Secluded John Howe designed one level ranch on the 12th fairway of The House on the Rock Golf Course. With American Players Theatre and Taliesin just down the road, the Wisconsin River and village of Spring Green minutes away, and The House on the Rock Attraction 15 minutes away.
A wall of windows overlooks the beautiful golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Enjoy the birds and wildlife surrounding the home or take a short drive to Tower Hill State park for hiking and to see the Historic Shot Tower. Swimming, fishing and kayaking on the Wisconsin River is 2 miles away. Wander in Spring Green, noted as one of the 20 top small towns by Smithsonian Magazine, exploring its many unique shops, cafes, bookstore and art galleries.

Serenity at it’s best!

Watching the many different birds at the feeder, to the deer and their fawns in the fairway.. can’t find a much better stay for anyone who loves to golf!!

Wonderful Vacation Rental

This is a fantastic rental. The location site is absolutely beautiful backing up to the golf course fairway and is well maintained. The house is in great condition and the interior is even better than the pictures. It’s a short drive to the village of Spring Green and several great eating establishments. It’s also very close to Taliesin and House on the Rock. The owner is very good to work with and we had good communication. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip!

Fun friends weekend

It was such a great surprise to find the seclusion and peacefulness we found at this lovely home! We adored the screen porch for hanging out and enjoyed bird watching…and golfer watching too! The house has everything we needed for a great weekend stay.

Relaxing!

beautiful fall weekend

The house was awesome! We had so much fun hanging out at the house. We enjoyed checking out cave of the mounds and then a birthday celebration for my 6 year old at the house. We fed the birds, took a walk, watched football, and drank plenty of apple cider. My sister from S.C. stayed with us and we enjoyed all the Frank loyd Wright books, area architecture. It was perfect!

Serene spot

We had a perfect stay here with our parents for a couple nights. We saw a couple shows at APT and walked around the cute town of Spring Green. Communicating with the owner, Judith, was easy breezy and we would love to stay at this lovely home again in the future.

We love this house. It’s beautiful and a great example of Prairie architecture and it’s on a great golf course. And Judith is a great host. We’ve been here before and will come back!!

Family weekend

We had the best time! The house is beautiful and spacious. We spent the majority of time in the screened in porch, not being eaten by the mosquitoes! Watched the birds and bunnies and deer. We can’t wait to come back. Thanks for supplying the good coffee too.

This house is probably better than described! It is a gorgeous home, on a super piece of property, and a great location! It is an incredibly well stocked home! The two full baths make it perfect for 2 couples or a small family. I couldn’t more highly recommend this rental, and we look forward to heading back again!

Wonderful house in the woods!

We have stayed many times at this lovely home. It's a cozy spot pn the golf course, in the woods but only 10 minutes from town. Gorgeous setting, immaculate property. Home owner is a joy to deal with. We'll be back!

Beautiful house

The house is amazing. It was very clean and well cared for. Judy is the second to none best hostess I have ever dealt with. She provides everything imaginable to make your stay enjoyable. The view is really nice, and the house is set in a really quiet environment. We saw so many different kinds of birds and it was enjoyable to watch them in the screen in porch or an outside patio. We will be going back again next year

Beautiful Home, Picturesque Views, Great Location

This home is even nicer than described and shown in pictures! It is extremely clean and is thoughtfully stocked with amenities that made our stay very comfortable. We loved the screened porch and enjoyed the cardinals, chickadees and finches while we overlooked the amazing views of this very beautiful part of Wisconsin. The owners was so nice to work with - getting back to me with any questions that I had prior to our stay. If you're looking for a relaxing and peaceful place to stay, this is it!

Nice location summer or winter. Host ordered 5 inches of snow to add to beuty of area. Snow plowed the road and driveway, so no issues with access. Spring Green not on our usual itinerary. Should we return and take in more of Frank Lloyd Wright, would not hesitate to book here again.

American Players Trip

This is our second time visiting this lovely home. It’s so peaceful and calm. We always enjoy our stay. It’s a great getaway for our girls trip to American players down the road. We can hang out in the morning and watch the beautiful views, and the golfers on the golf course. The house is so completely equipped. It makes it hard sometimes for us to leave and go out for the day. We hope to be back again next year. thank you for sharing your beautiful home.

Perfect location!

My husband, our dog and my parents stayed at this fantastic property in late Sept. The house was perfect for my family and the setting couldn't be better. The view of the valley and the golf course poured into every room of this lovely home. It was quiet and private and we spent lots of time on the patio soaking up the sun or lounging in the comfortable furniture. The home was very clean with lots of notes to help navigate. Judith was very accessible and check in/check out was a breeze. The location of this house is great as the APT, Taliesen and House on the Rock are in very close driving range. It was a really wonderful get away and we hope to be back someday. Thank you for sharing your home!

Girlfriends' weekend Fall 2022

An absolutely beautiful setting. The fall colors were spectacular. So tranquil. We walked the golf cart paths each morning. The house was comfortable and clean. Kitchen well equipped for us. Great books stocked for us to read on the patio. Don't hesitate to book your stay here. We will be back.

About the host

I love the Spring Green area. I originally moved here in 1983 to work in the costume shop at American Players Theatre. Since then, I have worked at the Santa Fe Opera and The Goodman Theatre in Chicago enjoying painting and dyeing costumes. I have also worked professionally as a Textile Designer for Lands End and American Girl. I like to travel and visit parts of the world where beautiful costumes are still created by indigenous artisans. I collect textiles and enjoy having them around me in my home.

Why they chose this property

In 2013, I purchased this property. I was learning to golf and am an admirer of Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural style. When I learned this house was the first "model home" built for the resort and was designed by Wright's chief draughtsman, John Howe, I became even more thrilled! The home is unique to The House On the Rock Resort complex. It is independent of the resort but is part of it's former history. I have moved farther north of the SG region but my family and I love the house and want to continue to enjoy it as well as share it with others!

What makes this property unique

The first thing I notice about the property is the gorgeous tall pines surrounding it. Once inside the house, the view outside towards the golf course is spectacular. The outside comes inside through the expanse of windows! The space feels serene, open and light. The screen porch brings one even closer to nature. I love sitting there and listening to the spring peepers--or frogs! So many birds frequent my yard-bluebirds nest in the bird house, grosbeaks at the feeders. In the winter I have deer come right up to my windows. I also have noticed coyotes in the snow frolicking!
