About this property

Unplug and Listen to the Loons!

Looking to get away from it all? This cozy cabin, surrounded by meadow and woods, provides lots of privacy, birdsong, and beautiful views of forest on all sides.

WE DO NOT PERMIT SMOKING ANYWHERE ON THIS PROPERTY, NOT INSIDE, NOT ON THE PORCHES, AND NOT ON THE GROUNDS. Any evidence of smoking will result in a forfeiture of the security deposit.

The cabin can sleep up to 5 people. There are two bedrooms upstairs, and 1 full bath downstairs. One bedroom has a queen bed, and the other has 2 twins with room to play. There is also a sleeper sofa in the living room, with an inflatable mattress. Blankets and pillows are provided, but please bring your own sheets and towels.

Any additional people who stay at the cabin not identified at the time of booking must have our prior approval.

The living room has 2 comfy sofas - one is a sofa bed - and a very comfy recliner. A large screen porch with a picnic table invites you to dine outdoors in rain or shine or take an afternoon nap on the futon . For cooler days, you can dine indoors in the dining room. Should the weather turn cold, turn up the heat with the wood stove (wood not provided but readily available in the area) or the Heat pump heater. For hot days the heat pump will cool the downstairs. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator and an electric stove, and is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, silverware.

Outside, there's an open fire pit for campfires and grilling. A large grill rack is provided, but you need to bring your own wood. A short walk down a wooded path from the cabin brings you to a private dock where a canoe and row boat are available for your exclusive use on Paradox Creek and Paradox Lake. Paradox Lake is known for good fishing, canoeing, and kayaking, and this end of the lake is especially known for the fishing! The creek is fun to paddle on. There are usually lots of birds and flowers to look at. Please bring your own life jackets - especially for children!

While you may feel like you're far from everything here, it's only an easy 10 minute drive to Schroon Lake and 20 minute drive to Ticonderoga, for shopping, historic Fort Ticonderoga, larger boat rentals at Schroon Lake Marina, music and musical theater at the Seagle Colony throughout the summer. There are lots of NYS DEC hiking trails (Pharoah Mountain Wilderness) just minutes away, and the Adirondack High Peaks are only about a half hour away. Bring your bicycles - there are quiet country roads for bicycling.

Comfortable getaway in the woods

Cottage comfortable and all as advertised. Excellent lake access. Boats a major plus. Great fishing and tremendous birding. Perfect base camp for exploring east west and north. Easy access to schroon lake town food stores and beach.

If you love outdoors, this is a great place

We loved the location of this cabin: on a lake, in the Adirondack. There is so much beauty around! We loved the canoe and rowboat, the fire pit and we loved the screened-in porch, so you can feel the outside, but not be eaten by mosquitoes. We really were able to unplug (although there was wifi) and relax.

Cozy Cottage

We enjoyed this vacation rental. Loved being in the woods. Owner was responsive. Kitchen was well equipped to cook our meals. Agree with some others that the canoe was heavy and not easy to get back on the rack so we only used it once. All in all a good place to stay.

lovely retreat on beautiful lake

exactly what we were looking for -- lovely retreat on a beautiful lake. comfortable for our family of four. sufficient kitchen and utensils. delicious well water. excellent screen porch for meals outside. canoe and rowboat was a total bonus. there are rewards for paddling in either direction off the dock. great fishing and birding both ways. swimming off the islands. firepit made for rustic BBQ dinners and classic smores. thanks Micki and David for having us at the cozy cabin.

Cute cottage, peaceful locale

Good communication with owners, appreciate the detailed info provided about local hikes, etc. If staying solo, be aware that getting the canoe down and launched is doable, but challenging. Best with 2 people. Also be aware that the cottage does not have a lake view and is a short (but lovely) walk down to the lake inlet. You can hear the loons which was always a treat. The accommodations were traditional, basic and cozy as advertised (just what I was looking for) and grew on me more each day. The location was perfect for hiking, biking and boating. I would definitely consider going back to this cottage if I were in the area.

Wonderful Adirondack Cabin!

We spent two weeks at this cabin on our annual "girl's trip" and had a lovely time. The cabin met our our needs perfectly, and was well situated for day trips all over the eastern half of the Adirondacks. Our hosts, Micki and David, were delightful and had quick responses to any questions that might have come up. Shopping, gas, and Dunkin Donuts (SO IMPORTANT) were only about 15 minutes away in Ticonderoga. The cabin itself was cozy and comfortable. We could open the screened windows when we needed a breeze and the gas heater would take the chill off quickly for those crisp Adirondack mornings. The back porch as totally our happy place. It is completely screened in, so we could sit out there in the fresh air and listen to the amazing number of birds (including loons!) while reading a book, having dinner, or just chilling out. The property is well situated for people who like outdoor activities in Adirondacks. We brought our kayaks and enjoyed some of the local ponds and lakes. We highly recommend Eagle lake (the put-in is very close to the cabin) as it is a peaceful, spectacular pond with high rock walls and pristine water. The Pharoah Lake Wilderness area has an endless number of trails to hike; some with views, some with ponds and lakes to visit. The two local historic areas that we visited were Fort Ticonderoga and Crown Pointe, and we loved them both. We ventured as far north as Lake Placid, Whiteface Mountain, and the Ausable River. They are all just a bit over an hour's drive, depending the route you take. You can meander on back roads, or you can go straight there. The back roads are quite scenic. Thank you, Micki and David for being such lovely hosts. We had a wonderful, relaxing time. Julie and Chris

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I got there everything was just as it was explained in the paperwork. I really got to enjoy the wildlife will I was there. The cabin had everything I needed to survive for 15 days of working nights. It was peaceful and quiet. The owners where very friendly and helpful if I had any issues.

Wonderful spot in the woods

Wonderful spot on Paradox Lake with all the good stuff — birding fishing hiking. The water was low making boating tough off the swampy dock but once we got out in the lake it was spectacular.

Great quiet getaway!!

We had a great time with our family enjoying the beautiful ADK’s. This quaint cabin was just what we were looking for. Far enough a way to be quiet and secluded yet not more than about 20 min drive to local food and stores. Loved the canoe and rowboat. We just enjoyed a relaxed lifestyle for a few days!! Looking forward to visiting again!!

Private Basecamp for ADK Adventures!

First, the hosts are 5 star people. They were very good about communication and were very helpful when we had any issues/questions. The location in the park and by Paradox Lake is great— a short drive to shopping in Ticonderoga, but easy access to fishing and remote hiking. The canoe provided is very serviceable and the lake is beautiful. The cottage itself is quite old, which has its own charm. It could use some improved lighting though, and the cleaning was not as thorough as we had hoped to find. It didn’t spoil our vacation or anything, but we were disappointed with a lack of cleanliness in some areas of the house. The walk down to the lake is a bit of a workout for out-of shape office guys like myself. Overall , I’d say this is a great place if you are on a budget and want a simple basecamp to explore the area.

Peaceful and private!

Cottage was as described. Setting of lake is beautiful. Everything you need to prepare meals was provided. Owners made it a point early on to make sure everything was ok which was great. We used the canoe a lot which added to the experience. It was a short hike down to the dock so be ware if that is an issue physically. We were fine with it. I would stay again and do recommend this cute cottage.

Funky, but Fine.

Our party had a perfectly fine week at the Paradox cabin—a warm, dry and quite comfortable place for the first two VERY rainy days of our rare vacation getaway. Everything we really needed was there. Not many frills or extras, but all essentials and basic needs were covered, including many little things often overlooked. And the price was good. Nothing to criticize! The cabin is a bit funky in ways, but it's a *camp* in the Adirondacks, and that's exactly what we were looking for. It's a lovely area, and this late September week it was quiet (surprisingly devoid of visitors!), bug-free, and after our first two days the weather couldn't have been more perfect. The cabin surroundings are private and lovely, the screen porch wonderful (even/especially during heavy rain), and the location at the junction of the river and lake is absolutely choice! Many and varied hikes very nearby. Inside, the space is roomy, the kitchen adequately supplied for basic cooking, beds quite comfortable, and we LOVED the wood stove at this change of season. We are all "of a certain age" and among us have various physical limitations, so the steep stairs to bedrooms and the only bathroom downstairs was just a bit of a challenge (*not* a complaint—just a heads-up to others). Just a bit disappointed by the dock (again, *not* a complaint, but to inform others). It is one long & quite narrow stretch, partly sloped (& very slippery after rain), and it drops right off into the marsh on either side. There is no wider area at the water-side end on which more than 1-2 people could sit side-by-side, which we surely would have done if possible. We so very much appreciated having boat use included in the rental, but in our case, the available boats seemed too heavy and the access too awkward to manage easily. And the nearby state park boat rental was closed for the season. We did succeed in making other arrangements, and had a fabulous day on the water, with lots of wildlife sightings. (None of this would have daunted me 30 years ago!) All in all, we had a marvelous time, and very much appreciated this little treasure of a cabin in a very special place. So very grateful that places like this are available for our use! My detailed comments are not meant to be negative — only informative. (I myself would happily move in and stay here for a month or more!) Oh, and we found fast untroubled internet access and cell phone service via internet.

Private & Peaceful

Overall our stay was enjoyable. We were attracted by the offer of a row boat and canoe on premises, however, did not anticipate the trek down the path to the lake. If I were to suggest any improvements, it would be a bathroom upgrade. I found it a little tight, and was disturbed by the mold on the shower curtain. The kitchen was very nice and bright and well stocked with plates, bowls, cutlery, etc. The screened porch and the firepit were where we found the most enjoyment, listening to the sounds of nature and the loons. The peacefulness and privacy made for a nice getaway.

Perfect vacation week

The cozy cabin at Paradox Lake was an amazing place to spend 8 days of vacations. We adored the nature around so much, hearing the cigales during day and night, having a bath in the lake every morning, fishing in the sunset in the evenings and preparing the fish above the fire place afterwards. It couldn't have been better. Additionally, there were so many birds around! We saw humming birds, heard and saw a loon family and also a bald eagle. Then, this place was also a perfect spot for hiking, just some 15-30 minutes car drive away from wonderful areas like the Pharao Lake Wilderness, Lake George wild forest and a bit further the High Mountains and Giant Mountain area. For having dinner a drive of 15 min to Schroon Lake was very convenient and for culture/history Fort Ticonderoga was just 15 miles away. The only small minuses: there were some mice in the house eating our crackers and it became quite hot in the sleeping room underneath the roof (but we could move to the couch in the latter case). For people who expect complete silence (like me): the street on the opposite site of the lake with many trucks is quite audible. But in total we would absolutely recommend to stay there and we miss the place a lot! Thank you to Micki and Dave for offering this wonderful house and the boats!

Spacious, functional cabin that can accomodate 8 or more.

First the pros. Kitchen was very adequate. Full size refrigerator freezer, microwave, full size electric stove and oven. Coffee maker and blender. All the basics. Nice dining area and living room. Screened in porch/deck with a futon for optional capacity in warm weather. The Federal air tight stove worked great for the chilly nights. Canoe and row boat were a fun filled asset. Information packet provided by the owner was excellent. It covered the cabin operation and provided abundant information about the surrounding area. No critters in the cabin; a few spiders, that's all. A few cons. The outside light next to the front door needs to be fixed. The entrance facing the driveway needs to be keyed. Some suburbans are unnerved by needing to walk around the building in the pitch dark night. The hike down to the dock is steep and long; just be aware of the physical abilities that are necessary. Don't forget the deep woods OFF! Not pro or con: Just the facts. There is no cell service or internet. How did we ever get by without it? Some may consider this pro, others may consider this con. Just know what your getting.

Memorial Day 2017

My brother and I get together annual on Memorial Day to fish and hike in the Adirondack Mountains. For our 2017 trip we chose the Paradox Cozy Cabin. Living in NYC and Eastern LI, Paradox NY is a manageable drive for a long weekend getaway. The cabin was very comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, and the shower water remained warm. The lighting was excellent for reading and the heater kept the cabin comfortable. The arrival instruction package was detailed, clear, and understandable. The cabin is extremely private and quiet so we slept well in the upstairs bedrooms. It is a bit of a hike to the lake but use of the canoe is a great bonus. We hiked the Grizzle Ocean 5 mile loop located in the Putnam Pond State Campground and climbed Severance Mountain for views of Schroon and Paradox Lakes. We fished using the available canoe in Paradox Lake and caught small northern pike, bass, rock bass, crappie and a large catfish using artificial lures. The only negative were the mosquitoes and black flies.

Our New Favorite Getaway

My husband and I rented this cabin for our fifth anniversary, and it was above and beyond our expectations. The location is the definition of secluded, which is exactly what we were looking for. The hike down to the lake carrying our canoe and getting it into the water was a little trying, and even though it was a bit of a struggle, it was completely worth it. The lake was beautiful, quiet, and had great fishing! We spent most of our days fishing and swimming, spending the whole day on the lake. We went into town for a nice anniversary dinner at Drake's, and it was top notch. The house had anything I could want as far as cooking (pots/pans/utensils/griddle) and had plenty of space. Micki and Dave were easy to keep in touch with, and gave clear, simple instructions on things we needed to know for our stay. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we look forward to staying again!
