When we arrived at the cabin, several issues immediately raised safety concerns, especially since we were traveling with our son. There was only one smoke detector in the cabin, located in the second-floor hallway between the bedrooms, and it wasn't working, with no battery. The bathroom light flickered between dim and bright, suggesting the bulb or fixture needed replacement, and there was no fan. Multiple outlets were either missing covers or broken, and one even had burn marks. The first-floor lights, including the ceiling fan, kitchen, and entry lights, were all controlled by a single switch, making independent control impossible. Either all the lights were on, or none. There were unsecured floorboards on the landing between the first and second floors, and a window screen was found on the ground outside. Additionally, old bedding was draped over the stair banister when we arrived, and bottles of pest treatment chemicals were left outside the main entrance. A cushion from the patio bench was found in the woods, likely blown there by the wind. As short-term renters and for the price we paid, we expected a higher quality experience, particularly as we've stayed at other rentals in Hocking Hills that offered far better experiences for less.
