About this property

A Step Away: All New-Walk to Town & Dog Friendly

Our neighborhood abuts the Peterson Nature Preserve and our home can be rented with (if available) our adjacent two bedroom home (a fence with a gate separates the two homes) if more space is desired. Downtown Saugatuck is a short walk away and Douglas and Oval Beach are easy drives. Enjoy all of the amenities provided indoors and outdoors. All "A Step Away" guests receive a discount when shopping our local store during their stay. Lastly, we're dog friendly (w/approval & fee).

• This "A Step Away" home ~ our "Rendezvous" get-away has a lot to offer: Location. Amenities. Hospitality. The all new interior of the single story home offers a fenced yard with mature as well as new landscaping and easy on-site parking is available for a couple of vehicles. The interior offers comfortable accommodations for two and it is styled with décor fitting the character of Saugatuck and Douglas and the local beach and arts scenes.
• The home is prefect for almost any combination of travelers (from a solo traveler to a couple). Whether you're traveling solo, as a couple, or pair this home with our adjacent two bedroom home right next door, the home is perfectly designed for carefree living. Our "Rendezvous" home includes one king bedroom. The new kitchen with dining island opens to the vaulted ceiling living room that has views of the patios and gardens through the oversized windows and glass door. The living room opens to the pergola covered patio replete with seating and a propane grill. The new bathroom (shower only) We think that "A Step Away" home (or homes) is the perfect spot for your Saugatuck get-away.

• "A Step Away" guests can stop into our home décor/clothing/jewelry store in Downtown Saugatuck (Kindel & Company at 241 Culver St.) and ask us for suggestions about the area's attractions, restaurants, and shopping (we call it "lite" concierge services). All "A Step Away" guests who shop at our store will enjoy a guest-only special discount.

• If you need more space to be together but apart, our adjacent two bedroom home may be available ( "A Step Away: Close to Town+River+Nature Preserve" ~ Listed on the other short-term rental site)....The homes are separated by a fence (with gate).

• Things to know before you make a reservation:

• There’s no elevator buttons to press. There’s no common entrance halls to share: The home is for you and your guests only. It is located on the same site as another single family home (a year-round rental home) but is separated from that home by fencing and there are no shared spaces.
• Our homes are thoroughly cleaned by local cleaning professionals with whom we have built long term relationships. Cleaning protocols are monitored and updated by your hosts as necessary and we regularly inspect all homes.
• We have contactless check-in and to further improve your stay we share our digital “Guest eGuide” link with you before your arrival.
• Please enter your expected guest count (adult/children/infant) when making inquiry or reservation.
• Primary renters must be 25 years of age or older.
• Parties are not permitted.

• Fees and Taxes that will/may be included in your reservation cost:

• PET FEES and EXPECTATIONS:
• Certain dogs (up to two) are considered and there is a per stay pet fee, if approved. Do not select "Instant Book" unless the host has approved your dog(s). There is a maximum of two dogs per stay. The pet fee will be added to your reservation as long as you select a count for "pets" on your search/reservation/inquiry. Guests may be able to add/amend/include approved dogs on their confirmed reservation (i.e., on a reservation that did not include dog(s)) if you contact the host regarding this change/request (A pet fee adjustment will be sent to you before your arrival).
• We appreciate being able to bring our pets on trips but there are responsibilities that come with that privilege. It is the expectation that the dog will be kept on a leash when not in fenced area. It is the expectation that the dog’s owner will pick up all dog waste and dispose of the waste in an appropriate location outside of the home. It is the expectation that the dog’s owner will not allow the dog(s) to bark incessantly or often or during normal quiet hours. It is the expectation that the dog is truly a part of your vacation and will not be left alone in the home for an extended period of time. It is the expectation that if your pet causes damage to the home or its contents that the owner will immediately notify the host.

• CLEANING FEES: The cleaning fee will be allocated over the number of nights reserved. The cleaning fee covers a portion of the actual costs incurred (paid to a local service provider and laundry).

• SALES TAXES: Michigan and local law requires the host to collect a 6% sales/use tax on the base rate plus any additional fees (cleaning, dog, extra person(s) fees) if the reservation is for less than 31 nights. VRBO will withhold these taxes and remit the sales taxes to the State of Michigan.

• Things to know for before and during your stay:
• We (or the landscaper) might need to tend to landscaping/lawn but this won't be done too early or too late in the day. The automatic sprinkler system will operate in-season.
• During your stay and on checkout day: Deposit all commingled garbage and recycling (Saugatuck does not offer regular recycling) out to the waste receptacle located near the side gate.
• Checkout day: Please leave all soiled towels in the bathroom. Leave dirty linens on unmade bed.
• Checkout day: Place all dirty dishes in the dishwasher and run the dishwasher before departing and if you use the propane grill please burn off (and wire-brush the grates) any remnants of your feast (a wire brush is in the grill's tank area).
• Please turn off all lights, close all windows, and adjust HVAC to stated temperature prior to checking out.
• Finally, please lock the digital entry lock when you leave.

Thank you ~ R & C

Perfect bungalow
Beautiful property, quiet and lovely location, and just a couple blocks from all the restaurants and shops of Saugatuck. We had a lovely stay. Enjoyed the outdoor table and chairs for playing cards.

About the host

Hosted by Richard Williams

Host profile image
We’re a Michigan native and a New Englander/New Yorker who’ve been hosting short-term rentals in Saugatuck & Douglas since 2016. This year we’re trying VRBO. We’re SuperHosts on the other site so all of our reviews are there.

Why they chose this property

West Michigan and Saugatuck has beaches and art and feels like the East Coast without the salt and sharks.

What makes this property unique

We believe in hospitality. Good, comfortable hospitality. We run a home décor/men’s clothing/timepiece shop in downtown Saugatuck and our guests receive a discount when they shop our store. Plus, we’re there to be your mini-concierge guys.
