About this property

Historic 1940s lakeside cabin on spring-fed pond. Close to Acadia National Park

Lakeside rustic cabin on 365 acre spring fed Georges Pond, Franklin ME. One of the few remaining original camps on the lake. Two bedrooms, kayaks, hiking trails, wildlife, fishing and swimming at your front door. Incredible sunsets! Shared fire pit with spectacular star gazing. Close to Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park, and shopping & restaurants nearby.

Please note:: due to the fact that this cabin is just feet from the water, there is no bathroom in the camp itself. There is a separate building that houses the shower, bathroom sink, toilet, and the washer and dryer. The water is pulled from the lake which is fine for showering, washing dishes etc, but not for drinking or cooking. We will provide 5 gallons of fresh drinking water per week, please plan on bringing bottled water if you need more.

This camp shares a driveway with the camp next door. That camp is currently being used off and on but they have their own separate bathroom facilities for their use.

This place was beautiful. An amazing sunset over the lake greeted us as we arrived late Friday. My daughter, niece and nephew immediately went to the dock on the property and started fishing while I unpacked the car. There is a separate area for a campfire which we relaxed at to make s'mores. The next morning the kids fished and I kayaked before we left for Bar Harbor and Acadia. We made it back to the lake cabin to cook dinner, fish and kayak some more and relax. We had our own bathroom cabin steps from the main cabin with a toilet stall, shower stall and sink. It offered privacy and gave a country home feeling. We left the next morning and it was bittersweet. My gripe to myself was that our stay was too short. I absolutely want to come back to this same place, make more memories and stay longer next time. Very relaxing, homey, quiet and felt private while being surrounded by nature. Barbara thoughtfully left us a package of whoopie pies and really made this cabin feel comfortable for us. We all loved this experience, amenities and it was plenty of space for us. Thank you so much!

I grew up coming to George’s Pond every summer with my family, and raised my own children on this pond. I loved it so much that I eventually relocated to Franklin from the Philadelphia area full time.

Why they chose this property

The Downeast region of Maine has something for everyone. Where we are located is literally 6 feet away from the lakes edge. There are magnificent sunsets, wild life, swimming and hiking right out the front door. Acadia National Park is a natural wonder not to be missed and only about 35 minutes away ( give/take) Bar Harbor has excellent shopping and restaurants, and there are many boat tours that offer whale watching, and nature cruises Antique stores and small brew pubs are also close by. Several mountain and waterfall trails are within a short driving distance. Natural fun at its best.

What makes this property unique

Our cabin is one of the only surviving original camps on the lake. Built in the 1940s, it retains its rustic charm but still has all the amenities you could want. There is a Full kitchen, WIFI, TV and assorted games. There is a fire pit for toasting marshmallows and telling stories. There are available kayaks, fishing and great sunsets. We are located in George’s Pond Road ( paved) for easy access. Front deck is steps away from the water to enjoy your morning coffee while being greeted by the loons. Where we are on the lake is a gradual walk into the water, with no steep hills or drop off. This place truly is what they mean when they say it’s the way life should be.
