About this property

DISCOUNTING for longer stays.
Located at an elevation of around 2500' on the west face of a mountain outside Murphy, N.C., Sunset Valley Overlook has gorgeous views of sunsets, the valley below, and distant mountain ridges. While you may have seen locations claiming amazing views, some only appear through a narrow gap, or when all leaves have fallen from trees. Here, you have a wide view year round! Has 2 covered wraparound porches with more than 800 s.f. to enjoy outside, both with gorgeous sunset views just minutes away from restaurants of Murphy, Hiawassee, Brasstown and Blairsville. Harrahs Cherokee Valley River casino 10 mi. away.
The home has three floors with a bedroom and bath on each floor. The main floor contains the kitchen, laundry, dining room and living room and looks out over the valley below with a wraparound covered porch. Queen beds are in each BR with a twin also on the main and terrace floors. The upper floor has a private bath, small walkin closet and a barn door and fixed viewing window for temperature isolation. All floors have ample clothing dressers and a closet. Smart TV's in all BR's except main floor. Iron, blow dryer, blender, mixer, ice maker and gas oven and gas fireplace are present. The terrace floor has its own wraparound porch with outdoor table and chairs, and a living room with Dolby Atmos large TV and popcorn microwave station. Main floor has coffee station with complimentary coffees, traditional and Keurig machines. Couches on the main and terrace floors are not foldout beds but some have recliner feature. Terrace floor has a reading area with dozens of books and some games. This floor can be accessed from the parking area by exterior stairs but when locked, access must be through the main floor front door.
Guest access
TV & WIFI: There are two small locked closets for the maid and owners and otherwise the home is accessible to visitors. All TV's are 'smart' or have Roku capability with basic local channels, and the free streaming channels. You may use your home streaming services as well. WiFi up to 30 Mbps is included which is ample for streaming multiple TV programs or movies. PARKING: There is room for a boat, truck and car in the gravel parking area, or 3 cars total.
LONGER STAYS: The maximum stay for one booking is four weeks. Kindly contact us if you wish to stay longer and we will work on that with you as we discount for stays longer than a week.

Other things to note
Less than one hour to the Nantahala Outdoor, Brasstown Bald, casino, Bryson City, and Lk Chatuge, it's located just far enough up a paved road to escape stresses and welcome sunsets.
As in most mountainous areas, bear sightings are the norm and garbage is not allowed outside or on the porch. Weekly visitors may leave household garbage in the locked tool building and guests staying longer should use the county waste station as there is no county curbside pickup. There are three steps from the parking area to the main porch with one handrail, and on the main floor, there is a narrow, short passage way by the laundry area before entering the bathroom, through which only a narrower walker can pass.
SHOP & SIP in Murphy: Second Saturday monthly, 2-5pm: Retailers will be providing refreshments, special sales, raffles, and fun.Come support the small, locally-owned retailers of Downtown Murphy.

Perfect getaway

We have stayed at other cabins before in the area but this place was by far the best we have stayed in. It was only the two of us and the house could have housed a large family, plus! The home has everything you need and then some! What stands out is the views of the mountains and watching the sunsets. Seen deer and turkeys while there also. Would love to come back in the fall to see the that view! Would highly recommend. We had the most relaxing time!

A little piece of heaven!

The owners did not oversell this property one bit. It was everything they said and then some. The house is beautiful, clean, well supplied and had many little extras. The view, especially at sunset, is indescribable! God put on a show for us every night! Perfect place. Perfect host. I want to give it 10 stars!

About the host

Hosted by Frank Clegg

Host profile image
Our family traveled from Fla. to the north Georgia / North Carolina area for many summers before finding a great house in Hayesville around 2020. We grew to love the area and found this newer Murphy home in 2023, between Hayesville and Murphy , with an even better view after many months of searching. It is extremely difficult to find this type of view on a paved road, with decent internet, not too far from restaurants and groceries so we felt very blessed and our 96 year old patriarch loves to visit his mountain getaway! The rest of the time, we enjoy sharing the house because it is too nice to waste and it helps pay for improvements.

Why they chose this property

This is a quiet residential neighborhood with very few renters -- most folks come here as a peaceful escape and we need our guests to help keep it that way! The view is terrific but we are minutes away from big box stores, trails, restaurants, casino/bowling, waterfalls, etc. The best of all worlds.

What makes this property unique

The name says alot--we overlook a valley with distant mountain ridges staging glorious sunsets and the view isn't dependent upon the season or a narrow gap in trees, like some sites. The two wraparound decks both provide views with drink/food tables for sunset breaks from the rest of the world, or for morning coffee. Each floor provides its own advantages.
