IMPRESSIONS

The location of the property was convenient and the views of the river were beautiful. The property is in need of some TLC; it's rather shabby. There is an insect problem; we killed several roaches and some spiders. It feels as though the place has been neglected for a long time.

The Swinging Porch Bed

Lovely, comfortable home with a private dock on the river. Incredibly comfortable and peaceful. Close to dining and Muscle Shoals music scene but feels secluded. Screened back porch with rockers a bar and a suspended bed-so relaxing and fun! We are already planning our next visit! Host was phenomenal!

Fishing Trip

Lot's of room and clean. parking for 2 trucks and boats but a shared driveway so you cannot block. If you have more than 2 boats there was parking along the road. Neiborhood was just ok. Overall good trip.

Perfect Location on Lake Pickwick

We came to Lake Pickwick for Bass Fishing, mainly smallmouth. We caught some nice smallmouth bass. The house was great and the owner Judy was very nice and took great care of us. The house was beautiful, clean and had a nice relaxing view of the lake. We will definitely be back soon. James Sexton

Enjoyable & Relaxing

We enjoyed our stay at the lake front home. The home is exactly as shown in the pictures, spacious, charming and clean. The furnishings are comfortable and the home is tastefully decorated. From the screened in porch we watched boats and barges move up and down the lake. Upon our arrival, there were some vases of fresh cut flowers in the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom as well as some freshly baked pumpkin chocolate chip mini muffins. We would most definitely stay again.

We throughly enjoyed our stay. House was clean and supplies were adequate. Loved the screen porch and the fact that it was on the river. Not a complaint but I would have enjoyed cutting some of the foliage to have a better view of the river. We would enjoy staying at this place again in the future. Thank you.

Cozy and friendly

My party of 8 stayed in this lakeside home for a long weekend and really enjoyed it. The house was cozy and functional, the porch was wonderful to hang out on, the river was clear and beautiful, and the owner was very accessible and friendly. She kept in touch, brought supplies that were running low, and gave some great tips for things we might like to do while in the area. Thank you for sharing your home with us, Judy! -Angie

Beautiful lake house exceeded our expectations

We have used Homeaway and VRBO for many years and this rental is right at the top. The lake house was beautifully decorated, clean and had a well-stocked kitchen. The views from the screened in back porch are nothing short of breathtaking. We felt the stress melt away right away. Judy did a wonderful job making us feel welcome without being intrusive and she even had homemade muffins for us. There is a canoe with the rental house that we used on the lake and thoroughly enjoyed. It is very pet friendly and our dogs loved it. We highly recommend this rental and wish we could have stayed longer. A word to the wise; bring bug spray.

A Magical Place

My second trip, this time with my two daughters and two nieces. Could not have been better. The comment one evening on the porch, agreed to by all, was that it was a "magical time". Everyone first comment after be in the house for only moments, was that it felt like home. We invited Judy, the owner, to visit with us Sunday evening. What a joy. One of the most upbeat, positive folks you could ever hope to meet. I was sad that the hummingbirds had moved on for the winter but there is always next year. By the way, Judy makes fabulous muffins, they were parceled out very carefully to be certain they were evenly shared!!!

About the host

Hosted by Judy Kirchner

Host profile image
We (property owners Tim and Judy Hendrix Kirchner) grew up in this area and we were fortunate to be able to keep this home in the family when Judy's mom decided to sell and move into town. We both graduated from the University of North Alabama in nearby Florence; Judy was a teacher for many years and Tim went on to the University of Alabama, Huntsville, Engineering School, earning a degree in electrical engineering.

We lived for almost 20 years in the Marshall Islands on the island of Kwajalein, and now we split our time between Huntsville, where Tim continues to work in missile defense, and our lake house on Locust Shores, where Judy loves fulfilling her dream of owning a bed and breakfast.

We have two grown children, Julianne, a nurse who is married to the world's best son-in-law and lives in Huntsville, and Graham, a doctor in Orlando, Florida, is coincidentally married to the world's best daughter-in-law, also a nurse. We're eagerly anticipating the world's best grandchildren!

Why they chose this property

For going on six decades this home on Pickwick Lake has been in our family. Judy and her sisters were raised in this home (hence the name, Three Gulls); we were blessed to be able to keep it in our family to be loved by our fourth generation. It has been our gathering place for over 60 years because we cherish the beautiful, restful atmosphere the home has to offer. It's an older, comfortable, happy place in the country for friends and family to gather to enjoy water activities, play games, watch waterfowl, fish, read, or to just relax.
THIS HOUSE IS NOT FANCY, NOT IN A GATED COMMUNITY AND IS NOT THE HILTON. Please don't reserve it if you're looking for an upscale, new home. You won't be happy here. Neither will we.
If, however, you're looking for a homey, comfortable, clean and peaceful property in the country, away from the busy-ness of town, this may be the house for you.

What makes this property unique

Great for tournament fishing participants! Directly located on Pickwick Lake, part of the Tennessee River, this area is known for great fishing year round. Located just 10 minutes from Pride Landing Launch Ramp, and only 13 miles, (about 20 minutes by car, seven miles by water) from Florence Marina/McFarland Park. There's plenty of boat parking in our double driveway. Fishing from our small, private pier is another option, or guests may use our canoe for fishing or just relaxing on beautiful Pickwick Lake. ASK ABOUT LAKE CONDITIONS IF WATER ACTIVITIES ARE PART OF YOUR PLANS. Great for family members and friends of fishing tournament participants as you may watch the action from the screened porch or decks!
