About this property

The Bunkhouse - A Unique Farm Stay. Goats, dogs, chickens and 28 Park like Acres

Welcome to Under the Hoof Farm!

Nestled on 28 picturesque acres, Under the Hoof Farm is a vibrant haven for animals and nature enthusiasts alike. Here, you'll encounter a delightful mix of goats, chickens, dogs, and the fascinating gopher tortoises, all coexisting harmoniously. As a proud Stewardship Forest, Certified Tree Farm, and designated gopher tortoise habitat, we are deeply committed to sustainable land management and wildlife conservation.

Our farm is a hub of creativity and productivity. Wander through our bustling wood shop, get inspired in our pottery studio, and witness the beginnings of our future silvopasture—a harmonious blend of forestry and grazing.

At Under the Hoof, our goat family is always growing and bustling with life. While we typically breed in the fall, these playful creatures often surprise us with new arrivals throughout the year. Spring is especially lively, with the arrival of adorable kids in April and May. Our flock of ten chickens adds to the farm's charm, providing fresh eggs daily and a constant symphony of clucks and crows.

Protecting all our animals are our dedicated Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGDs). Our five Anatolian Shepherds and Great Pyrenees tirelessly watch over the farm, ensuring the safety and well-being of all its inhabitants.

Gardening is a cherished activity at Under the Hoof. Our ever-evolving garden is both a source of nourishment and education. The majority of the vegetables we grow are generously donated to Drexel & Honeybee's, a unique donation-only restaurant in Brewton, AL, dedicated to serving the community.

Come visit us and experience the joy of farm life, where every day brings new adventures and a deeper connection to the land.

BTW - Starlink Internet included.

The Bunkhouse
Welcome to The Bunkhouse, your cozy retreat nestled in the heart of our bustling farmyard. Here, you’ll find our home, a well-equipped wood shop, a creative pottery studio, essential farm equipment, and various supplies—all contributing to the vibrant life of Under the Hoof Farm.

Just behind The Bunkhouse, you can explore over a mile of scenic trails, wander through our developing 20-acre hardwood forest, or visit the 4-acre pasture where our goats play and graze.

To the west of the yard, you’ll discover the main barn and pasture. As you stroll towards the barn, you’ll pass our kidding pasture, where new goat kids are born, and our lively chickens, always busy laying eggs and clucking around. We also have a secondary, smaller barn dedicated to storing hay and housing the 'Billies' during the breeding season.

Under the Hoof Farm is a labor of love and a continuous project. Since purchasing the property in February 2021, we’ve been transforming 34 acres of overgrown midstory brush into the flourishing farm you see today. Our journey is ongoing, and we’re excited to share it with you.

Guest Access

We welcome guests to explore most of the farm property. However, for your safety and the well-being of our animals, we kindly ask that you refrain from entering the pastures or feeding the animals. You’re welcome to visit the wood shop and pottery studio with an escort.

Other Things to Note

Life at Under the Hoof is laid-back and welcoming. For your comfort and safety, we recommend wearing closed-toe shoes, as our friendly ants have a penchant for stinging.

We look forward to your stay with us and hope you enjoy the unique experiences our farm has to offer

About Us

Hello and welcome to Under the Hoof Farm! We are a retired couple with a passion for adventure and community. I come from a background in the technology world, while my wife has a rich history in hospitality. Our journey has taken us far and wide, including an unforgettable three-year travel adventure. One of the highlights was spending nearly a year living just 8 km from the Belize border in Mexico, where we intended to participate in a sustainable development project that was unfortunately put on hold due to the pandemic.

Our travels have deeply influenced our appreciation for sustainable living and community engagement. When we found this property in February 2021, we saw the perfect opportunity to create a space where we could bring these values to life. Transforming this land into Under the Hoof Farm has been a labor of love, and we enjoy sharing this ongoing journey with our guests.

Hosting allows us to meet wonderful people from all walks of life, share our experiences, and create a welcoming environment where you can relax and connect with nature. We look forward to welcoming you to our farm and sharing a piece of our dream with you.

Why they chose this property

Our Neighborhood

Welcome to the serene and charming rural heart of the South, located in the northwest corner of the Florida Panhandle. Here, our unique location places us right along the state line, with Florida on one side of our road and Alabama on the other, offering the best of both worlds.

Our property, affectionately known as "high and dry," is a rare gem in this region. Surrounded by a picturesque mix of longleaf pines and stately oaks, the landscape provides a beautiful and tranquil backdrop to our daily lives. The diverse flora not only adds to the natural beauty but also supports a thriving ecosystem.

When we first set eyes on this land, we immediately saw its potential. The blend of open spaces and dense woods inspired us to create a sustainable homestead, and we’ve been dedicated to nurturing and developing it ever since. The peace and quiet of our rural setting allow us to immerse ourselves in nature, while still being part of a close-knit community that values the simple, meaningful aspects of life.

What we enjoy most about our neighborhood is the sense of calm and connection it brings. The nights are filled with the sounds of nature, and the days are perfect for exploring the trails, working on our homestead projects, and enjoying the beauty that surrounds us. This place has become our sanctuary, and we love sharing its unique charm and tranquility with our guests.

What makes this property unique

What Makes Our Property Stand Out

At Under the Hoof Farm, we pride ourselves on being truly unique. Our 34-acre property, once overgrown with midstory brush, has been thoughtfully transformed into a thriving, sustainable homestead. This ongoing project is not just about creating a home for ourselves, but also about fostering a healthy environment for the local ecosystem.

What sets us apart is our commitment to sustainability and conservation. From our Stewardship Forest and Certified Tree Farm status to our designation as a gopher tortoise habitat, every aspect of our farm reflects our dedication to responsible land management. Our mix of longleaf pines and hardwoods, primarily oak, creates a diverse and resilient landscape that supports a wide range of wildlife.

Our approach to farming and homesteading is both innovative and traditional. We integrate modern sustainable practices with time-honored farming techniques to create a self-sufficient and environmentally friendly operation. Whether it’s our bustling wood shop, creative pottery studio, or the future silvopasture, every element of our farm is designed with sustainability in mind.

Additionally, the location of our property is unique. Nestled in the rural heart of the South, right on the border of Florida and Alabama, we offer a peaceful retreat that combines the charm of Southern hospitality with the tranquility of nature. The “high and dry” terrain provides a perfect setting for our endeavors, allowing us to build and grow in harmony with the land.

Under the Hoof Farm is more than just a place; it’s a journey towards a sustainable future. We invite you to join us and experience firsthand what makes our property so special.
