About this property

Pet Friendly, Sleeps 14 + Bunk House = 17! 4 Bedrooms + 2 Bonus Sleeping Rooms

I purchased this unusual "enclave" (try to find right angles in the house, there aren't many) in December 2023 and since have added over $70,000 in renovations and furniture, including a new bathroom, outdoor grille, beds and sheets, furnace, washer, range, TVs, kitchen utensils, wall hangings. Almost everything in the house is brand new.

The house has 4 bedrooms (and a bonus sleeping room in the main house) and 4 bathrooms plus a separate bunk house on the hill that sleeps 3. One bathroom is brand new with a soaking tub next to a window that you can look out on the property, shadowed by a pine tree so you can preserve you modesty! (Full disclosure: one upstairs bedroom is somewhat "open air" like a loft and one twin bed is in an "open air" alcove.) You can sleep 14 people in the house plus the bunk house totals 17. More on the sectional couch if you really want to, plenty of extra blankets hidden in the table.

Bunk house has heat and electricity, microwave and fridge. Seasonal water faucet just outside and I'm trying to figure out how to hook it up to the sink inside.

There is 1 fireplace and 1 wood-burning stove (use all the free provided wood you need, personally I can't stand vacation rentals that advertise fireplaces and then make you pay for wood!)

(Almost) EVERYTHING IN THE HOUSE IS BRAND NEW in 2024:

Mattresses, sheets, pillows, comforters, couches, tables, convection oven, towels, pots, pans, silverware, glasses and 3 TVs, the biggest of which is 80", ARE ALL NEW,. The original furnace was one of the first high-efficiency ones ever built but since it was 30 years old, I installed a new one since I don't want you to call me when you're chopping icicles off the old one. Gas grille is brand new as are the 4 picnic tables.

(Please ignore the extra 1/2 bath VRBO adds to the header above, multiple phone calls to them and they never fix what they say is a programming error on their part!)

WHAT'S CLOSE?

You are 8.9 miles from skiing at Norway Mountain which is is slated to open fall 2024. 20 miles to Pine Mountain golf and skiing and the world-class professional ski jump. (https://www.mlive.com/news/2023/09/new-owner-of-norway-mountain-planning-2024-comeback-for-ski-resort.html)

You are 7.2 miles from one of the UP's first iron mines which you can tour seasonally. (https://ironmountainironmine.wixsite.com/ironmine)

You are 4 miles to some pretty good pizza, wings and fish at Kraemers 3 Lakes if you don't feel like cooking. Self service beer fridge if Nick , the very nice owner, is cooking your order.

OUTDOOR WEDDINGS:

The front yard is a gentle bowl shape that is great for staging chairs/guests at a slight elevation so they can see the bride and groom. You are welcome to set up a gazebo/tents on the property. Lots of parking near the bunkhouse. In case of rain you could get a small group on the covered back porch.

And...you have 40 acres to roam including Hamilton Creek on the NW side of the property (just follow the red tiles I've laid down as a path.) There are many walking paths you can explore and you can't see any other properties from the house. You'll find old farm implements on the property. (No hunting please, my nice, protective neighbor just behind me will call me if he hears gunshots!) Snowmobiling/dirt biking is fine but I don't exactly know my property boundaries so do so at your own peril! If you jump the creek you've probably gone too far!

And...I have Starlink Internet so knock yourself out and stream almost anything you want on the 3 new TVs or your own devices.

DOG(S) FRIENDLY AT NO EXTRA CHARGE!:

If you want to leave your pooches outside for a bit but are afraid they'll roam, there's a fenced in corral off the bunk house to keep them close. Max 3 dogs. Please keep them off couch and beds (if there is excessive hair on either my cleaners will charge me - and you - an extra $100!) Dyson vacuums and lint brushes provided if Fido jumps on them.

2 night minimum stay, 3 nights for summer holidays, 4 nights for Thanksgiving and between Christmas and New Year's.

Transparent Pricing: I DO NOT CHARGE TAX on top of the rate and my cleaning costs are pass through (don't you hate searching for a nightly rate within your budget and then the total bill is 30% or 40% more!?) 5% discount for weekly stays; 15% for monthly. Cleaning fees estimated at 5 hours x $60 an hour plus laundromat fees.

DIRECTIONS from almost any direction, find the intersection of Route 2 and Waucedah Rd., east of Norway.
- Head south .2 miles (across train tracks)
- Make your first right (still Waucedah Rd. - look for the sign that says : " Hamilton Lakes 4 miles >")
- Exactly .5 miles to your right look for big mailbox with American flags. Solar light illumination at night.

Two fireplaces grace the home, adding warmth and sophistication to the living spaces. The lower level offers a generous family room, fireplace, 80" Smart TV, card/snack table, and sleeps 5. Vaulted ceilings throughout add an extra touch of grandeur. Step outside onto the the 2 decks, where you see panoramic views of the property. Hamilton Creek flows through the northwest corner. The 2-car garage is yours to use to shelter your vehicles from snow. A covered walkway leads to the landscaped front door. There is even a fenced-in corral for your pooches with a finished bunkhouse for extra guests.~

Grew up in Midland Michigan. Spent 22 years in California. Live in Milwaukee. Love the midwest!

Why they chose this property

I love Michigan and wanted a "woody" house on a lot of land with a creek. I also wanted it close to skiing.

What makes this property unique

Lots of angles, very few of them 90 degrees.
