Shackteau -- nice place, with some hiccups
I was leery of renting a place with no reviews, but this turned out to be anything but a dungeon. In fact it was spacious and cutely decorated, with a lovely water view. It’s bright and airy. On a quiet road, yet convenient to the main road, an ideal location for us. Mattress was comfortable.
Despite the house having a lot going for it, at times we found it really challenging. We locked ourselves out twice, with the key unable to open the bottom lock. (Make sure the button lock is unlocked when you go out.) The property manager quickly got us back in, and mentioned there was an issue with the lock, but it remained the same for the duration. Other issues:
The toilet gurgled loudly, often for 20+ minutes at a time, and occasionally when flushing, shot out water. We learned to stand to the side when flushing. Water in the bathroom sink mostly stayed cold (by contrast, the shower was fine).
The living room has a daybed instead of a couch. It was hard to hoist ourselves onto, and uncomfortable for long stretches. One of us would have used the armchair and ottoman seen in the ad, but they weren't there.
The bedroom window has no covering - great if you like waking with the sunrise. (We got a stick-on blind at Lowe’s.)
Stairs aren’t bad, said the person with bad knees. But opening and closing the apt. door at top of the stairs was awkward and required some fancy footwork.
LR sliders needed a lot of force to move and lock.
A nice place, but could be better.
