About this property

The Happy Camper with Outdoor Kitchen. Near Annapolis, Black River, Sam Baker.

A great place to unplug and get away from it all! The Happy Camper includes a covered outdoor kitchen area, a firepit and additional beds in the adjacent 1 room cabin. The covered outdoor kitchen is usually the highlight feature for hanging out. Many of our guests are looking for something more comfortable than camping after a float on the crystal clear Black River nearby.

The location is located nearby numerous outdoor gems including the Black River, Taum Sauk, Mountain , Sam Baker State Park, Elephant Rock, Johnson Shutins, the Ozark Trail and mountain biking areas. The property has a year-round spring-fed creek flowing through it to enjoy and explore.

This is a rural "glamping" location outside of Annapolis on approximately 8 acres. There are 3 other cabins on the property - 1 is also rented out and the other 2 are private. This is a relaxing location to come enjoy some quiet and explore the outdoors. The spring-fed creeks on the property are normally shallow and flow year-round with clear water. The creeks are great for children (and adults) to play in and explore. The water is cool year round. Expect to see small fish, crawdads, lizards and turtles.

The highlight is the covered outdoor kitchen, which includes an outdoor gas stove, sink, tables, hammock chairs, and a screened-in portion. There is also an outdoor firepit with chairs next to an open grassy area. We provide some firewood and you can purchase more from us if needed.

There is room for 3 people to sleep in the camper (1 double bed in the bedroom and 1 twin bed in the living area). The rental includes a 1-room cabin that can sleep 2 additional people in twin beds.

You will need to drive across the creek to access the property. Most cars can make it across but I do recommend using a truck or SUV. The water may rise right after a heavy rain making it impassable.

The only stove is outdoors. There is no working oven. The refrigerator is indoors and full sized. There is also a mini-fridge in the adjacent cabin. There is a microwave in the camper. There is a propane grill on the deck.

Come here to unplug. There is no cell phone service here. We have free satellite internet you can use for Wifi calling/texting but its not reliable for high speed needs like streaming.

Need more room? Check our adjacent rental "Cabin on the Creek" , which has room for 4, for availability. There are 2 private cabins on the property.

No pets.

We purchased this property a few years ago. We live in St. Louis but spend as much time as we can in the area. We love spending time at our cabin, listening to the creek and birds. There are so many fun things to do outoors. We use it as a home base to visit local spots for swimming, floating, and hiking. The geology and natural beauty keep us coming back and we are grateful for the opportunity to share it with others. We really hope people with unplug and connect with the environment and their friends/family.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this site because of the creek. The spring fed crek runs through the property and flows year round. The water is clear and full of life - fish, turtles, crawfish (and a few snakes). The sound of the creek and the serenity of the surrounding nature is always a calming way to spend the day. We also enjoy starwatching the clear skies at night.

What makes this property unique

This little glamping camper lets people enjoy nature with a bit more creature comfort than camping. After a hot summer day, its great to have a soft mattress and air conditioning. The highlight of this rental is the outdoor kitchen - the covered area is makes the rental great for group hangouts. The outdoor firepit is always a favorite. Most people catch a float trip on the Black River during the warm months.
