About this property

Rustic Barnstay on 66 acres

The barn features a large eat-in kitchen, an open floor plan with a semi-private master, a wood/coal stove, washer and dryer, ductless mini split HVAC, a full bathroom, endless hot water, a Bluetooth vent fan, and a shuffleboard table. New wainscoting and paint! There is a raised bank barn ramp area out front where you can enjoy your coffee and favorite adult beverage during golden hour. It is near the pond (zipline splashdown), hot tub, and rock climbing wall, as well as, our flock of chickens.
The space
The Barnstay experience is in a central location on part of the 66-acre property. The barn measures about 30 by 35 feet or about 1000 sqft of living area. It includes a queen bed, a rustic twin xl over a full bunk bed, a table with 4 chairs, and a large living room with 4 couches. Ideal for up to 6 people. You may pay for guests beyond 6 but you must put some bedding on the couches. Note limited privacy (sound) between the master bedroom, bunks, and the main area. The wall is built to encourage airflow from the HVAC in the master. It has open spaces at top and bottom but no direct lines of sight.

Amenities included: electricity, smart tv with wifi, bedding with pillows, lighting, a ceiling fan, many games including a shuffleboard table, a fully stocked kitchen, a lighted private campfire area, and a rustic wooden wire spool standing bar down below the barn. The basement of the barn is our private storage (please stay out). You may also have RV guests in the front yard area of the barn from time to time.

Wood and coal are available during the winter months. We would like you to use the stove to help reduce heating costs!

Enjoy incredible panoramic views on the property of the Blue Mountain and Swatara Creek Park, beautiful sunsets, starry nights, and the warmth of a crackling fire from your campfire!

The hot tub is located next to the owner's home. Guests are welcome to use this at any time.

We are within walking distance of Swatara State Park and close to the Appalachian Trail. Short drive to the local winery, bowling alley, pub/diner & movie theater. Single-track trails and Sweet Arrow Lake are nearby. Rent our bikes or kayaks! Grocery stores and gas are also nearby.

Hershey Park and Knobel's Grove are both approx a 30 min drive from our location.

Guest access
Lots of parking space on the gravel for your vehicles. Plenty of space to tie down your airplane right in the front yard if you plan on flying in!

If you’re bringing your furry friends there’s a large 1.5-acre fenced dog park with a puppy playtime stock tank you may use. Just ask and we can show you.

The 66-acre property has been licensed as an airport (PS20) since the 1980s. It is currently an active, private airport. We don't sell fuel or offer services beyond camping so we primarily have only air traffic with few to no landings each year. In other words, it is very quiet here except during the occasional low pass. We are very eager for pilots to fly in and camp out! The beautiful sunsets and stargazing night skies are a real treat for anyone who comes to visit. Lots of deer, birds, and other wildlife can be seen out and about. Bring your telescope and binoculars to view all the property has to offer! Note that we are always working to improve our slice of heaven, thus we do have tools, vehicles, and equipment stored around the farm that if not used now will be one day. We appreciate your understanding that some areas are used for our personal / farm storage.
Other things to note
You may fly in if you like. Ask for any details for you are flight planning.

Note: Monthly rental discounts are available. Work-stay exchange programs are available. We are always looking for good reliable part-time help on the farm! Please ask!

Cute barn

We had a great one night stay on our road trip. Love that you can bring dogs here. Bed was comfortable and wood stove is lovely. Wish the hot tub was hotter but that's all I would have changed.

About the host

Host profile image
Hi! I'm Bill a super dandy dad, handyman, hobby farmer, host with the most, music lover, concert goer, animal lover, frequent dad joker, et all! LOL Also, just happen to be an aerospace engineer, commercial multi-engine instrument-rated pilot ("learning to fly but ain't got wings"-TP), master of business administration, sawyer, home remodeler, treehouse builder, retired water well driller / pump installer / water treatment expert. What is left!? I'm sure I left something out but why bore you (driller's dad joke)! If you're not bored yet feel free to ask for a tour as well as any other questions!

Why they chose this property

Beautiful farmland at the foot of the Appalachian mountains, near Swatara (Fort Indiantown) Gap - an interesting geologic feature further accentuated by Swatara Creek. We love being part of nature here and that we can ensure our slice of heaven goes undeveloped. We're close to I81 (about 3 miles) but far enough that you can barely hear it except on the clearest nights with the wind just right. Also close to Hershey Park, Knobels Grove Park, Wineries, Swatara State Park, the AT, Lebonan Reservoir, Rausch Creek and Reading Off Road parks, tons of coal mining history, and so much more. Come enjoy it with us!

What makes this property unique

Dad bought the farm in or about 1985 with funds from the sale of another mountaintop property that the government bought for the AT corridor. I've been mowing grass here ever since! We feature a 2,500-foot grass airstrip (PS20 identifier) right here so if you can fly in please do! We're a hobby farm currently with chickens, ducks, working dogs, growing vegetables, fruits, flowers, and pumpkins. We have plans to add more livestock, most likely Highland cows and or goats very soon!
