The house is lovely, historic and well furnished. We spent as very comfortable weekend (12 adults) and enjoyed our time in the house as much as we did in the lovely town of LaCrosse.
The property worked out great for 4 of us that were in town for a business opportunity at the Mayo. Rather than 4 hotel rooms it was a great retreat to socialize and make meals etc. Location was great!
Beautiful house and the history behind its years since built was great! What we could not locate displayed within the house we were able to find it online!Great house!!
This well-preserved mansion is a look into a bygone lifestyle of a prosperous La Crosse family at the end of the 1800s. The floors alone tell a story of opulance.
What a wonderful home for us to bring are adult children together at for a weekend in LaCrosse. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious. The kitchen if excellent for making a family meal. The piano was an added surprise! Thanks Matt! We hope to be back!
This was the perfect place for 5 UW-La Crosse alumni to spend a few days. After not seeing each other for 50 years, we spent a lot of time talking on the porch, in the kitchen, and the living areas. We walked to UW-L and downtown. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen well-stocked.
This property was stunning and we felt very welcomed. We gathered to celebrate my sister in La Crosse and this home was the perfect spot to do so. The home itself has a lot of character and notes about the history throughout. It was large enough to house all nine of us. It was also within walking distance of food and shopping which we appreciated.
We picked this house because it had large rooms to gather in as a family and it didn’t disappoint. The wrap-around porch also offered a nice outdoor space. The house was beautiful renovated to period times and we enjoyed reading the article in the book about it. Checkin Nd out were all clear and easy.
Several of us originally from LaCrosse, gathered for a holiday get together, as my elderly mom lives in town. Plenty of nice space for all of us to gather, with comfortable furniture, and a half bath on first floor. Beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked for cooking our holiday meal. Matthew has been extremely easy to work with and helpful. The only suggestions I would have is there was very little toilet paper in house, which i feel was an oversight due to everything else being available. Additional towels and wash cloths were available, but we needed to hunt for them. lol! Big house with lots of rooms and closets, etc. Would highly recommend this property.
Loved the mansion! We were able to have a little post graduation soirée with our family and a few of my sons friends as their last goodbye after graduation. We played games on the porch in the balmy spring air and fantasized what generations had done the same for decades prior. It was perfect!
As advertised. It was what VRBO said it would be. Clean. All the essentials there. Excellent location. Three block walk to Christmas Mass. All the bedrooms we used were ensuite ( great feature). Spacious dining areas. Historical artifacts. Comfortable. We were living in history. The space would have been more than adequate for our family group of eight. The three coming from New York state were last minute cancels due to weather problems, so five of us really had space! This property could handle a group twice our size. Hardly the host's problem and we liked our stay so much it bothered us not at all. Particularly suited to family groups. Bill Leonard
Staying at this house changed our itinerary … because we spent so much time going from room to room saying, “Can you believe how great this is?” The home lives up to the description and is more impressive than the pictures online. It has been lovingly restored.
The bathrooms have a vintage look but are large and wonderfully appointed. Everyone got a great night's sleep; the bedrooms made us feel as though we were staying at Downton Abbey. We enjoyed watching Olympic highlights on the wall mounted TV in the game room.
We didn't really use the kitchen, but it is modern and super well equipped.
Will absolutely try to stay at this wonderful house again!
The house is beautifully restored! Reading its history in the provided binder made us appreciate the restoration process even more because of the modern amenities, such as a bathroom with each bedroom, and the modern kitchen. The house gives you a feel for life in a previous era because of the way it is decorated with a mix of modern and period pieces. It is roomy yet extremely comfortable and would comfortably house 10 - 12 people. Just visiting out on the wrap around porch is a delightful experience. We definitely look forward to staying here again. Our only suggestions would be to provide kitchen towels and dishcloths rather than using paper towels, plus more hand towels in the bathrooms. Replacing the unappealing, rather dirty scatter rug as you enter the house would make it a more inviting welcome.
