About this property

Oceanfront Cabin-Castle in Maine Woods

We welcome you to experience our unique oceanfront log cabin-castle in the woods.

Matching the unique exterior architecture—with its rustic turret and tower, is eclectic interior design. The house was lovingly built by the owner over the course of 50 years. Bedrooms are named for the Hall family history: the Reverend’s Library, the Botanist’s Retreat, and the Lookout Loft. The house sleeps six comfortably, each room with a double bed. There is plenty of space in first floor living area for air mattress/extra guests if desired (no charge for additional people).

The open concept first floor has a wide layout kitchen, generous living room and front dining area, boasting a full wall of oceanfront windows with additional seating. Two-story ceilings feature exposed beams surrounding a catwalk that leads to an ocean-view loft bedroom. The living room has a smart TV where you can use your streaming services, as the house comes equipped with free Wi-Fi.

Though the ocean makes for a wonderful natural cooling system, the house is also equipped with air conditioning for summer comfort. In the winter, supplement the modern heating system with our large, modern wood stove (wood provided in attached shed).

We hope you will delight in discovering all of the uniquely sourced items and crafty carpentry that has been integrated into the home—from stained glass windows to nineteenth century barn board paneling to driftwood handles and rails.

There is ample woodland surrounding the property for walking and exploring, which includes access to Reid State Park and its beaches. Maine State Park pass included with rental.

We are a pet-friendly residence, so feel free to bring along your furry family members to enjoy our one-of-a-kind Maine gem!

Great Stay
Excellent place to stay! My adult daughters and I had a great mid-week get-a-way at your place. It was warm and welcoming. We loved being steps away from Reid State Park. Well equipped kitchen, the woodstove was lovely. Thanks!

Cozy house with gorgeous ocean views
The house was exactly what we were hoping for -- right on the ocean, close to long beach walks, with delicious food nearby. Loved using the wood stove! The host was very responsive to our various questions and requests. We'd love to return!

Fun place, great host
We had a great time during our stay. Very fun and unique placeb to stay. We had a little pine squirrel make his way into the house with us somehow, but the host was very understanding and it didnt take away from our stay at all. Thanks, Micah, we hope to be back.

A truly immersive escape
This cabin is something incredibly singular and special. It is imbued with the legacy of the Hall family, and you can read their history as you explore the house. The view is unbelievable - waking up, going downstairs, and being that close to the ocean is so peaceful. We could have spent a month reading as nearly every room is a library. The kitchen is stocked with some great old cast irons and lobster pots for whatever one would need. The China and dining wear even had character and personality. This place is truly a gift, and we thank Micah and the Hall family for opening their doors to guests like us. We take the peace and joyful energy of this place with us. We hope to return someday.

Rustic yet charming the downstairs open floorplan is spacious with ample seating to sit down and relax while listening to the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks.

Ocean view! Peace and Serenity
Such a great location! And the house is rustic heaven! Everything needed to provide a great vacation! I was able to do some fishing out front, caught a mackerel, some harbor pollock and a blue fish. Had a seal come and investigate while I was casting. We had two white sided dolphin swim by. Also saw a fisher looking for dinner in the nooks and crannys of the rocks. Overall, my kind of heaven!

Rustic Retreat
This place is an amazing rustic time capsule. It takes me way back to vacations spent in a rustic cabin on the Allegheny River, except magnified 10 times. Surrounded first by the Maine woods, next the ocean vs the river, ocean wins every time. Once inside, you are wrapped in warm pine panels everywhere. True rustic construction and decoration seldom found anymore. Add a wood stove and views out every window. We found it hard to leave for home. We are already planning our next stay.

Unique Stay
This property is truly unique. The views and location are amazing. Being right next door to one of the most beautiful Maine state parks is priceless. The house was exciting for my kids and they liked exploring it. The host was aware of some issues and let me know in advance, which I really appreciated. It does need some general maintenance and upkeep, but if you plan to spend most of your time outside like we did, it’s an interesting place to crash at the end of the day.

We are the Hall Family and this is the home our father built! We are very excited to share it with you so you can continue its legacy and create memories here with your family and friends, much as we have over the years.

Why they chose this property

This area is a perfect place to visit and relax with its combination of woodland hiking and wildlife, and beach fun and sun in the Summer. In Winter, it is a known cross-country skiing hub, with downhill destinations, such as Sugarloaf and Sunday River, within driving distance. In the Fall, the foliage is absolutely breathtaking. And, in Spring, the buds, blooms and butterflies breathe life back into the awakening scenery. And what makes this oasis truly restorative is the seclusion, while still being only 5 minutes to the nearest country store, 5 minutes to the Wharf and Lobster Co, 20 minutes to charming downtown Bath, 30 minutes to the college town of Brunswick and Boothbay Harbor, and only 40 mins to the Freeport shopping outlets. Even Portland with its historic Old Port, is only an hour away. This spot is ideal for anything you want to do in Midcoast Maine!

What makes this property unique

Completely built by owner and lived in by just us our whole lives. Hand-built features/unique architecture. Private woods/trails. State park and beach adjacent. Classic Maine rocky-cliffs. Sustainable infrastructure. Wood stove. Stained glass windows. Ocean front views.
