Comfortable, Quiet, and Remote Studio On A Working Ranch In Southern Arizona

Enjoy a place away from the city while visiting the beautiful Chiricahua Mountains. This studio is on a working cattle ranch near the Chiricahua National Monument and Pinery Canyon of the Coronado National Forest both noted for their excellent birding, wildlife and hiking opportunities--a photographers paradise.

Relax with our majestic sunsets, dark nights and our peaceful, quiet country atmosphere from the comfort of our accommodations where day trips to Ft. Bowie National Monument, Bisbee, Douglas, Tombstone, Portal and Willcox are easily accessible. The Willcox area is also becoming a winery destination with 13 tasting rooms in the vicinity.

Available for your comfort: 2 queen beds, pull out couch, central air and heat, wifi, kitchenette. However, there is no TV and only emergency phone service available via the neighboring house. Cell phone service is very limited. We do not charge a cleaning fee or extra guest fee.

** This is a working ranch and the studio is connected to a shop area. We will do everything to keep our noise down during your stay.

Location and Setting A
Loved every moment of our stay on this ranch. Chiricahua National Monument is just a mile away. Cleanliness and comfort of the space couldn't have been better. Saw an impressive variety of birds from the front porch. We forgot a phone charger, and the owner provided one without delay. Thanks to the family for sharing their space.

Excellent stay
Janna’s place has all the little touches that add up to a perfect stay. Comfy beds, soft towels, wonderful water pressure for a shower, a fully stocked kitchen, decent wifi coverage, and folders full of recommendations for things to do in the area. The location was perfect for hiking at Chiricahua National Monument. With its close proximity, you can come and go easily. What more can you ask for?

Wonderful place to stay
The property is just 2 miles from the entrance to Chiricahua National Monument. It is about 30 miles from any restaurant, but we knew that and made sure to buy groceries on our way there. There is butter and eggs provided as well as some spices, olive oil and salt and pepper. A small kitchen but well stocked with pots and pans and dishes. It was very clean and cozy. The hosts are very friendly and live on the property. We saw a javelina and some deer. The sunsets and night sky are beautiful.

So fun!
Jan’s property is simple and delightful. A perfect day and beautiful southern Arizona. Only a couple of miles from the national Monument where we hiked. Everything was fantastic. Her house is super organized and isn’t missing a thing. The beds are comfy and even though it dropped down to 7 one night, we were toasty warm inside Definitely recommend this property and we hope to be back!

Peaceful and healing place
Wonderful place to stay! Perfect place to visit Chiricahua National Monument. (7 minutes' drive to the Visitor Center) Very quiet far from the city. A picturesque scenery. A sky full of stars. Cute cows and tons of wild birds. Very friendly owners (Jim and Janna) who taught us many local tips.In the house, it was very clean. The labels were very convenient to know where required items were stored. The fresh eggs in the refrigerator were awesome. Highly recommended!

Quiet, cozy, beautiful ranch stay.
As a couple we stayed in a ranch studio that accommodates six people so we had plenty of room. The windows look out on sycamore trees and the porch has a bird feeder, so beautiful views. The kitchen, sofa area, two double beds, and bathroom were very well organized. It's a working ranch,so quiet, but family nearby if questions. The Chiricahua Monument is a few minutes up the road!

The cabin is impeccably clean and thoughtfully maintained, providing a cozy and comfortable retreat after a day of exploration. Peace and Beauty
Clean, well-assembled apartment with everything we needed and more. Comfortable beds, well-stocked kitchen and bathroom. We briefly met several of the ranch residents during our stay, and they were very welcoming. The location is remote, very quiet, and beautiful. We visited Chiricahua National Monument and it was only a mile away from our VRBO. We'd like to visit again in the future.

Stay near the Monument
Overall, we were very happy with the accommodations and the cottage. It was neat, clean, and in good order. We enjoyed the labeling of all the items and locations, the cozy 1970s vibe, and the location of our park destination. We also enjoyed our conversation with the owners of the working ranch. The mini museum on the property had a lot of history and cool artifacts. We loved it!

Perfect Retreat
We loved our stay on this peaceful ranch. Great location away from everything, yet so close to Chiricahua NM and the Coronado NF. We really enjoyed all the birds around, especially all the owls at night. Jim's collection of relics and rocks were fantastic too. We enjoyed chatting with him. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!

Peace, Solitude, Beauty, Comfort
I can't speak highly enough of this special place. Located on a working ranch, it's right next to Chiricahua National Monument, a great place to hike, bird, and photograph. In the cabin, everything is thoughtfully arranged and labeled for guest comfort. Special touches like fresh farm eggs and hand-sewn textiles give the place a unique and memorable spirit. It's quiet, the night skies are bright with stars, and the front porch is a comfy reading spot. The owners are friendly but not intrusive; we really enjoyed visiting with them. We'll definitely be back.

Perfect for us!
My wife and I hoped to stay at a ranch, not a dude ranch, and this was it! I grew up with cattle and this ranch brought back all of my memories. Even more than this was that those at the ranch made us feel so welcomed, like were we’re old friends. The room was immaculate, it had everything a person could need, was so well done and organized and the bed was wonderful! The location was ideal given the mountains, Ft Bowie, etc. and we will definitely go back! This said, if you’re looking for a dude ranch experience with cookouts, games, riding, childcare, etc. then consider somewhere else given that this is a working ranch not a dude ranch. For us, it was exactly what we wanted and the slow pace and beautiful scenery and simple living made memories for us.

About the host

Hosted by Janna

Host profile image
Janna and her husband have been working on this ranch for over forty years and it has been in the family since 1879. You will be meeting them, and possibly their son and his family who also live on the property.

Why they chose this property

The property has been in the family for several generations. The studio apartment was built originally as a salt house, but it was later decided to be used as a guest house or 'Little House' as we call it. We want to continue that tradition and give travelers an inside look into our lifestyle.

What makes this property unique

The views from the porch are breathtaking. The abundant wildlife and birds give you a unique opportunity to enjoy nature. The dark nights provide an excellent opportunity to view the night skies. The hiking and biking possibilities are endless.
