museum exhibits to please all ages and interests.'

Experience the magic of Kaweah Falls: After you've enjoyed a memorable picnic amongst the towering Sequoias in the Giant Forest, climbed the steps to the soaring peak of Moro Rock (where you can see Russia!), and strolled through Crescent Meadow and likely spotted black bears grazing, then it's time to come down the mountain where your luxury compound awaits: cook out on the grill, enjoy a nice bottle of wine, and roast S'mores around he campfire.

After marveling at all the stars (more than you've likely seen before), retire to your cozy chambers and let the waterfall lull you into a restful sleep. For adventure seekers, white water rafting in Three Rivers is world-class (May-July); or if your idea of adventure involves a hammock and a good book, you'll be right at home. If you plan your visit in late summer, there's no better place to take a dip than Kaweah Falls. And if you're one that likes to get away, but just can't disconnect, not to worry: you can check email and surf the internet from your private river deck.

Beautiful and Relaxing Retreat

October 22-25, 2015 Guests #243 Chris was super responsive as we were booking our stay, and provided us with a comprehensive guide to the local area. From the moment we stepped onto the property, we greatly enjoyed the beautiful home and incredible setting. Everyone had a fabulous time—3 families including 3 toddlers and two 5 month old babies! We arranged for Maria to prepare dinner on two nights and they were so delicious. Both her and Fred were so wonderful and helpful! We enjoyed sitting by the river during the day, and relaxing around the campfire in the evening. We roasted marshmallows and made s'mores! The children loved running around the sandy beach and dipping their toes in the river. We saw several black bears during our stay. We didn't want to leave!!! Over the River and In the Woods

We were a Thanksgiving gathering of eight with our ages ranging from 6 to 90. I know I speak for all when I say there was nothing to suggest for improvement. Reservations and advance information complete and responsive to requests. The photography raised our level of expectation but it was exceeded by the actual experience. Nothing had been overlooked in providing for our comfort and anticipating our needs. Thank you Chris, Charles, Maria, Fred, and Kaweah Falls for our memorable Thanksgiving. Incredible Journey in Nature!

What an incredible home! Thank you so much for allowing our family to share in the wonder and beauty of Kaweah Falls! The pictures, truly, do not do it justice. Our family will cherish the time we spent here. We saw at least 4 bears - different bears! - during our stay! That was the icing on the cake for us - our kids were fascinated! We are only sad we had to leave and sad to learn we are among the last who may stay in this beautiful home. But we will treasure the memories! Thank you! The Rodriguez Family

A magical place!

Sept. 11, 2015 Guest# 233 What a magical place! Everything was so perfect, relaxing and breathtaking! We saw every creature great and small at this house. There were times it was too unbelievable at how truly beautiful everything was. I kept pinching myself to wake up. Chris, Maria, and Fred — you are all amazing and truly wonderful people. Thank you for allowing us to pester you all and make us feel at home. We will never forget our experiences and are so grateful we found you. We hope our paths cross again soon. Beautiful home

Beautiful home. Welcomed with fresh baked muffins by Maria. Loved the location-so close to Sequoia National Park. Enjoyed the beauty of the backyard and the peacefulness of the home. Would definitely recommend to family/friends. Chris was very helpful and so easy to work with. We had a question and he responded immediately. Here is what our daughter wrote in the guest book 9/3/15 I don’t know where to start - This beautiful house was amazing! Me and my family were so grateful we had 3 days to enjoy this house. The backyard was so cool!! I put my feet in the river it felt so good! Me and my dad saw baby trout. They were so cute!! Anyway, if I had to pick my favorite part of the house it was….ALL OF IT!!!! I wish I could stay longer. Thank you Chris for everything ❤️ -Elle Age 10

The perfect place for a family reunion.

Everything was perfectly arranged to make us feel welcome from the moment we walked in - the muffins and fruit, the dog bowls. We have had a great time wading in the creek, toasting s’mores, playing board games at the table, visiting the park, swimming in the swimming hole - and just relaxing in all of the great relaxing places. We were sad to leave and hope to return.

Third Time & Still Charmed by This Amazing Place

Our 3rd stay at Kaweah Falls was accented by the Rough Fire in Kings Canyon. We were not deterred and there was still plenty of water in the river here. We love this property and this area and the fire and smoke in the park only made us begin to look in new directions. We took a hike out South Fork Drive that was absolutely lovely and we were so pleased to have found an extraordinary lunch spot accented by waterfalls. We love coming here. It was another great and relaxing week!

Such Peace!

August 13, 2015 After a long and boring drive from San Francisco we arrived to find an oasis of beauty, peace and relaxation! The constant rushing of the water was so relaxing and meditative.! We all looked forward to returning home after our long, hot days of expolring the Sequioa National Park. Thank you for making the home and property so lovely and inviting. Maria and Fred were so helpful and such wonderful cooks. We enjoyed the lovely Mexican meal made by Maria on our last evening here. We hope to visit this paradise again… The Sudols and Hollands from Pittsburgh, PA and Frisco, CO (#228 house guests) My favorite part was the creek and pretty house! Adela, age 10 I really enjoyed the watering hole up stream, the nat. park, Moro Rock and the General Sherman. But my favorite part was the spending time with my family by the fire and the river. But mostly the house was the best! Konrad, age 11

We barely left this wonderful property!

To Chris & Charles, You two have created an oasis of curated charm and profound peace. We learned how to “Survive in the Woods,” i.e. one should come to Kaweah Falls. Every little thing has been carefully provided, and we treated it like home. We celebrated a birthday here with wine from Paso Robles and ate excellent skinny pork chops from Village Mkt. with garlic & chiles and crisped on the grill. There seemed to real need to leave the property -- except for our excursion up to General Sherman's tree. We didn’t build a fire - at this time of year - but can imagine returning in the fall to do so. The River: Well, we have a profound new appreciation for the preciousness of our water here in the Great State of California. Swimming and wading and splashing and boulder-hopping were, hands-down, the highlights of an excellent week! Thank you for sharing! Binns Party PS Don't miss the wonderful farm stand, called Sequoia, on the road up to Three Rivers, after leaving Visalia and just when it begins to wind up into the foothills. It's on the right.

Exceeds expectations!

I have stayed at quite a few "trophy" properties through VRBO,but this was our favorite. Its rare that something exceeds ones imagination but this home did and much more. Upon entering the locked gate and walking down the stairs you are greeted by lush vegetation and the wonderful song of the Kaweah River. Our party consisted of 4 adult couples. All of us were treated to nicely appointed rooms with good beds and private bath facilities. The outdoor "rooms" are incredible and having an open pit fireplace next to the river was our favorite. As the sun set and the temp dropped, it made for a terrific spot to gather after dinner and reflect on the days events. Chris Keller, our host, has compiled a comprehensive assortment of extras on the property to insure our comfort. His communications are quick and sensitive to the varied needs of his guests.

Unique and Special Haven

This was one of the most relaxing vacations we've ever had. This property is so unique it has to be seen to be believed especially if you're a Frank Lloyd Wright fan. There were so many intimate places to relax on your own or join the others in your party in the wonderful common areas. Everything is as advertised and more. The owners' suggestions in emails and in the guest book are spot on. Our highlights were the bear sightings in the Park but the river deck in early AM for coffee and evenings for relaxing after the day's activities was the BEST! We cooked in most nights and the kitchen has everything you need. Thanks for opening your home. The Getz Family

Truly Paradise!

June 2015 What an incredibly beautiful place to stay. The river was so wonderful and restful. The house was amazing from the architecture to the decor. The appointments were perfect and very objet d’art unique and beautiful. It’s like another world being here, and you have thought of every possible need for people who are away from home. Thank you for such a great experience. I will remember the “river house” for the rest of my life. Barbara Barrett Evansville, Indiana Tuesday, June 7th, 2015 Had a great time in the home and in the apartment downstairs. Swimming in the river and warming up by the fire pit was a blast. Also, hid a million dollars worth of gold in the house. Good luck finding it! Annie Engelbrecht (16 years old) & Jayda Alexander P.S. We saw a bear! June, 2015 Everything was so beautiful! The people in town, the trees, the bears - all very friendly. Thanks for helping us have a great vacation. Dan Engelbrecht June 3-7, 2015 Truly Paradise! We look forward to coming back. It was hard saying goodbye to this beautiful place. You definitely do not get views like this in Texas. Our group was so grateful to experience the Sequoia National Forest and the beautiful state of CALIFORNIA! We saw bears, climbed to the top of the hump on the Lakes Trail, and TRAVIS PROPOSED to Amanda at 9200 ft! She said YESS!! This trip was one to remember FOREVER! We will be BACK! See you soon! Heaven Redux (3rd visit, fourth already scheduled)

May 23rd - Really - it’s time to leave already?? How is it possible that (8) days have passed since we walked in the door again (guests #157 - #184 & now!!) Your home never disappoints the huge expectations we look forward to all season long, knowing it’s just a few short months till we are welcomed back. This stay was just as inspiring & relaxing, and this time we actually got into serious walking & hiking (not bad for two seniors…). Thank you Chris & Charles for sharing your oasis with us. And, of course, the stay was only enhanced with the care & affection of sweet Maria & awesome Fred - you guys perform magic and it is so appreciated. This trip was even more special. Sharing times w/our kids here - showing off the house as if it was our very own - that’s how we feel as soon as we walk into the grounds. Can’t wait to come back & re-charge. We don’t forget for a minute how lucky & privileged we are to spend time at this magnificent slice of heaven - Peace - love XOXO Susan & Philip

Amazing "tree house" on the river!

Thank you Chris for sharing your exceptional home with us and the Bow Wows. From the moment we arrived and Fred welcomed us, the transformation began. Before we descended the stairs we could hear the sound of rushing water and the anticipation of something wonderful waiting below did not disappoint. I had read the complimentary reviews before we arrived but no one could describe your retreat beffitingly. The setting on the river, the feng shui of the house, the perfect weather all combined to fulfill the soul. We live at the ocean and that too has wonderful qualities, but we thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful oasis you have created in Three Rivers. We thank you for sharing and our puppies thank you for the BEST vacation ever! We don't want to leave but just the thought of returning makes it easier. We are hoping to do just that this coming fall AND next spring.

Our favorite place!!!

2-8-2015 So happy to be the 195th guests. Wow! This is our 9th stay and we fall more in love with Kaweah Falls every time. We were blessed with many animal sightings - ducks, hawks, heron, a flock of wild turkeys, a fox...and of course Rosa, the sweet dog next door. She and Brady have become pals! We are so sad to leave (as usual) especially since the rain has replenished the river. Such a beautiful place. It is truly our home away from home. Until next time. Second Stay -- Through Charley's Eyes

Our first stay was in May 2014, and you may read our (Philip4) review below. Since there are only so many ways to say "fabulous", I'll let the newest member of our family complete this review: Hi! My name is Charley, and they tell me I'm a 6-month-old Miniature American Shepherd. My parents came here the first time last May, right before I was born, but they took me along on this, their second visit. All I can say is: WOW! Right next to the outdoor grill there was a whole closet full of stuff for ME! Blankets, cushions, dishes, poop bags (excuse me), and even some toys. It was like they knew I was coming! My parents brought a crate to keep me safe and my favorite food, but everything else I needed was right there! Every day my parents and I walked the nearby roads and trails, where they talked to the neighbors out walking their own puppies. I saw horses and some mules, even a llama one day! What great smells! Except for the bear poop; I didn't like that. I saw three bears, a mama and two cubs, right next to the house one morning. They were cute, but scary! Don't even ask about the river! I swam (well, jumped around) in the river right by the house every day! It was great! (Of course, my parents kept me on a leash the whole time even though I begged to be let loose, but still...) Sometimes they took me into town, where there were some great places for them to eat and for me to sniff. The restaurants had outdoor seating, so I could be there too. In fact, almost everyone has a dog there and I made many great friends. Before we left (I hated going back to boring old Los Angeles, where there are no bears), my parents told me they are already booked for their third visit in May 2015, so I left a lot of pee-mail for my new friends letting them know I'll see them soon! I can't wait!!!

Reconnect with Nature -- and with Yourselves

Calling this a "vacation home" is at best an understatement, and at worst completely misleading. This is a magnificent home belonging to the best friends you wish you had, who have invited you to stay while they're away -- people of impeccable taste, able and willing to anticipate your every need. Bring only your clothes (if you must) and whatever food you plan to cook (available in the nearby market). Everything else, from condiments to bandaids to....you name it...is there for you. My wife and I stayed here for a week -- just the two of us -- and it was one of the most relaxing vacations we've ever had. From the morning, when we had our coffee on the waterfall deck; to the evening, when we grilled our dinner and ate at the outside dining table; to the nighttime, when we sat around a small fire outside soaking in the sounds of the river; every day was perfect from beginning to end. One day we hiked in Sequoia NP, but the other days found us wandering the nearby hiking paths, meeting the wonderful neighbors (entirely invisible unless we ventured off the property), and absorbing the natural beauty surrounding the home. Expensive? Compared to what? The mental peace provided by a few days' stay here is beyond price, and something we've rarely encountered elsewhere. That's why we've already booked our next week's stay, in the fall. Oh, and if you do go, take Chris' advice on where to eat and what to do. He's spot on. And say hello to Fred and his lovely wife Maria, the home's welcoming caretakers.

Utterly Amazing!!

From the moment we walked into this beautiful home to the moment we left both my husband and I were in awe of how wonderful this home lends itself to its surroundings. The deck for eating dinner while listening to the wind through the leaves and the sound of the water below was so peaceful. I believe our favorite spot was the dock where we spent our nights with a glass of wine while watching the sun go down. Our dogs enjoyed the beach area and lounging in the grass. Thank you so much Chris for opening your home. Maria, thank you for your muffins and your kindness. We will definitely return. Louise, Glenn, Montana & Cheyenne (The Mastiff twins) Carefree, AZ
