About this property

Log home retreat w spectacular mountain views, ideal for relaxation & adventure!

This beautiful mountain home is located in a forested community offering a relaxed and rustic mountain experience with abundant wildlife, away from the crowds.

Nearby attractions include Black Canyon National Park, Curecanti National Recreation Area and Blue Mesa Reservoir (where pontoon and fishing boat rentals are available), Morrow Point Reservoir, Lake City and the Alpine Loop, Owl Creek Pass and Silverjack Reservoir, Big Blue Campground and the Alpine Trail, and much more in Gunnison, Crested Butte, Ouray, and Montrose.

On the main floor, enjoy the open floor plan featuring a gorgeous rock fireplace and large sitting area with smart TV, surrounded by wall to wall windows framing spectacular mountain/valley views. The spacious kitchen has room for multiple cooks, with a cozy wood burning stove. A primary bedroom is located on both floors, with king sized beds and separate baths. A bonus, full sized bed is located in a 1st floor nonconforming bedroom and a pull-out sofa is located in both the great room and the upstairs sitting room. The wrap-a-around deck is ideal for enjoying panoramic views after hiking, biking, fishing, or board games. Take advantage of the opportunity to rent side-by-sides (for anywhere from a half day to 30 days) or electric bikes at nearby Arrowhead Mountain Adventures and visit nearby Arrowhead Lodge for dining and drinks, with live music on weekends in the beer garden during warmer months.

In winter, Arrowhead becomes a magical place, with internal roads closing to wheeled vehicles from approximately December 1st until mid-April; exact dates are determined by the area patrol service and are dependent upon snowfall accumulation. Guests park in the winter parking lot and travel throughout the community via snowmobile (which can be rented for anywhere from 2 hours to 30 days by visiting www.alpineplateau.com). This is also a great time to try out the snowshoes provided at the cabin.

Highway 50 is currently under construction. For the latest, please consult the online schedule for information on traffic patterns and any detours (www.us50info.com).

A Weekend to Remember
What a memorable stay! Not only were the house and surroundings stunning, but we also stayed here the weekend I proposed to my fiancée. And we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay at afterwards: the main room was welcoming with incredible views of the valley below, there were plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms (emphasis on the shower and tub setup upstairs), and the whole spot had a rustic yet homey feel throughout. This was a really special weekend made even better by this beautiful house!

A wonderful vacation
It was one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. The sunsets were spectacular and the location was ideal for fishing, hiking, or anything you want to do outside! It was a beautiful home and the host, Heather, was so attentive and helpful. We are grateful for her opening her home to us! We highly recommend this home and would love to be back soon.

Family getaway
We were looking to adventure near Ouray but we’re not able to find a beautiful location that fit our budget. This cabin was amazing. Spectacular views and just a beautiful cabin all around! Quiet, away from everyone and everything we loved the seclusion. Private lakes near by were nice. Security patrol was nice to see too. Lots of wild life and super nice owners! Definitely worth the drive if you want to getaway from it all and relax! Will definitely be sharing with our friends and family!

Amazing home with gorgeous views
We had a fantastic time in this house which is set in a remote location with breathtaking views of an expansive valley. Inside the house, everything is decorated with taste and recently renovated. It is a good location to explore Black Canyon National Park and Curecanti National Monument. Heather the host was super helpful and responsive. Overall one of the most stunning houses we ever stayed at.

Fabulous cabin with gorgeous view
We loved this property! Our family of 4 (2 adults & 2 teens) enjoyed the beautiful view and the wildlife in the yard. The cabin is about 45 minutes from the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and a few minutes longer from Montrose, but the drive is well worth it because you have a great cabin to stay in, a gorgeous view, and privacy. It’s a great place to spread out at the end of a long day of hiking and sightseeing. The cabin is as advertised and is very well equipped - the kitchen has everything you will need to make meals. Heather was really easy to work with during the reservation process and checked in with us to make sure we were doing well and had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend this cabin if you are visiting the area. We would definitely stay again.

Best VRBO experience our family has ever had
I can't recommend this property highly enough. The cabin and the area are just stunning. The 2 bedrooms with king beds are spacious and comfortable; the upstairs bathroom has his and hers toilet rooms, a gorgeous shower, and a bathtub with amazing views. The bonus bedroom is smaller but still very comfy. The kitchen is well-stocked; there is a restaurant nearby at the Arrowhead Lodge (live music on weekends!) but since the closest town is fairly far away we appreciated the kitchen and cooking equipment since we mostly ate at the cabin. The owner is a great communicator and sent everything needed to find the property and to make the most of the area. She responded quickly to questions and provided thoughtful touches in the cabin including 3 sets of binoculars, hiking poles, a picnic backpack, and fishing gear for guests to use. When the instructions say to watch for wildlife and to take bear precautions, believe it! We saw a black bear about 1 mile from the cabin, 20 feet away from our car. We saw deer every day, marmots, sage grouse, and many, many wildflowers. Favorite activities were renting a UTV from Arrowhead Mountain Adventures, Black Canyon Nat'l park, driving over Owl Creek pass, and a day trip to Ouray. We also enjoyed just watching movies and thunderstorms together or playing some of the many board games. When teenagers say it was one of the best trips ever, that really says a lot. Our family plans to return next summer and we're planning it out already!

Why they chose this property

If you are looking to enjoy relaxation or adventure in the Colorado mountains but away from the crowds, Arrowhead may be the perfect location for you! While we don't have t-shirt shops or multiple restaurants, you'll find fresh air, wildlife, beautiful sites, and plenty of space for outdoor activities. Situated at 9,500 ft., this mountain getaway is located in Gunnison County near the beautiful Uncompahgre National Forest. Nearby Arrowhead Lodge offers a restaurant, bar, and beer garden with free live music in the summer. Take advantage of the opportunities for fishing - including guided fishing trips, hiking, dirt biking, mountain biking, off-roading, nature viewing, hunting, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. We are conveniently located halfway between Gunnison and Montrose off of highway 50 (please note that construction may occur on Hwy 50 during warmer months and can result in daytime lane closures/turn taking; information is always updated online to help plan your travel to and from Arrowhead). Nearby attractions include Black Canyon National Park, Curecanti National Recreation Area & Blue Mesa Reservoir, Morrow Point Reservoir, Lake City & the Alpine Loop, Owl Creek Pass & Silverjack Reservoir, the Alpine Trail, and much more in Gunnison, Crested Butte, and Montrose. Check out Arrowhead Mountain Adventures just a few miles from our home, where you can rent sport utility vehicles and snowmobiles.

What makes this property unique

Perched high on a steep hill overlooking an expansive valley, this home took our breath away with its mountain and sunset views. During spring and summer, you may be able to hear the rushing water of Little Blue Creek far below. While much of the Arrowhead area does not have strong cell service, due to its location, this property provides reliable cell connection. Two master bedrooms, along with a bonus, nonconforming bedroom, pull-out sofa and trundle bed help make this a great location for couples or families. While wood burning stoves are common in the mountains, we found that not all properties have fireplaces, and we love the cozy feel of the the floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace. We are also partial to the layout of the kitchen, which overlooks the great room and provides space for multiple cooks and socializing during meal prep. We hope you enjoy your time getting away from it all in Arrowhead!
