About this property

“Magnolia Cottage” on the River

Perched on a bluff high above the James River this charming rehabbed cottage is an idyllic escape from everyday life. This spot is for travelers who seek a step back in time to a simpler life. You’ll be surrounded by woods, water and a growing flower farm. The set up is unique in that the cottage itself holds living and sleeping space while your own designated bathroom and outdoor hot water shower are a short walk across the yard to a tool shed turned luxury bath and shower under the open sky.
The space
The cottage is equipped with a queen sized Amish-made bed, eating nook, little kitchen corner, comfy vintage recliner, reading material, loads of board games and lots of cozy quilts. It has what you need to fix a cup of tea or coffee, basic dishes and cutlery, but does not include a kitchen. Similar to a hotel room you have the option of eating out or requesting one of our made-from scratch organic breakfasts delivered to your door in the morning for an add-on fee of $15 per person. Other add-ons include a s’mores basket ($25) and the romance package ($50), consisting of bouquets of fresh flowers, a bottle of wine and chocolaty sweet treats. The water is artisanal quality water from our own well.
On the property you will have access to a fire pit with plenty of wood, an axe throwing board, hammock and access to our own fossil rich beach. If you want to explore the area we are a one minute drive (or 15 minute walk) from the Jamestown Scotland ferry that will take you to Williamsburg and surrounding area. Chippokes State Park with its beaches is a mere five minute drive and the Jamestown beach, which is perfect for swimming, is a short ferry ride away.
But if you’re anything like us, you won’t want to leave this charming, one-of-a-kind place.
Guest access
The cottage and designated tool shed turned full bath and outdoor shower are yours during your stay. We want you to feel at home here and you are welcome to explore the property, the woods, the beach and the gardens, with the exception of the gardens immediately surrounding the house. Please respect our privacy in the fenced part of the yard around the main residence. You’re welcome to send text messages with any and all questions before and during your stay or ask us in person when you see us around the property.
Other things to note
Please note: there is no kitchen provided in the rental, but a breakfast of fresh, organic seasonal foods can be ordered by 4PM the night before for an add-on fee of $15 per person.
The designated bathroom is a short walk from the cottage complete with clawfoot tub, stained glass window and Venetian chandelier for your exclusive use while you are our guests. Immediately behind the bath is an outdoor hot water shower.

Great Little Getaway

The cottage was the perfect location for a great little weekend getaway. It was so close to the ferry and we easily took it over to spend the day in Williamsburg. Rose was an amazing host and we had one of her delicious breakfasts the morning we left. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get away for a bit.

Little Paradise

We had an amazing two night stay at this cozy property. Gracious hosts, delicious breakfasts both mornings, and sweeping views of the James River across from Jamestown. We spent our days in Williamsburg and Jamestown, and our nights in this cozy one room cottage. Beautifully decorated. Still glowing from our visit.
