Well equipped and well loved home, perfect for a group like ours. The lake is gorgeous. We’d also recommend renting the boat for fun trips on the lake!
As described, a great place to stay on a beautiful lake, wildlife, memories. All the privacy you need, with exception of the occasional fisherperson..;) Bedding was adequate. All the essentials. Just a great place!
We had the best time at this house! The lake is beautiful. The weather was very hot while we were there and we spent almost all day in the water. It was great to have access to all of the canoes, paddle board and floats. The kitchen is very well stocked with all cooking necessities. Piper was super communicative and helpful with all questions that I had. I can't recommend this place enough!
My sister is getting married in October and we are all past the need to go clubbing. A relaxing weekend away in a beautiful location, good food and drinks and lots of fun with the girls was exactly what we needed! The Bear's Den delivered! Waking up the the water everyday was so peaceful! The water allows for a number of water activities without the crowds of the big lakes. We had a wonderful time!
Highly recommended! This property was beautiful and priced low for the great value.
- Great communication with owners.
- Clean home.
- Location hidden away but close enough to stores.
- Lots of unexpected amenities in the home and property made for an extra fun trip.
- The kitchen was fully stocked with ingredients and tools. We waited to go food shopping until we were there and saw what was available and we are glad we did.
- The beds were all very comfortable and the house was so clean, better than expected.
- The lake was clear and clean as well and our teenage girls and moms had the time off our lives swimming, canoeing, kayaking.
- The Wi-Fi was actually pretty good! and all of our phones had service.
- Our young teens - get this - did not use phones. They even started to make up stories to tell while lounging out on the water.
- We went during a historical heat wave so the house was very hot, but there was a huge industrial fan available that made all the difference. If the weather is going to be 80° or more, I strongly recommend bringing a bunch of fans for the various rooms.
Overall, as I hope you can tell from this review, we loved it - Thank you, Piper!

mice infestation
We stayed at the property for 1 week. The house had a large mouse and rodent infestation problem. There were countless mice infesting the home. There were mouse droppings all over the kitchen counters every morning. Also, the furniture was very old and filthy and needs replacing. Additionally, the washing machine, which was listed in the amenities, was non operational. Although the lake and surroundings are very nice, the inside of the home needs extermination and updating.

A relaxing, recharging week.
We had a great week at The Bears Den. If you are looking for lots of excitement, this might not be the place for you, but if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing week, you can't beat it. Lots of wildlife, with almost daily shows by the loons (including baby), ducks, and heron. We didn't do much swimming because we didn't get any hot weather, but plenty of kayaking. The front deck is a very relaxing spot to soak in the beauty of the lake, and plenty of room inside for various activities, including our nightly game of cards. We wandered off the reservation a few times, with trips to Tubby's in Wayne for lobster rolls and ice cream, and a lunch in Readfield at the Full Court Deli, which was delicious. The Tubby's lobster rolls are expensive, but big! Bring a book, board games, movies (very limited TV reception, which was a blessing), and plan on unwinding and relaxing.

Second to Heaven
This was our first trip to Maine and we loved this place! From the moment we got there, we were mesmerized by the view! After a 12 hour trip (total), we took immediate advantage of the warm lake. The house was just as it looked in the pictures and we were welcomed with fire starters for the fire pit. Piper, the owner, also took the time from her own vacation to reach out to us and let us know she was available for any questions we had! We spent many nights outside by the fire and even got to enjoy a firework display by the neighbors. We especially loved the kayaks and the party float! We did get to spend a day at Old Orchard Beach and even ate dinner at a darling place called Fast Eddie's Diner! The Hannaford Grocery Store had everything we needed. The locals were very nice and helpful and I can see why this is a town everyone loves. We only had two regrets; one was that we didn't see a moose and the other was we didn't have more time! We took a lot of great pictures and already have friends asking us about this beautiful spot. We would highly recommend and would love to go again!

My father and I are co owners of this welcoming, warm, and spacious property. Built in 1974, my dad and his father purchased the land and built the cabin themselves from the ground up. Through the years, families, friends, and pets have enjoyed this memorable summer vacation home. We care deeply for the cabin and hope our love of Wayne, Maine and Wilson Pond can be extended to you.
