About this property

Off grid home with a cabin on a private lake

Staying at Mountain Brook Cabin is an escape deep into the heart of Maine. You can experience the legacy of the Maine Woods by enjoying the warm light of propane lamps and occasionally running a generator for electricity when needed. You will be the only home for miles with private access to a remote lake. In addition to the main house there is another cabin by the lake with a porch overlooking the water.

This off grid property requires the operation of a generator to gain electricity, water and internet. We request that generator use is limited to 4 hours a day. Light in the evenings is supplemented by propane lamps. Water will be pumped into tanks when the generator is on and should last between generator operating times. Hot water, washer/dryer and wifi only work when the generator is running. All kitchen equipment runs off propane and is available without the generator running.

A small dock provides opportunity to launch boats into the private lake. There is a kayak onsite along with a PFD and paddle for guest use. Swimming is allowed in the lake though much of the lake is shallow and muddy which is not ideal for swimming.

There are two cabins on the property. The larger cabin contains 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms a full kitchen and living room. The primary bedroom on the first floor has a queen size bed. One bedroom upstairs contains a queen size bed and the other holds two twin beds. There is a futon on the landing at the top of the stairs that can sleep one person.

The smaller cabin located by the lake has a single room and a porch overlooking the lake. This cabin holds a queen size futon that can sleep two people.

Cell phone service is limited on site as is internet which allows folks visiting our cabin to truly disconnect.

Guests who have questions or issues during their stay can drive 5 minutes down the road to Little Lyford Pond Camp which is also operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club. Staff at Little Lyford can help guests with any needs they have during their stay.

The Appalachian Mountain Club is the nation's oldest conservation and recreation organization, committed to fostering the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the outdoors. The AMC operates cabins and lodges throughout the Northeast in locations that offer tremendous outdoor recreation opportunities. All revenues generated by these locations go back to our efforts to protect and support the enjoyment of the outdoors.

Why they chose this property

The Appalachian Mountain Club has purchased over 100,000 acres in the 100 Mile Wilderness of Maine to protect that land from development while still allowing access for traditional uses such as hiking, fishing, hunting, snow machining and logging.

What makes this property unique

Mountain Brook Cabin is on a private remote lake deep in the Maine Woods. Little Lyford Lodge is a 10 minute drive away so if you have any issues or needs you're only a short drive from a 24/7 staffed facility.
