Outdoor pavilion with barbecue pit and fire place. All new facilities. Air-conditioning in living and kitchen area. Ceiling fans in bedrooms with heaters and air-conditioning.. Wonderful view overlooking crystal clear spring-fed creek and mountain views. Swimming and fishing in Bullhead Creek which runs through the ranch. No TV, WiFi or cell phone service. We really enjoyed our stay.

The barn quarters were clean and comfortable, the only thing is that if you need to go to the bathroom you will have to walk out of your room and walk to it because it’s a separate room. Overall very satisfied.

Not what was expected

This listing for the horse barn was not properly cleaned or advertised. The window units in the bedrooms could not keep up with the summer temperatures and left the rooms hot. They maybe old, bit they also were not turned on t the time of check in. The place was filthy.

Great place to get away and connect

Have to admit we were hesitant about not having any immediate access to the outside world (definitely no cell service/WiFi in the quarters) but we all LOVED the chance to unplug. Not having any outside world distractions meant lots of time playing games, swimming, reading and talking. If you’re looking for a place to rest and reconnect, this is it.

Definitely want to come back!

This is a marvelous place to stay. The accommodations are unusual (a converted horse barn—love it!) but very high quality. It’s important to know that there’s not much around this place, so if you’re looking for shopping or multiple choices for eating out, this isn’t for you. But for us, it was perfect—away from road noise, people noise, dogs barking, music blaring, phones ringing, social media (the listing isn’t lying: there is NO phone service out there)… and you can see the stars at night!! Having access to the creek and the trail on the property (the “psycho path”) was an added benefit. We will be back!

This property was exactly what we needed! If you are looking to unplug from the norm of society and everyday life, this is the perfect place. You have the sounds and views of nature and crystal clear water. Sonja and Ed were amazing hosts and the barn quarters were comfy. We are already planning to visit again.

Relaxing

Great place to stay to get away from it all and just enjoy wildlife and nature. Took some hikes, swam in different parts of the creek, saw an abundance of wildlife, and smoked meat it was a great time.

Get away from it ALL

Husband & I stayed on the property known as "Ambush Hill", for our # 22. It was everything we needed to unplug from it all & did not disappoint. Booked with Sonja Rose & we were the only ones on the property. Absolutely - God's country. Serene, majestic, dark skies @ night, wildlife, and crystal clear water which is very frigid in October. The cabins were clean & very well stocked not lacking anything you may need for your stay. Our only regret was it was not long enough. We will be back soon. If you need a system reboot away from the city, this is the place. Beautiful hill country views, smells and sounds. Property is amazing and Sonja is an awesome host. Will be back soon!

Secluded Oasis

The private spring is hard to beat, and the night's sky was breathtaking. Bring something to help deter bugs at night. It's the only downside due to the proximity to the water.

A Little Slice of Heaven

Impressive in every way

Every year in July, I meet up with 2 buddies for a fishing weekend. This year we stayed at Sonja's ranch. The setting is really beyond words. Beautiful open space in the heart of Texas with a fantastic creek and swimming hole. The fish were plentiful and we lost count of how many we caught. The accommodation were perfect and exactly as described. Everything at the ranch is executed to a high standard and we were 100% pleased with our accommodation and the facilities. If you want to see texas is it once was, make the trip to Ambush Hill Ranch. It is well worth the effort. We will be back.

Solitary Oasis

Piece of paradise in the hill country. Lodging is very comfortable. Kitchen has everything a cook needs. Bathroom/shower was spacious and clean, great after a long day on the creek. Tons of towels, pillows & blankets. The covered patio facing the hills was solitude at its finest - all you see is greenery and all you hear are the birds. A two minute drive to the creek where you can spend the whole day swimming and lounging, reading one of Ms. Klein’s books. Our favorite part was the creek and crystal clear waters. We hope to be back! Thanks Sonja!

Hill Country at it’s finest!

We were a group of three guys looking for a place to stay in between our kayak fishing jaunts on the Nueces River. The ranch is easy to get to yet still in a place where you feel you are in deep, untouched, Texas Hill Country. The property is beautiful and the barn is a perfect place to engage in time spent with friends and family. Highly recommend!
