Awesome
I so already miss sitting out on the upper deck, watching the sunset, whales jumping in the distance, what a great place to “Get away from IT ALL”. The house was awesome, as advertised if not better, and Candy was a wealth of knowledge and good advice so make sure you reach out to her, she could not be more personable. It’s not a 5 star resort town by any means, and that is exactly why we got out of Provo as quickly as possible and headed directly to Pirates Hideaway, where this Pirate hid away from the world…..THANK YOU CANDY, great stuff, 5 star reviews all day long!!!!!

Pirate hideaway
We were looking for adventure, deserted beaches, and comfortable accommodations. We were not disappointed. Candy was such a good host. She kept in touch and made sure we had everything we needed. The island residents were so friendly and helpful. It was super easy to get around the island. We brought a few groceries in our luggage and made most of our own meals. We did enjoy an excellent dinner at nearby Oceanaire bistro. We highly recommend checking out the dive shop for boating excursions, kayak renting, etc. Maufy is the one to see about bike or RTV rentals. We especially enjoyed snorkeling, locating the elusive flamingoes, and enjoying the beauty of Salt Cay.

Pirates Hideaway Pool
Candy allowed our family to use the pool at Pirates Hideaway while we were staying at The Brown House. The kids really loved it! There is a small shallow area which is great for younger children and then a larger free-form area for swimming. The area is beautifully landscaped. The kids had a great time playing here each morning while we were scuba diving.

Pirates Hideaway
It was our 25th Anniversary and we sought a quiet, beautiful yet entertaining location. Salt Cay is paradise. North Beach is outrageous and deserted. The people of Salt Cay are so very friendly and accommodating. Candy at Pirates Hideaway communicated by email and phone, responding quickly to questions and requestes. She was exceptionally friendly, helpful, accommodating and flexible. She offered us great deals. We paid for a room and she gave us Blackbeards Quarters. A 4 bedroom house with kitchen. This generosity made all the difference in our comfort. It is one of two locations of the island that has a pool and we loved swimming in refreshing pool after a day at the beach. At 60yrs we needed a golf cart to get around, but many use bikes. The food is good at all 3 restaurants. We really liked Porters for atmosphere and food. We spent everyday at North Beach and snorkeled right off beach. Go for it you'll love Salt Cay.

WOW - this is like home!
My friend and I just got back after staying 5 nights at this beautiful 'Pirates Hideaway'. It is beautiful. Each room is very well decorated and comfortable. Candy helps you find anything that you want on the island and she is a great historian about Salt Cay. Everything was so clean and maintained. So relaxing to cook in the lovely kitchen or read a book under the ceiling fan. It was very, very quiet at night - maybe the donkeys and cows were just walking around but no noises. The water activities are beautiful - miles of white sand beaches with no one to be seen. I would highly recommend this property and would definitely go back and stay much longer next time!

Our 4 night stay in Blackbeard's delighted us and exceeded our expectations. We are a couple in our 60s with a preference for independent & characterful accommodation, beautiful & quiet locations, walking, wildlife and friendly locals. On all counts we rate Salt Cay and Pirates' Hideaway A*. Candy is a true welcomer, problem sorter and information source. We walked right round the coast, swam frequently, snorkelled, watched and swam with the Hump back Whales, had a great meal at Debbie's and wonderful bread from Miss Netty and Ms Pattie, help and a ride with the local policeman and various friendly encounters with local and 'in-comer' residents. We will recommend Pirates' Hideaway enthusiastically and unreservedly. One practical point for those who need to arrive and depart as planned - fly to and fro with Caicos Express !

Wonderful!
Our stay at the Pirates Hide Away was even better then we hoped. The house was very roomy, clean, and had everything we needed. The large closed in porch at the back of the house was a great place to have our meals and the ocean breezes just added to the relaxed environment of Salt Cay. Not only was the beach, and “town” a short walk from our house, we had great old beach bikes which were wonderful for seeing the whole island. Candy, the proprietor, made sure we were well taken care of. She picked us up and dropped us off at the Airport and made sure we lacked for nothing during our stay. The grounds were lovely complete with a terrific pool area. We can’t wait to return!

Relaxing vacation on a charming island
I spent a week at the "Pirate's Hidaway". Our group of seven rented "Blackbeard's Quarters" and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The listing description and photos are accurate and thorough. The only thing ambiguous is the location - the homes are located in the "Southwest district" of the island, maybe 100 yards from the sea. It's a convenient location with easy access to the beaches, three restaurants, dive shop and small stores. Our preferred mode of transport was by bicycle. The property was clean and well maintained. Our hostess Candy was especially attentive and helpful. She had our fridge stocked prior to our arrival, gave us a tour of the island and pointed out all the major destinations, and was a fountain of information on the island sites and history. She is a knowledgeable and attentive host who will ensure you have anything you need for a pleasant stay. There are no bad beaches on Salt Cay, but a trip to the north west point is well worthwhile. It's the beach all others aspire to be - pristine white sand, crystal clear turquoise water, and not anther soul in sight. Debbie's restaurant has good specials on Sunday and Wednesday (Ribs and conch respectively), Porter's has good pizza on Fridays, and make sure to visit Ms. Pat's restaurant too before you leave. Try both Ms. Pat's and Debbie's key lime pie! The dive shop is small but has an attentive staff who'll make sure you have an enjoyably diving and/or whale watching experience. Going whale watching with marine biologists conducting research on the whales was a gratifying and informative experience. The dive sites have impressive reef formations and are generally most beautiful when looked at up close - their beauty is in the coral variety more so than other inhabiting wildlife. Most of the dive sites are over reef walls. The shallow water offered the best experience, so don't spend all your dive at 100' on the wall and miss the activity on the shelf at 40'! The best experience of the trip was diving off the south coast and hearing the hump back whales sing. They had to be within a mile of us. We stopped exploring the dive site, leveled off and just listened to them for 15 minutes. It was a touching experience. Returning to the surface, Salt Cay is a lazy little island with plenty of charm. It's safe (we never locked our doors and wandered to each corner of the island), friendly and relaxed in atmosphere. The history of the island is palpable and adds to the experience.

A Step into paradise
We absolutely loved the Pirates Hideaway. It was everything that was stated and more. The House in the back with four bedrooms and two baths was perfect for the three couples and our single friend. We cooked most of our meals and ate out in the Laina where the trade winds provided a most comfortable dining experience. Bikes were provided, and Candy, the owner, was only too helpful. She picked us up at the airport and delivered us to our quarters. We were a short 15 minute walk from the little village and loved every moment we were there. In fact, we sort of adopted a pregnant donkey and her little Jinny while we were there. That adds to the charm of this lovely island. If you want to get away from it all, stay here.

Pirates Hideway was a good choice for us
We stayed at the Pirates Hideway in Mid February 2013 for 4 days/nights.  It was a good choice given it's location,  host, room, and POOL.  If we went back, we'd stay there.  We're 2 adults and 1 toddler.  It's a roomy, clean, quiet, enjoyable place to stay.  If you have kids, it's REALLY handy to have a pool there.  As pretty as the beaches are to look at, they're not really user friendly for kids this time of year (rough water, steep beaches [exception South Creek at high tide]).  Candy the owner/hostess has been on the island a while and knows it inside and out - she's an exceptional resource and gregarious spirit.

Enchanting holiday in Salt Cay
Over the Christmas holiday we had a wonderful, enchanting, and unexpected time in Salt Cay. We were greeted at the airport by Candy and her mother and whisked to the Pirate's Hideaway in minutes. We chose Salt Cay without any word of mouth recommendations, it was really a fluke that we decided to move our holiday from Provo to either Salt Cay or Grand Turk. We made the best decision and have been telling everyone who will listen what a wonderful and charismatic place it is. Salt Cay has weathered a lot since the Salt Trade left and after the hurricanes, but it is resiliant. Salt Cay is very small and very walkable. We loved walking everywhere (though our three kids would have prefered to take the golf carts everywhere.) After one week, we met so many friendly local people and felt like we had started to get to know the community. Amazing really! If you go, definitely plan a day trip to Grand Turk on the Ferry and hire a taxi to take you around the island - with a stop to get groceries at a grocery store there. For that was our only complaint about Salt Cay - the wonderful little shops did not have a wide selection of fresh produce. We actually rented Blackbeards, which is on the rear of the Pirate's Hideaway property. It was a wonderful place to call home for the week and with four bedrooms it was more than spacious enough for our group of 4 adults and 3 children. The children loved the bunk beds! We loved having the kitchen and loved that Candy went above and beyond and set a Christmas tree for us, as well as, organized a birthday cake for my father-in-law (the trip was really to celebrate his birthday). One of the things that we loved about Salt Cay was that every beach was different and there was so much rugged beauty. We loved shelling and splashing about in the warm water. We loved walking without having to worry about traffic. We liked that there were not a bunch of touristy shops hawking their wares on every corner. One thing that shocked many people that we ran into was that we did not take a snorkling or scuba tour. Our children were just not up to it as their swimming is not the best, but they had a ball and my 5 year old is asking when we can return. Daily. Take the time to meander, see where the road ends. Enjoy nature. Most of all relax. Pirate's Hideaway was perfect for us because it was a private house to come home to, the neighbors were very friendly, the pool was phenomenal (and much used). All in all a fab trip!

I have lived in Pirates Hideaway, oceanfront, the island of Salt Cay for over 20 years and take a great interest in the community and local history. My mother in the picture above also owns a guesthouse in the garden of England in Kent which she has been running since I was a child so mixing with guests and speaking languages is second nature..I love to travel and have been lucky enough to live in many countries especially remote areas like on the Amazon River and rain forests of Costa Rica.,

Why they chose this property

Living in this Salt Cay oceanfront charming Pirates Hideaway is very rewarding. A remote friendly island full of adventure ,diving, whalewatching.

What makes this property unique

Pirates Hideaway on Salt Cay is peaceful and very comfortable and each morning If I feel like it I can take a refreshing dip in one of the many sandy beaches ...I love the fact that my showers have hot water. Renting golfcarts means I have a choice of transportation if I want to whip around the corner to the shop. Having Wi fi is my way of keepingin touch with the world ...otherwise each day blends into the next with excellent snorkelling and diving....
