About this property

Old Mills Farm - Private Retreat on 32 Acres - Perfect Couples Getaway

Old Mills Farm is nestled in the rolling hills of southwest Virginia, halfway between Stuart, Va, and Mount Airy, NC. The farm is close to Primland Resort, Philpott Lake, Pilot Mountain State Park, Hanging Rock State Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Dan River, and the historic Earle Theatre in downtown Mount Airy. Numerous recreational activities are within a short drive, yet the farm itself is wonderfully secluded. The house sits on 32 acres and is the perfect place for a romantic getaway for two or as a homebase for adventurers for want to explore the surrounding area.

The property has a large, secluded patio for grilling out or sunbathing, an old barn, an old tobacco barn, and two small creeks. There is plenty of room to walk around or watch the wildlife that is abundant in the area. We get lots of deer passing through at sunset.

If you want peace and quiet, this place is it!

-One bedroom with vintage Henry Link wicker queen size bedroom set with new, comfortable mattress, non-working fireplace, and Smart TV
-One full bathroom with tub/shower combo, large walk-in closet, toilet, and spacious vanity.
-Bright and airy dining room with vintage Henry Link wicker table and chair set
-Newly updated kitchen with new cabinetry, stove, sink, and microwave. Also has dishwasher, full-size refrigerator, pots/pans, dishes, and utensils.
-Adorable living room with vintage Henry Link wicker living room set including sofa, loveseat, and rocking chair, non-working fireplace, and Smart TV
-East-facing porch off of living room lets you enjoy the sunrise as you drink your morning coffee.
-South-facing patio gives you warm sunlight all summer long! Patio is spacious and has a table and chair set.
-Enclosed porch serves as entrance to the house and laundry room.

Please note that the bedroom is currently undergoing re-painting, which is why there aren't any pictures (yet). The bedroom will be completely re-painted and ready to go by Aug 1st!

Board games, card games, paperback novels, bocce ball, and outdoor games ready for you to use and enjoy.

Grill, patio furniture, and fire pit outside.

The driveway is long enough for vehicles pulling an RV, boat, or horse trailer. There is also an external RV hookup (electricity and water only, no septic). Please inquire if you need to use the RV hookup as this is not included in the basic rental rate.

Outdoor security cameras monitor the driveway. If you decide to run naked here, please avoid the front yard, lol. There's plenty of room to run naked in the backyard!

If you have ever wondered what it would be like to downsize and live in 1,000 sf or less, come try it out at our place! Although the house is smaller than average, it has everything you will need.

About the host

Host profile image
This home and farm once belonged to my paternal grandparents, then to my parents, and now to me. I have always loved this place and decided to make it available for guests on VRBO to share the seclusion and serenity with others.

What makes this property unique

Our property is unique because of how very quiet it is there. Hours can pass without a single vehicle passing. The back yard is especially private. Couples who want to focus solely on each other can stay here with limited distractions. Individuals who simply want a peaceful place to unwind will also find that here. Outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers will appreciate the natural beauty of the farm and the proximity to outdoor activities.

Another thing that makes our property unique is that it has been updated with attention to earth-friendly practices and lung-friendly design choices. A person whose allergies "flare up" in a normal hotel with carpet and heavy curtains may be more comfortable here where I have tried to decorate with the allergy- and asthma-sufferer in mind (I suffer from allergies and asthma myself).
