*** Description ***
Superb location & convenience coupled with oasis-like escapism, this home is purposely positioned to be the perfect hideaway for guests seeking to be near downtown, yet need a haven to retreat to on foot. For those wanting to be carefree (and car-free), you can be close enough to hear the hum and excitement of the beachtown, yet stay perched high above it all with gorgeous golden-hour views of the town and hillsides. From this hidden hill, you can walk to town in just 4 minutes (6 to the beach)!
*** The Property ***
The large bedroom includes 2 queen beds that are placed side-by-side to form one of the most comfortable and spacious sleeps for couples, or pulled apart with end tables on all sides to sleep up to 4 in that room. Modern LG air conditioner as well as ceiling fans above each bed, a closet, dresser, and a private bathroom. Connected to this room is a tropical, hot water, outdoor shower sunken deep into the ground.
The 2 smaller guest bedrooms are located at the other end of the home for sound-privacy. Mirror images of themselves, each with a queen bed, the same LG aircon, a ceiling fan, standing-closet, and end tables. Both of these two bedrooms are connected via a Jack-and-Jill bathroom in the middle with sliding barn doors. Inside you will find a pair of sinks and mirrors, a separate toilet room, and the second hot outdoor shower as well. One can be showering, while another is using the facilities, while a third or fourth are getting ready in front of the mirrors. No waiting to get ready for a day or night stroll into the town.
The main space is an open-floor plan kitchen, living room, and work/office space with a desk and hardwired internet and wifi, along with a foyer, shoe bench, and a tall breakfast nook table for 3 facing the large sliding glass windows and the town. We provide many of the amenities you are accustomed to in your own living space, especially the kitchen tools and appliances, because this house is not just a rental or vacation home, this house is our home as well! And we love to to cook in it daily and keep it well-stocked.
The outside area boasts a covered patio with plenty of lighting options, an outdoor table and countertop that fits 6 to 8 people, a gas grill with a side burner, and an outdoor cushioned lounge area that pulls apart for a variety of configurations to convert to a bed, 4 chairs, or a couch.
Behind the house—a few steps up the hill—is a gorgeous saltwater pool and patio that is shared with our second home; a studio cabaña further up the hill. This shared pool, overlooking the downtown, is where the 3rd bathroom and another outdoor shower are located. All 3 toilets include modern bidet attachments.
This layout was designed to use the land and views wisely, to be ergonomic and user-friendly, and for people to flow through the spaces seamlessly. Floor-plan photos are included!
*** Guest Access ***
The house-level includes the home with its three bedrooms, as well as a large covered outdoor patio that doubles as an outdoor dining, kitchen, and lounge space.
Behind the home is the large, salt-water pool and patio. This is pool is shared with our second home; a studio cabaña further up the hill. There is an outdoor pool shower for rinsing off as well as a bathroom.
At the very top of this hillside (15 meters further up) is a view of the ocean, the SJDS bay, stunning sunsets, and a fresh-water plunge-tub where up to 6-7 people can watch the sunset in a very unique way.
Both the pool, the plunge-tub, and the entrance steps are shared and available for guests in both homes to use.
Security: The house includes a smart lock for easy and safe access, security safes inside the home for your belongings, and outdoor security cameras at the entrance to the property and the home, the shared-pool area, and the mechanical appliances behind the home (AC units, gas tanks, hot water heater).
*** Interaction ***
We have a second home on the property—a cozy, studio cabaña that sleeps 2-3 people—that shares the entrance and pool with this home. During your stay there may be other guests staying up there. Sometimes we live in that home as well. Come say hi!
We are very gregarious and sociable, love hosting and meeting our guests, and even introducing them to the town if they want! We can interact with you as much or as little as you like. While we are on site, we can often help you with anything at a moment's notice.
Manuel (the groundskeeper) lives next door and is often available to address any concerns or problems quickly. He's fantastic, even helped build both of our homes, and is knowledgeable of all things SJDS and beyond. He will be cleaning the pool daily as well as tending to the plants and gardens around the property. He may be able to help you run some errands or pick something up. Oh, and he is learning English!
And always, we are accessible via chat. We enjoy answering any and all questions while guests are staying in our home. Instead of losing precious vacation-time trying to find something in our home, figure out how something works, or even questions about the town, just send us a quick message instead.
*** Other Details ***
Three details we want you to be aware of for our home.
CLIMBING: Our home is located 38 meters above sea level. It is a brief but steeply paved hill to be climbed. There is an empty lot for public parking up the hill, but some taxi drivers are reluctant to drive up it (but that's primarily because their cars aren't 4x4s). Most visitors can walk up to our home in about 2 minutes; however, this house would be difficult for those who have asthma, breathing difficulties, knee problems, injuries, or people with walking difficulties.
PARKING: On-site, private parking is not available. However, some of our guests have parked in that empty lot approximately 50 meters away, as well as public street parking at the base of our hill.
SHARED POOL/PLUNGE-TUB/ENTRANCE: We have a second, smaller home on our property that we also rent out and occasionally live in, so both homes share and have access to the pool, plunge-tub, and the entrance stairway. As hosts, we like to encourage a friendly and shared experience, so hopefully this is viewed as a social perk and not a deterrent.
