About this property

2 bdrm, sleeps 5 apartment. Pet friendly. Pool onsite. Outdoor grill. Hazard, KY

This is the ideal place on a one acre lot in a clean & safe neighborhood. Renovations were completed in January of 2024. Located in Hazard only several miles (10 minutes) from the hospital, Walmart, and local restaurants and it’s all highway except for a short drive past a few homes and up the driveway! Although this listing is new, Michelle has been hosting since 2016.

This bottom apartment has a full kitchen; a spacious dining room and living room; and two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a bunkbed that has a full size mattress on the bottom and a twin on top. It’s one bathroom is what makes this space NOT handicap accessible, as the toilet and tub are raised and require a step up. It also has a huge laundry room with a newer model washer and dryer. There is a two nigh minimum.
*
The bottom apartment is all yours. You are welcome to be in the yard as well. You also have access to one parking space under the carport, as well as additional parking just outside from the apartment. ****************************************
The heated pool is property of the owner and guests have access to it. It is typically from 82-86 degrees. Chairs, loungers, and beach towels are available, as well as surround sound Bluetooth music. This is “swim at your own risk.” Owner is not liable and of course there is no lifeguard. Pool will generally be available from May to August/September, depending on the weather. If this is something you wish to use, just let Shelly know so she can have it clean and ready. Please do not leave any child under 14 unattended within the fenced in pool area. This includes the swing set. An adult must be with the children in your group at all times when inside the fenced in pool area.

Although this is a new listing, I have hosted since 2016 and have enjoyed doing it. We live nearby, so depending on everyone’s schedule and wishes, you may meet me. I enjoy hiking and gardening, among other interests.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property from a family member in 2002 and aside from this house, which is separated into downstairs and upstairs apartments, all other homes on this drive are property of family members. It is clean and neat and feels like home.

What makes this property unique

This home was built in 1976 by my brother-in-law, father-in-law , and other members of my husband’s and brother-in-law’s family. He was a coal miner who reused and repurposed many things for his new home. He also used rough cut lumber from a local saw mill. The logs were cut from his homestead and sawed at Joe Maggard’s saw mill in Krypton. The house has undergone numerous renovations throughout the years. Originally, my in-laws lived in the top of the house and the bottom was an above ground basement. It was all one home, but the stairs leading up were taken out by my in-laws to make upstairs into an apartment for their son, who was a new college graduate (circa 1991). Soon after, the wraparound porch was added and covered by a roof extension. My in-laws moved after their son married and moved away, and offered to sell it to us in 2002. When we couldn’t come up with the full down payment required, they wrote a “note” due in about six years, which we were able to repay early at a great relief to my newly widowed sister-in-law. When we bought it in 2002, we re-wired downstairs and remodeled it once again. We built a less-steep set of stairs with a landing coming down from the upstairs apartment. Later, we had this covered to keep off rain and snow. The steep stairs were moved to the back/side as an fire escape for upstairs and to replace concrete/block steps that lead straight out into the side yard about 25 feet! Talk about a tough jackhammering job! We also added a small, covered back porch upstairs. My parents moved from Winchester and rented downstairs after a small renovation (took down a wall that made a third bedroom, carpeted , new flooring, and painted). After a couple of years, we carpeted upstairs to rent again and my parents decided to move upstairs, where they lived until their deaths in 2013. Since then we’ve rented to a few people. Renters tend to stay for years…it’s a nice, comfortable, spacious place with awesome landlords who keep things fixed!
