Surpassed expectations!

As a culinary team Capitan, I wanted a place where I could bring the team to get away from the hustle - where we could bond, rest and enjoy our time together. This place surpassed my expectations! It was so beautiful inside; the beds were heavenly, huge, beautiful yard, fresh, clean space with good energy. Thank you for a great stay!

Truly a retreat

Wonderful ambiance with great vibes. Property manager and owner extremely responsive to questions. The central area has tons of light and is a lovely gathering place for groups. Plenty of table space and the bedrooms are all well equipped and comfortable. There has been a scourge of earwigs across the island, and here too - but again the owner and property manager did everything they could to help.

5 stars for our stay at the rustic retreat

What to say about the rustic retreat? First, the current pictures don’t do it any justice. The ceilings are 20ft high, the living space is big, the kitchen beautiful and *fully* equipped. All bedrooms are a very good size, multiple towels provided per room. Every detail in this space is amazing; from the intricate staircase leading to the loft area, to the dining table pieces, high end washer/dryer. We just loved everything. Sarah has thought of everything; I would think “I wonder if they have….” And I would check in the cupboards or closets and there the item would be. Sarah is a very responsive host, replying within an hour or less. The property manager is also lovely and very welcoming. We enjoyed the rural aspect of the home, how quiet our stay was, but it is also just a very short walk to Preserves, Lobster Suppers etc. Not to mention a short, beautiful drive to North Rustico for all it has to offer. Truly a 5 star home - we will be back! We walked

Why they chose this property

The Rustic Retreat is located in Central PEI in the heart of picturesque and historical New Glasgow, which is a great tourist destination and Home of the world famous New Glasgow Lobster Suppers, The Mill Restaurant, The PEI Preserve Company , The Toy Factory, plus the renowned Glasgow Hill Golf Course. All are just a stone-throw away from the house.

What makes this property unique

The house sits on the site of the original forge for all of central Prince Edward Island. The "Forge on Buck Hill" (the barn on the property) is over 100 years old and is remembered fondly by many of the elder residents of New Glasgow as the social and business gathering site for the community. The forge supplied most of the metal products required by the butter factory (PEI Preserve Company) as well as the carriage shop (The Toy Factory). It was also renowned Island wide for the sleighs that were built on the second floor. One of the more charming parts of the property is the weekly delivery of eggs and produce by a local farmer. The story goes like: "Eldon arrives on Saturdays, sells us fresh produce and eggs from his farm, and has regaled us with stories about the property, as he was good friends with the Bucks". There is a photograph of the forge owner hanging in one of the wings of the QEH (Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown).
