Ripped Off And Unhappy
True North Properties is located in Charlevoix, Michigan, 190 miles from the ‘condo’ we booked on Vrbo in Grand Haven. That is important because, the very first night we were there, a window that had been left open crashed to the ground from the second story and shattered on the ground below when we attempted to close it. The person charged with ‘managing’ our stay was unreachable, and the phone number provided for help never got answered, so we were left with half the window gone five feet from the bed we were expected to sleep in. The adjoining room was equipped with a ceiling fan and light, but both were inoperable. When an actual human showed up twenty-four hours later, the solution was to cut a three-inch thick piece of foam insulation and stick it in the window opening. When the wind picked up later that night, the insulation panel moved with it, so I purchased a roll of duct tape and taped it to the frame. What True North Properties has done is buy old homes in the area and chopped them up to stuff as many bodies in them as they can as vacation rentals. The air conditioning unit in the basement, three floors below does a wholly inadequate job of cooling the upper floors. There were no ice cube trays in the freezer, and no stopper in the bathroom sink. The shower curtain was a haphazard affair hanging from chains that wouldn’t stay on the hooks. The condensed version is that this property was a mess and anyone considering renting it should reconsider.
