Overall, this property is good. We came to this house to relax and recharge, and we do feel we were able to do that here. The owners were very responsive with communication, and kindly offered us a delayed checkout because no one was coming in immediately after us. There are many things we enjoyed about this property, it just definitely isn’t a 5-star house. The house itself is pretty cool — lots of custom woodwork, tiling, etc. — beautiful big windows with views of the surrounding woods — I kept hoping for an owl to land on a perfectly situated branch. No luck, but we did hear them and a deer walked through the woods one evening. When sitting on the back porch, it feels somewhat secluded, but this house is in a neighborhood. It is more set back than other houses, but I wouldn’t call it secluded. You can hear dogs, car alarms, etc., and you can see the neighbors when walking from the house to the hot tub. The hot tub was very nice though not warm upon arrival so it wasn’t usable the first night (takes several hours to heat up). It was mentioned that the tub wouldn’t be hot in the email we got just prior to arrival, but it was a bit of a bummer. Overall, the house and property just seem tired. The house was generally clean but could use a deep clean (dirty window sills, baseboards, corners, cobwebs, etc). The outside was about the same — random chairs/tables in the woods (not the ones meant for seating), sagging leaking gutters, a couple window frames hanging from trees, and two old wood stoves just sitting out. While March is just about the worst time for landscaping in Maine, the decks could have used a sweep — lots of wet/matted leaf piles. The house is billed as having a wood fired sauna but there was no firewood in the sauna. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pots, pans, etc. The only coffee maker is a Keurig — not a problem, just worth mentioning since they have very specific requirements and not everyone uses them. The only tea kettle is rusted — we did some creative coffee making. :) There are at least two security cameras outside the house. While we understand this for security reasons, it was a bit unnerving from a privacy standpoint. All previous reviews about the sizes of the bedrooms and bathrooms and the accessibility of the loft are accurate. This would be a very cramped house for 6 people. Overall, this house was fine for us (two adults) as a weekend getaway to recharge — I just wouldn’t call it a 5-star property.
