Three Bedrooms (1K and 2Q) with two fold out queen couches and two queen air mattresses to sleep 14. Sit on the porch and enjoy the 180 degree view or the surrounding hills and bluffs.

We had a great stay! The house was very clean, comfy, and well-equipped. The only downside was being so far removed from everything, but then again, we also enjoyed the peace and solitude and found our way around pretty easily.

Gem in the country

We enjoyed our stay here! It was nice and quiet with a big backyard, bird’s singing, and mature trees. The house was super clean and the kitchen very well stocked. We would 100% recommend this place!

Beautiful raised ranch

This property was excellent for our stay. Steve was always prompt to respond when I had questions. Had dvds, cds, vhs tapes and more nostalgia. The beds were very comfortable (and I’m super picky) and the towels were soft. A morning dove made her nest in the ballasts right next to the back door. And when it rained, the tin roof over the porch sounded amazing! My only complaint was that we couldn’t stay longer.

Relaxing rural home

We enjoyed our stay here. We need a location that could comfortably sleep 8 people while also allowing us to move about and entertain. This property met our needs and we'd definitely consider staying here again.

Very convenient location

Loved this property. Steve was a great host. We accidentally left something there and contacted Steve. He was going to be in the St. Louis area the following day and went out of his way to drop the item off to us. The property was immaculate and had everything we needed for the 5 nights we were there. Will definitely stay there again when we are in the area.

Family summer getaway

We came for a family summer getaway with our children ranging 12 to 6 months and had a fantastic time. The house was roomy and well equipped and the owner was very responsive to our concerns. It has a large deck overlooking fields and hills, and a very large yard(with a firepit; campfire smores etc.) with plenty of room for the kids to run and play. A added perk(which we didn't notice on the listing) was the basement room with a couch and foozeball table which was a great place for the kids to play. There is a additional cabin on the property which was empty most of our stay. We had a amazing, fun and relaxing family vacation! Charming, very comfortable house in quiet scenic location. Definitely recommended.

Great for our group

The layout was great for four adult couples. Found all the kitchen pots and pans and gadgets needed. Plenty of parking. We all love to play board games so the big square kitchen table was a dream. Really helped with interaction vs a rectangular table. Lol.

Beautifully remodeled, clean house

Everything was lovely. Snacks provided on the kitchen table in a basket. Plenty of towels, soap, shampoo, etc. A beautiful location. Loved the back porch in the morning, drinking coffee.

Hidden Gem!

This property really is a hidden gem on the Wine Trail. We rented it for a group of 6, and it did not disappoint. The house itself was clean and comfy, but the backyard view really wowed us. Great location and clear communication with the owner. We hope to return again!

Loved it!

We always trying to explore our country and visited quite a few places over the last few years. Even that covid nonsense didn't stop us and we went to beautiful Montana last year. Normally we would plan two trips a year. 4th July week and New Years week. So, as soon as we got our plans straightened we started looking... And let me tell you this year is like no other. Prices are sky high and everything is booked. Literally, if you didn't book something like 6 months in advance you are screwed. Being Chicago locals we were preparing ourselves to spend our 4th July weekend in our backyard. As a last chance I was scrolling through different places around us in the 6-7 hours of driving radius and came across Shawnee area. I was kind of embarrassed understanding that we got such a beautiful place right here in Illinois and never visited. We started looking for a place to stay and as soon as we came across this house we just fell in love immediately. Pictures were great, description fitted our needs perfectly. But when we arrived this place just completely exceeded our expectations. It was quiet, nice and clean. Everything you need for your stay is there with kitchen well equipped, nice big deck, fire pit in the backyard and plenty of firewood. Our kids had a blast exploring the surroundings. The location of the house itself is golden. You, basically, are in the middle of the Shawnee. All the gems of the area are within 1hour 15min of driving the most. It was a little over one hour of driving to Garden of the Gods to the East and 45 min of driving to the Inspirational point to the West. And everything else like Little Grand Canyon, Giant City, Natural Bridge, Tunnel hill and so much more in between. Just book this house and you won't be disappointed. Owner is responsive and instructions are clear and easy. I highly recommend this place and definitely will plan another stay here.

Great Location

The house was spacious and plenty of room for three couples. Mornings on the deck or amazing as the sun came up and then offer a day of fun at the area lakes and wineries. Nothing more than 25 minutes away

Wine Trail perfection

This property is located right on the Southern Illinois Wine Trail. After listening to a few people at one of the wineries, it may not be obvious that the winery trail is open all year. My wife and I have been renting from Steve's rentals for 5 years and have never had a problem. We have rented with our litter of 5; and we have spent some great times alone. All thumbs up with Steve's properties. Thanks!

Fishing Trip with Dad, Brother and friend

This place was perfect for our group of 4 and everyone had their own space. It was very comfortable and Steve the owner was very helpful and description of everything was spot on. I would definitely rent the tool shed corner again.

About the host

I grew up in Southern Illinois, and could not wait to 'Get Out,' 'Escape,' and go to the big city. I went to school in Chicago at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and left Southern Illinois far behind. I thought this was great.

I had a very successful career in the online advertising, marketing, and market research world catering to big pharma. In a normal year I would fly 125,000 miles and see many places, countries and sites.

As I grew older and my 'success' continued I felt more and more that something was missing. I began to yearn for the hills of Southern Illinois, the slower pace of life, and the people I left behind more and more.

I 2013, I came home for a few weeks to help my mother move my father into a nursing home. After this was completed I flew to Milan for business, and on my way back I received a call that my mother had had a stroke. This was a life changing event for me, and I never really went home.

My father spent the year getting worse, and my Mother spent the year getting better. When my father died in December of 2013, I decided to 'officially' move to Southern Illinois in order to spend more time with my mother and be closer with family. I also made the decision to leave the company I worked for and do something simpler, and local to Southern Illinois.

June 1st, 2014 I started my company with the goal to create vacation rental homes in Southern Illinois and help the area grow tourism. Southern Illinois is a beautiful and special place, and I would like to share it with as many people as possible.

Why they chose this property

This property was an old Bed and Breakfast, and the view was spectacular. The property was foreclosed on and a friend that I went to high school with had purchased it and remodeled the main house. The property also has a guesthouse that I am in the process of refurbishing.

Once the guesthouse is refurbished the property will sleep a maximum of 16 people, or can be rented to separate parties in the main house and guesthouse.

The proximity toe wineries, and area attractions is also great for this property.
