About the host
Hosted by Steven Matheson
I'm from Modesto, California. I've worked for Coldwell Banker, Gallo Wine, America Online, and Mellow Mushroom. I came to Durham in 1998, I purchased a house 1 mile away from this location in 2003. In 2004, I purchased this "Ugly Duckling" on the Fringe of Downtown, which was originally a Piggly Wiggly, back in 1946. After 13 years of owner occupancy, as a resident art studio, the building was slowly renovated and received a commercial occupancy permit in July of 2017.
Why they chose this property
Just like everyone else, I drove by this building wondering what's going on in there! For five years, I drove by on Lakewood Ave, seeing Bars and Red bricks, then, one day, there was a For Sale sign in front. As a "retired" commercial broker from Coldwell Banker, I knew what to do. On March 17, 2004, for $105,420, I closed on this 2,100 SqFt diamond in the ruff.
