Large Lakeview Mountain Home w/Waterfalls (UpTo 7 Rooms /UpTo 38 Guests)

Welcome to our beautiful property nestled in the Utuado Mountains overlooking Lake Dos Bocas & 1,000 mountain tops. If you like the tranquility & beauty of nature, you will love the lush rain forest conditions & the cool nights this side of the island offers. We also offer plenty of Adventure & Culture + minutes from rivers, caves, history, coffee plantations & under an hour from the beach.
We also have hiking trails, waterfalls, a river, campfire area & even meals available during your stay!

We have many family and friends helping us to make your stay a memorable one. They clean the homes before you arrive, cook meals when requested, and truly help create the “culture” of your home when you need something. I am not usually in town, but I'd love meeting and spending time with you when I am. I am always a text or call away!

Our neighborhood is just that; A community of people coming together looking out for one another, and very open to welcoming travelers from all around the world. Many of the locals that you'll meet in this this area don't travel much, so it is just as exciting for them to meet you as it is for you to meet them. Everyone I know is very giving, loving, genuine and humble, which is one of the many things that makes you fall in love with our beautiful island. I grew up visiting these lovely mountains with these amazing locals, and it's an honor and a privilege for me to share this part of the Island with you.

-You will have a fantastic time at this beautiful home but we remind you that only registered guests are allowed on the property. We do not allow any visitors to our home.
-Events can be negotiated. I have to approve the event after you explain with lots of detail.
-We need to know about pets and they are charged as an adult. If they are not trained, please don't ask to bring them.

Scout Group Utuado Stay
We stayed with a group of 20 high school scouts and adults at this VRBO for 2 nights. It was perfect for our needs! Beautiful place and plenty of space. The host was very helpful and communicative. Directions to the property were very detailed. This was a great find!

Amazing jungle location and incredible place
This place was really great. Very close to lots of jungle hikes, and even one right in the backyard leading down to a really cool waterfall. The layout of this place was really great and you could tell they put a lot of work into making it nice for everyone. The glamping tents were a very nice touch as we were able to wake up to an incredible view with the clouds over the mountains. Post was incredibly helpful. I don't think any other host has ever helped me as much as he did. Definitely made my stay better by suggesting lots of things to do nearby and very helpful and responsive when we did run into a couple of small issues.

Beautiful Adventure
The property was beautiful, spacious, and clean. The property owner was very responsive when we had issues due to the weather. The one detail I feel should have been emphasized on the VRBO listing is that the water at the house needed to be boiled prior to drinking. We did not realize that was the case until we arrived, and we would have made different arrangements for drinking water had we known.

Absolutely beautiful views and amazing communication
Over the past 10 years, I have stayed in over 100 vacation rentals. Adam's communication is the best I have experienced. I had a 12 person group ages 15-87 and he helped with everything from room configuration, to timing on delivered meals and cleanup, to activities in the area that would be approprate for the entire age range.The views from the terrace were stunning both in the mornings and at sunset. The terrace remained a comfortable temperature all day long. We had a few miscommunications, as will happen any time 12 people with such a wide range of ages get together. Adam was quickly responsive to all of our concerns. The bathrooms all have hot water but it frequently takes a while for the water to heat up. The road to the property is best taken with a car that has significant clearance and I highly recommend going down the road for the first time in daylight. The potholes are large and need to be carefully navigated. Of our 12 people, 7 are over 6 feet tall. There were just enough long beds to accommodate the tall people. That may be the first time I have booked a space where we were able to accommodate every tall person without needing to share spaces in uncomfortable ways. Carmen and her husband were incredibly sweet and punctual. They went above and beyond to make our experience exceptional. Overall, I would highly recommend this space.

Excellent All-Around
Excellent all-around. Outstanding lodging, host, location, facilities, cleanliness, safety, setting, privacy, etc. I could not have been more pleased. Beautiful part of Puerto Rico, a tropical paradise in the mountains, and a good base for exploring the rest of the island. I plan to return. I highly recommend that visitors explore outside of San Juan, and the prettiest beaches are elsewhere. I would give the lodge and the host an A+.

The view was as spectacular as advertised. We rented the entire place and had plenty of space for 20 people, mostly adults. This was a super peaceful space for sunrises and sunsets. The swimming hole and waterfall is a bit of a trek downhill, which was a huge hit for the under 50 outdoorsy crowd but not really accessible for the injured and older members of the group. The road up is well paved but quite windy and narrow in places. Having dinner cooked and delivered by locals worked quite well. They were able to accommodate vegan and vegetarians in our groups as well as a nut allergy without a fuss. It made it super easy and no one had to drive up the windy road at night. The kitchen was also sufficiently stocked with pots, pans, appliances, etc. to cook for the group. Overall, recommended for a large group looking for a low-key spot with great views and quiet mornings.

A Very Merry and Sunny Christmas
First - all the reviews are right about our host, he was responsive, even through the holiday, loves the island and really enjoys sharing it with visitors. He spent two hours with us before we even arrived providing us with a list of things to do on the island. And he answered our inquiries in a timely fashion despite Christmas with his family. Second - the place is as immaculate as it is presented in the pictures. And it is the best stocked rental my family has ever rented. All the kitchen items, household items, games, chairs, TV screens one could want. We wanted a non tourist centered visit and though we did a few tourist activities like the bioluminescent bay Adam recommended and a couple of busier beaches overall we enjoyed trying local dishes, shopping in the grocery stores and making new friends. We enjoyed the festivals, the Taino sites, food trucks and local coffee shops. Third - we explored many corners of the island. We had a good time and once we almost mastered the windy road to the place we enjoyed all the property had to offer including the outdoor showers, swimming holes and roped trails. Overall it was a memorable holiday for our entire family.

Lovely outdoor porch w amazing view
This was a great house for a family reunion where the focus of the trip is spending time together. We took turns cooking meals and eating together, alternating dinners outdoors with meals around the dining room table. The best part was having coffee on the porch above the clouds, which form a soft blanket over the valley. When the sun burns it off, you have an amazing view of the reservoir which then twinkles with light at night.

Perfect Home For My Large Groups
I recently used this home for my group of 17 medical students and professionals. This is the second large group of 2019 I have brought to Puerto Rico and both times we stayed at this beautiful home. This home is perfect for my large groups because it provides privacy, comfort, and Adam and Cathy work very hard to accommodate our every need. The house was extremely clean and well prepared to receive my group of 17. My group was blown away by the comfort and beauty of the home and of course the incredible view! The privacy is extremely important to me personally as I am responsible for the safety of all of my groups. The home is very private and secure and to be honest, we felt as if we had the entire mountain to ourselves. There is no other place I would rather take my large groups. I look forward to staying at this house again very soon!

Exceeded all expectations!
I can not say enough about how wonderful our stay was overall! Between the outstanding service, the beautiful property and it's privacy, and the delicious home cooked meals, Adam and Kathy exceeded all of my expectations and catered to our every need, and with 9 college girls in the group we had a lot of needs! My organization brought a large group of nursing students to do volunteer work on the island for a week and as you may imagine, there is no such thing as a set schedule with us! Yet somehow, as if by magic, we had hot breakfast every morning, hot dinner every night, a beautiful clean home at all times, and I had the advantage of being worry free which made my job with my group much easier. Adam and Kathy provided all the amenities we needed and then some. First, the view! No words or pictures can do that view justice, you just have to see it yourself! The food was wonderful, the river is beautiful and my group really enjoyed the hike. The house is large with plenty of room for the group to entertain themselves, and it was so nice that a bonfire was available to enjoy. Adam and Kathy did not just host my group, they showed that they truly cared about my group and their experience, not just of the house but of Puerto Rico as a whole. They showed how much they cared with all of their actions each day. From before we woke until we went to bed each day, Adam and Kathy cared for my group and I am extremely grateful. There is no other rental property anywhere in Puerto Rico i'd rather take my groups.

Incredible Hosts & Views
I came to PR on a humanitarian trip with a group as the Marketing Director of the non profit. Our leader chose this home and I couldn’t be happier. It was at a great price, the perfect location and the hosts were amazing. It was my first stay and it won’t be my last. I run a bed and breakfast at home and they inspired me to the max. I stayed in a room on the bottom floor, it was surprisingly comfortable and cozy. I was not expecting that view when I awoke. It is breathtaking. I not only fell in love with the island but with Adam & Cathy. They made it a point to get to know each and every one of our group. We had 9 nursing students with us bringing healthcare to those in need. They stayed in the rooms on the top floor in the main house. Everyone one of them raved about their stay. The beds were cozy and the amenities were perfect. We will definitely be coming back! That hike down to the waterfall is something I’m so grateful I went on because I found the perfect space for meditation. They were accommodating and their cooking was out of this world!! Thank you guys for quickly becoming my friend.

Tranquil and Spacious home in Puerto Rico
I can’t believe how at peace I felt here. The Sanctuary is a perfect name for this place. The home is spacious, clean, full of amenities (including WIFI) and quite relaxing. I loved swinging in the hammock at night while listening to the frogs. The hosts are quite attentive, and even respond to a quick late night question or two. I really felt at home here with the mountain breeze on my skin, and the sounds of nature all around me. This is now my go to place to stay when I am in this area.

Such An Escape!!
My husband and I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for our honeymoon. Adam and Cathy's place was such a beautiful escape from the typical hotel-type vacation. We had the songs of the chachi tree frogs at night and the many varieties of birds to greet us in the morning. The amazing feeling from looking off their back balcony just cannot be captured in a picture. I also recommend the food that the chef cooks and delivers to the home... for when you don't want to leave The Sanctuary yet have delicious, home-made authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. Win-win! We will return to Puerto Rico before we go anywhere else in the world, and we will ask Adam and Cathy for availability before anyplace else.

Wonderful Home w/ wonderfu views!
We were looking to spend a few days in the mountains of PR after our stay just south of Rincon. I'm not one to stay in hotels, I like space and privacy. I found this home on VRBO and altho it didn't have many reviews, I was willing to take a chance because the owner Adam promptly answered all my questions prior to and after the booking process putting my mind at ease. We were driving part of the way on the crazy, white knuckle, Ruta Panoramica from Rincon, hoping to find a quiet, relaxing place when we arrived and it did not disappoint. Our GPS had us turn off once on the way up the mountain from Utuado which turned out to be very long and very steep driveway but once turned around, the driving directions that Adam sent to us took us right there. It's at the end of a long driveway with jungle and gardens all around so very private and the views of Lago dos Bocas below are nothing short of spectacular! The covered terrace is huge and we spent almost all our waking hours outside on the terrace, eating, playing cards & games and reading. The air is so fresh! All the rooms are very large in size with high ceilings and the floors are tile. The master bedroom bed was very comfortable and even tho there was no AC, it's not needed at night, just open the windows and listen the tree frogs lull you to sleep. We walked around the property and the grounds are very well cared for w/ gardens, flowers everywhere and a few fruit trees. We missed a ripening papaya by about 2 days! We decided not to venture out after dark we so picked up dinner makings in Utuado at Econo before heading up to the house. It's not that far of a drive to Utuado but the road is steep and narrow. The house was well cleaned and the kitchen is very well stocked and has a 5 burner gas stove. There are a few games in the house and a DVD player in the living room if you bring any DVD's to watch. They are building a small apartment next to the house at basement level that at some point will be occupied by the maid/cook and groundskeeper. While staying at The Sanctuary, we did a day trip to Jayuya to visit 2 coffee haciendas - San Pedro and Tres Picachos, both very close to each other and about an hour's drive SE of Utuado. Café Gran Batey is closer but they were closed for a funeral the day we wanted to visit. If you are looking for a beautiful home with fabulous views that offer privacy and quiet, and close to highway 10 to get back to airport I certainly would recommend The Sanctuary!

It has been a rushed and hectic few weeks since returning to the bustle of Chicago, but still my mind drifts back to the relaxed pace and beauty of this secluded Sanctuary. Even this morning driving to work watching a dark cloudy storm front approach on the horizon I was taken back to the memories of majestic tropical mountains in Central Puerto Rico and Adam Garcia's Utuado Vacation HOME nestled high in the lush foliage overlooking Dos Bocas Lake to the north. We have been coming often to this Island of Enchantment for more than the 30 years I have been married to my Puerto Rican wife. Every time we rent homes around the Isle to experience the flavor and culture of different areas. THIS has been our most enjoyable stay in all those times. After a one and half hour drive from San Juan we climbed along a 3 mile country road above the valley town of Utuado to reach a community private road off-shoot past a few local homes. Another 1/4 mile past those we reached a secured gateway that leads thru a winding jungle-canopied roadway to open upon a clearing and the HOME called Sanctuary. Resting atop a bluff overlooking Lake Dos Bocas and its dam below we were greeted by a modern and spacious homestead. Elegance surrounded by Primal Nature. Did I mention amenities ? ! ? Where to begin ? Adam and his Wife has seen to it that even small details abound to welcome their guests. Mornings are the Treasure to experience here. Each day you arise you always first go to the huge rear balcony to see what gorgeous and unique cloud/fog pattern enshrouds the valley lake below. Then as you relax on the hammocks drinking home-grown coffee watch as the morning sun dissipates the mists. My wife and sister-in-law spent mornings walking the acreage taking photos and gathering flowers. Even after a two week stay here they never tired of these walks- and they are native country Boricuas !!! And the Nights... listening to the sounds of Coqui frogs and the laughter of the Mucaro Screech Owl enchants as you are lulled to sleep with gentle mountain breezes. With its central location everything was within a 1-2 hour drive radius with an exciting and vista-filled thrill ride down and up the mountain again each day. I would often make excuses just to ride down to town for supplies for the exhilarating adventures. And then return to the embrace of that private jungle home. Magic is the word I utter when I recount my most recent stay. This Sanctuary will cast its love spell on you.

An absolute gem
We booked The Sanctuary from 12/23-12/26 to celebrate Xmas. We all LOVED it. The view alone is worth every penny. No photo can do justice to the sheer, take your breath away, first look from the terrace. It was clean, well prepared and had everything we needed (except for a set of sharp knives...please fix that bit!). In a good location for all the adventure sports available in the area. The grounds are beautiful. The house is much bigger than the photos suggest. We're a family of 6 and had more than enough space. I'm now telling everyone I know about this place, we had such a good time there. Nervous Drivers might want to do the grocery shop before they arrive. Thanks for letting us enjoy a true Xmas in Paradise!

From a young age our respective moms frequently took us to this beautiful island called Puerto Rico. Although our families were from different sides of the island, we share similar stories of hanging out with crazy cousins in the rivers, adventures in the lush mountain surroundings with our brothers and going fishing at the beach with our vociferous uncles. Our fondest memories were/are sitting at the dinner table with our grandparents to hear delightful stories about how life used to be.

Several years ago I was presented with the concept of using my logistics & real estate background hand in hand by owning and/or marketing amazing homes in Puerto Rico. Since then I've been joined by my beautiful girlfriend Cathy and my lovely niece Katryel who both share my love and passion of the island and its delightful culture.

Once you complete your reservation, Katryel will send a PDF that you will need to print prior to your arrival. This information includes detailed directions with GPS coordinates, more information about your stay and what we call our Activity Chart with lots of extras. The Activity Chart will help you plan out several days in our area with local spots to enjoy!

Upon arrival to Paradise, Cathy and I take over (mostly through text if you need anything). We, like many of you love to travel, the outdoors, to learn about where people are from, their likes & dislikes, but mostly what made you choose Puerto Rico.

Some of these properties are ours and several are owned by individuals (many elderly) that have trusted us to share their homes with the world using our management and marketing systems. We only work with people who also want you to explore and experience some of our rich and diverse culture. Since many of these owners are elderly and all the homes are in residential areas, I encourage you not to book with us if your are not lovely, clean, honest and respectable.
