I’d recommend coming to this place in the summer when it is warmer weather. The location that vrbo gives you is not correct. Really hard to find. Roads leading to cabin are very tight bumpy dirt roads that are hard to navigate. Need a truck/SUV. There is no WiFi and not good cell service. Only a propane heater and no insulation. Lots of air gaps. Bring food with you as there is not a place to stop close by. The bed was nice and comfortable.
Perfect off grid retreat! Away from the hustle and bustle of life! We enjoyed ourselves and our peace greatly! The hosts are amazing and go out of their way to ensure you have a great stay.
We had deer come right up to the cabin area.
We will be going back.
This place should not be rented in the winter. The windows leak, puddles right on top of the electric cords that you need to plug into the inadequately small solar generator. We thought we were getting a heated cabin. The "heater" is a propane fueled spotlight sized burner. You can't run propane in an enclosed space due the the potential for carbon monoxide poisoning. The water was frozen in the mostly empty 5 gallon jug provided and the generator in the bathhouse wasn't even charged so we had no water there, even if it wasn't frozen. No clue whether it was or not. We tried to contact his cleaner about the issues. We arrived at 7:30p, text her at 8p and didnt get a response until 2:45p the next day. We contacted vrbo and they worked out a partial refund bc it was already 10:30p on Valentine's day so i wasnt confident I would be able to find another place that late.
Darnel did an excellent job with communication and answered every question quickly by text or call. Truly above and beyond. Our stay was adventurous and relaxing. A very nice getaway from KC. Our trucks were able to reach the property easy and I would recommend a truck or SUV. The locals in the area were kind and quiet. It was enjoyable to have a fire in the pit and there was plenty of wood around to use, with several fallen trees close by. The a-frame itself was cozy and peaceful. It got cold, but the propane heater worked well. As expected in the winter time. It was furnished with basic essentials and has a propane camp stove, as well as an outdoor grill and generator (if needed.) We saw deer, owls, eagles and heard some coyotes in the distance. With there being no wind, and few leaves, you could hear pure quiet/nothing as dusk vanished into the night. I’ve only experienced that at Wilson Lake. Well, as you can tell by this extensive post, we loved it. Thanks again Darnel and happy new year.

Bad roads
The cabin was cute and very off the grid. With that being said the roads were really bad. Someone with a regular car could not make it. The out house situation was a little confusing. And maybe put some instructions on how to use the solar power stuff. That was a little confusing as someone who’s never used anything like that. But the cabin was clean and it’s very quiet.
If you’re looking for a step up from tent camping this is definitely the place for you. We went with our 5 yr old who was having a blast catching frogs and fireflies, we all had a great time.
The off grid lot was very quiet and you weren’t really around others.
We enjoyed watching the fireflies at dusk and the thunder and lightning storms from inside the cabin in the evening.
Unfortunately the solar panels didn’t really charge well while staying (which is always a gambling) so we couldn’t use the ac at bed much so we just used our battery operated fans to help stay cool until late evening/early morning when the temp dropped.
Roads are tad rough so cars that sit lower may be questionable heading to the lot it’s pretty far back of the resort away from the older lots but a truck and suv can make it no problem.
In the moments leading up to my wife and I pulling up to the property, the roads were horrible. Potholes and gravel that was so large I could barely call it gravel. The listing said nothing about it being such an awful road. Google maps kept rerouting me different directions to weave around that it was very disorienting and confusing. All throughout each road, there were broken down cars, RVs that were run to the ground and trailer homes that looked like they were involved in illicit activities. Nothing about this area felt safe at all, and that’s not even getting into the cabin itself.
When we made it to the cabin, we felt this overwhelming sense of uneasiness as we got out of our car and walked in. The listing did not say that the windows had NO BLINDS, I assumed that there would be because this place is surrounded by other dilapidated properties that people still lived in. The second we opened the door, we felt like something was horribly off. We barely even sat our bags down before deciding to get the hell out of there. I could not bring myself to even try to justify staying here. The roads were so bad I nearly got stuck a few times because my car is not for this horrific lack of a road.
After contacting the host to let them know we will not be staying (and that we were very sorry for the inconvenience), they said:
“Well u need to call and see if they will return money.someone else could've stayed..your right it was a huge inconvenience”
Way to make us feel welcome :)
