About this property

The Black Bear Lodge

Nestled at the foot of the Peaks of Otter, our cozy creek-side retreat blends rustic charm with modern comfort. With a fully-equipped kitchen, tranquil bedroom, and outdoor fireplace, it's the perfect escape for nature lovers. Fall asleep to the soothing sounds of the rushing creek below. Book now to experience the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Our cozy cabin features a private master bedroom. The two twin beds have a low ceiling in the loft and are accessible via ladder only. This arrangement may not be comfortable or safe depending on age and dimensions of guests so use at your own discretion. The couch is also a very suitable sleeping option.

Kitchen has apartment size (4 burner) stove, toaster oven, microwave and full-size fridge. Keurig with coffee. Pots, pans, plates & cups. Bathroom is stocked with towels, wash clothes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, first aid kit and hair dryer.

Cellular service is very limited in this area. US Cellular has very weak signal and no other carriers are available. Make sure to note the Wi-Fi SSID and password ahead of your trip. Wi-Fi calling works very well but may need to be enabled in the settings of your device.

Outside, you will find a large, lit covered patio with stone fireplace overlooking Overstreet Creek with the base of Headforemost Mountain beyond.

Overstreet Creek is a native trout stream in a fairly remote and heavily wooded area. The creek attracts an abundance of critters, pests, and dangerous wildlife so please be careful - this is their home too.

Our property has rocky, uneven terrain and our landscaping is a work in progress.
Feel free to dip your feet in or cast a line at your own risk!

Family get away

When we pulled up to the cabin we were blown away by how beautiful the creek was. We loved how the deck was right over the creek and loved the outdoor fireplace. Our 2 young’s boys loved exploring the creek. The cabin was so cute and perfect for our family of 4. We explored sharp top mountain and had a blast at Virginia safari park. Great memories were made!

Perfection!

Rented this for a father/son/dog getaway. This place was just what we needed. The property is beautiful and the location of the porch area over the water was hands down our favorite part! Brandy was excellent at answering all of our questions. I would 100% recommend this property and look forward to staying here again someday.

Rustic Refreshment

It seems like almost every previous guest comments about the creek in the reviews, and that is for good reason. It is an amazing location, and the creek makes it so peaceful. The hosts have thought of virtually everything, and are very kind and accommodating. I highly recommend this hidden gem..

Lovely stay!

We just had a quick trip for one night, but it was everything we thought it would be and more. The bed was so comfortable and we loved sitting out on the deck with the fireplace listening to the creek. We cannot wait to come back!

Tiny Cabin in the Woods

Truly a gem! Secluded, beautiful, everything you might need in a tiny package. The outdoor area is fantastic. A great place to get away from it all, re-connect, and take in the BlueRidge Mtns. Absolutely loved it.

Serenity

A peaceful cabin on a beautiful mountain creek. The cabin was just as described, but the setting and view far surpassed expectations! Brandy was very responsive. Other than clothes and groceries, she had all we needed. The cabin is remote, do not expect to get anywhere in ten minutes - but for a relaxing and recharging time away, we will be back!!

A new tradition has been born

What can I say? We picked this little cabin as a brother’s weekend getaway. We could not have enjoyed ourselves anymore than we did. Brandy is an incredible property host. Likewise, the unit was clean, and for such a small cabin seemed so equipped and stocked and spacious. We will absolutely be booking this property again. We loved it. The serenity of the creek was next level. Almost as if you had a sound spa 24/7. We did bring our own smart TV to watch some college football from time to time throughout the day on Saturday, but we spent the majority of our time on the deck overlooking the creek. The owners were kind enough to stock firewood for us as well we burned fires all weekend. We did need to bring our own little charcoal grill, so if you’re planning on booking, you may want to consider that. Thank you, Brandy. We loved your property. You’re an amazing host.5 star experience courtesy of the Black Bear Lodge

River Retreat

Our stay at the Black Bear Lodge was fantastic. Remote, quiet, right in the middle of nature; we saw so many local animals. The WiFi in the cabin helped keep us connected to the outside world as needed (no cell service). We explored various attractions in the area, Natural Bridge state park, the caverns, the safari park, and went into Bedford for some antiquing and the farmers market. But honestly, the highlight of our trip was Black Bear Lodge itself. It’s nestled in the woods off a dirt road next to a beautiful little river. We played in the water, made s’mores in the outdoor fireplace, played card games with our kids. It was exactly what we needed and I could feel my stress melt away. Brandy was a super receptive host, easy to communicate with, and the cabin was clean and well stocked with all the necessities. We grabbed some food and drinks from a local store and looked forward to returning to the cabin each afternoon after exploring the area. We will definitely be back to Black Bear Lodge.

A perfect week in July

We rented this cabin in the woods for a getaway to celebrate our anniversary in July with our dogs, and this was such a perfect place! The cabin is right on a babbling creek and the deck overlooking is so cute. The chairs were so relaxing. There was an old fashioned fire pit chimney thing which we were not sure how to use to cook, but I am sure would have been lovely to have a fire in. The cabin had one game, monopoly travel which we played and it was fun. The queen bed was a little higher off the ground then most beds and a bit soft for our taste- the husband has a bad back and likes a firmer surface, but this is only a preference- overall it was very comfortable and slept well. The cabin has two ACs one large in the main area and one window in the bedroom, so we were very comfortable in the summer heat. We did use the kitchen to cook most meals and while it was small, it was totally do-able. I loved that they provided a cast iron! Bring a chain mail, as one was not provided. It was only two of us, so we did not use the loft, but it is super cute up there and if we had two kids I am sure they would love it. Be careful on the wooden ladder! We have a 22' Subaru outback and while its recommended to have a 4x4 to take the back road to the blue ridge parkway, our subi made it just fine. Get to Mills Gap for an amazing sunset! We hiked a lot and loved watching the green fireflies dance at night- they are yellow where we are. We also saw a black bear, so keep your eyes open!
