About this property

A City View Rental, Downtown-Gov't Hill

Defining the Alaskan experience, A City View Rental is situated on Government Hill, Anchorage's most historic and charming neighborhood. The neighborhood overlooks downtown proper one mile away. The suite is a very bright and cheerful daylight basement. It is a quick 10 minute walk to downtown proper and all of the activities and shopping the downtown area has to offer.

Several parks in the neighborhood offer views of downtown, Mt. McKinley, Mt. Susitna, Cook Inlet, Knik Arm and the Port of Anchorage. A five minute walk will get you to world class salmon fishing at Ship Creek during fishing season.

Also a short ten minute walk is the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail where you can ski, bike or walk and enjoy the coastal beauty to your heart's content. The Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, The Egan and Dena'ina Convention Centers, and The Anchorage Museum of History and Art are just minutes away.

The Iditarod starts less than a mile from the house. You can enjoy the winter festivities and be home in no time when you're ready for some hot cocoa and a movie! Or, in the Summer, enjoy a cold beer or glass of wine in the backyard around the fire pit after a hard day of fishing, shopping or sightseeing. We purchased the house in 1991 and are the 2nd owners. It has been continually and lovingly updated and improved since we bought it. The most recent additions were a brand new kitchen in the rental (2013) and a whole house generator (2015) so as not to be inconvenienced should we have a power outage.

Beautifully decorated, it was put together with a little bit of romance and a lot of comfort in mind. The 1326 square foot suite welcomes you with a bright and cheerful entry. Ample extras are intended to make your stay very special and memorable. We will stock the unit with groceries prior to your arrival at your request and for an additional fee.
It is intended to be a true home away from home, where you can enjoy a private experience in a perfect location on a beautiful property. Your hosts are immediately available should you need anything to make your stay more enjoyable.

We truly look forward to welcoming you as you plan your journey to Alaska. We are grateful that you are interested in staying at our vacation rental.

Moved to Alaska

I was moving to Anchorage and found Laura through VRBO. The place was great (really spacious and clean) and Laura has been an invaluable resource! The location is central, you can walk downtown to restaurants, the Weekend Market (summer), great bars, coastal trail access. It's reasonably priced for a cab if you need to travel further into the city, or an easy drive into town. I would absolutely recommend staying here, great space anyone!

First time in Alaska

Fantastic place. Just what we needed for our stay in Anchorage with our family of 5 adults. Laura made us feel so welcome, with homemade banana bread and wonderful breakfast foods. In addition, she added so many other nice touches to make us feel very comfortable. We loved visiting with both her and her sweet dog, Luka, but felt the freedom to come and go. We loved being able prepare our dinner after buying our seafood at the local market. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling to Anchorage. So much better than staying in a hotel.

Great place to stay while in Anchorage!!

Very clean, large rooms and furnished just like you would your home! It is a fully equipped two bedroom apartment. The proprietor, Laura, was a great hostess! Would definitely stay there again!

The Perfect Intro to Anchorage!

Exactly as described. Comfortable, clean, quiet and quaint. Thanks for a cozy and relaxed intro to anchorage. With downtown only 8 mins. away, situated in a quiet residential neighborhood we felt right at home and smiled every time we passed the swollen, cold, congested hotels of downtown.

Wonderful Stay!

This rental is so great!!! It is clean nicely decorated. The extras that Laura puts into it makes it even more special. I was so grateful when we arrived to see that breakfast was already provided for us.we got in late and was so happy that I wouldn't have to wake up early to run out for something to feed my little girl. We seriously has a hard time leaving doing our errands because the home is so comfy. I will for sure be visiting again.

The BEST!

Everything as advertised and much more!! Arrived after 1am to a kitchen full of foods, drinks, COFFEE and much more! Entering the very clean, nicely decorated and very spacious rooms put a smile on our all faces and a relaxed feeling of being home! The next morning we enjoyed a beautiful view of the sunrise over the mountains as well as a view of Anchorage. A very safe area and within a minute or two of a nice trail leading up a slight hill directly to downtown Anchorage - perfect for the start of the Iditarod!! We fell in love with Luka as much as the B&B and only wish we had planned more time in Anchorage. All the more reason to return and when we do - this is our Alaskan home!! Oh, and when one of us forgot an item, Laura graciously took the time to ship it home for us. She is a absolute doll, so friendly, fun, helpful, and full of information. A truly gracious hostess (and great artist too)!!

Clean, Spacious, Walking Distance to Downtown Anchorage

This B&B is all that it posts and more! We arrived around 1am in the morning from a late flight and all three of us were pleasantly surprised to find a fully stocked kitchen of foods, snacks, fruit, treats, drinks, yogurt, etc... waiting for us. The interior is clean and spacious and the bedrooms are at opposite ends of the hall offering privacy from one another. Every possible detail to attention has been met to ensure guests needs are met. It doesn't hurt either that the décor is cute, original and unique. Laura was available at our every need yet not imposing at all. We found her extremely helpful and friendly and fell in love with her pet. We especially enjoyed that we could either walk are take a minutes drive to reach downtown Anchorage or any of the nearby sites. Will definitely return when our travels take us to Anchorage again.

Christmas at A City View!

My mom, sister, daughter and I spent our Christmas this year at Lauras beautiful B&B. She met us in the wee hours of the morning with Luca and hosted us for Christmas dinner with her awesome sisters. We couldn't have felt more comfortable and welcome. We couldn't get dinner reservations for the next night so Laura called in and got them for us! The apartment was spotless and we had absolutely everything we could possible need. We will highly recommend Lauras for any of our friends and will, hopefully be back again! Thank you Laura for making this a very special Christmas for our family!

An Excellent B&B

It's truly an excellent B&B. Thanks Laura for letting us to stay at her beautiful house. Laura has been very friendly and helpful. She helped us arrange early check-in since our cruise ship arrived very early on that day (fortunately, in the end we didn't need to check-in early). The place is very nice, well-equipped. The bedroom, bathroom, kitchen...had everything we needed. We really enjoyed our stay at the B&B. It is also very close to Downtown, a few min of driving. We were particularly impressed that organic cereals were provided. I guess Laura must be quite health-conscious. Anyway, we enjoyed our stay at this place so much! Thank you Laura!

A Home Away From Home!

After traveling from Northern AK to Anchorage and staying at a variety of places including a Yurt at Chena Hot Springs, a Hostel in Denali, and another B&B in Talkeetna Laura's BEAUTIFUL home was by far the icing on the cake! Her home is very tastefully decorated including the wonderful art she created herself, and she was the perfect hostess! We enjoyed our first night so much there was little choice but to ask to stay another night. Despite the short notice Laura was more than happy to accommodate us. For any who wish to stay in Anchorage during their Alaskan travels I couldn't recommend a more beautiful and peaceful setting than the one provided here! Thanks for the wonderful memories Laura!

Great Home Base for Travel ..4 night stay

This B&B is more like an Apartment since it has own entrance and plenty of space that is very tastefully decorated and very clean . Laura is very personable, open and honest , with much local information to share if requested. We were a party of three. My wife and I and my 50 year old nephew used this rental as our "Home Base" as we first rested up here in Anchorage the first couple days after our flight from Texas. Then we set off for Denali NP , north of Anchorage for 3 days , came back here and stayed/rested , then headed south to Whittier ( to take the Glacier Cruise..very nice) , then Seward and Homer before returning to this very nice "Home Base" to again rest up and explore before flying out . Laura was the perfect host each time of our stay and the place was spotless and clean each time. The unit is in the basement area , which I had my doubts about when booking, but the the space gets natural light from windows in each room that .. so more like a split level basement. It was the best B&B experience we have had .. and 1000% better than any Motel you can get in the area for the summer. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to our next visit.

A fantastic and unforgettable place to stay in Anchorage!

My husband, sister-in-law, brother-in-law and I spent three unforgettable nights at A City View B&B. Laura was an outstanding hostess with the uncanny ability to understand her guests needs even before they ask. The suite was comfortable with room to stretch out after a day of sightseeing or shopping. The beds are of such a high quality you forget to miss your own bed at home! Laura's recommendations for places around town were excellent, taking us to locations we've never experienced despite numerous visits to Anchorage. The walk into town is enjoyable as you pass by Ship Creek and can watch the people fishing. We enjoyed meeting Laura's dog Luca, also. He is well behaved and you don't know he's there unless you meet him. We're all looking forward to a return visit to A City View B&B.

Great Place!

My wife and I stayed here for a couple of days with my parents while on vacation. It was a great place to stay - one of the cleanest and nicest VRBO places we have stayed at. Laura is an excellent hostess and we definitely would come back.

Must stay here!

If you spend the night in Anchorage, this is the place! Laura has taken care of every detail, it truly exceeded my expectations. Within walking distance of downtown, beautiful neighborhood with several parks, safe, quiet, really too good to describe. The breakfasts are deluxe, every room is perfectly decorated, well stocked, these accomodations provide superior comfort. This place is a real deal, this is one experience in Alaska that is a bargain. A City View deserves 10 stars!

Cozy and Beautiful!

My husband and I recently took my parents on a week long vacation to Alaska, something they have wanted to do for decades. I found Laura's listing on VRBO...our first VRBO rental I must add and were so impressed it will definitely make us think about doing it again! My husband travels for business and stays in some of the best hotels (I always tell him he is a bit spoiled), so every time we travel together he is hotel minded...and skeptical of vacation rentals. I found this rental and sold him on it based on the pictures and description. I have to say...it definitely lived up to both!!! Laura has done a beautiful job updating and furnishing the apartment. We were met the first morning with fresh baked (huge) blueberry muffins, cereals, bread, fresh coffee beans (grinder and 2 coffee makers), juice, milk, yogurt, waffles, etc. All you could eat and more! She even brought us fresh banana bread on our last day and we took the rest of the loaf with us on the rest of our trip! My husband and parents could not say enough about how beautiful the apartment was and how great a host Laura was! She gave us access to her laundry, made great restaurant and activity suggestions, introduced us to her lovely dog, and stopped to visit a few times just to make sure we had everything we needed. I am afraid that she may have spoiled us for other rentals, but we will definitely try it again. If I had to say anything negative, it would be that the couches in the living room were not terribly comfortable and 2 bathrooms would be awesome. Overall I would highly recommend staying with Laura when you are in Anchorage!

From the moment we arrived, we loved everything about this VBRO/B&B. Situated in the very quiet neighborhood of Government Hill with great views so close to downtown Anchorage, we felt we had arrived home. After a very friendly welcome from Laura, who we felt we already knew after phone calls while planning our trip, we settled in for our three night stay. We were two couples on a month long trip to the USA and loved the spacious layout provided. Everything was immaculate, we especially loved the comfortable beds and the special touches provided by our hostess, including the continental breakfasts. We were lucky to have beautiful weather during our stay in Alaska which enabled us to enjoy Joe and Laura's company in the private yard and BBQ on the long early summer evenings. (especially as our families back home were encountering an early season snow fall!!!!) Among the attractions we visited were the Native Cultural Center, Heritage Aviation Museum, Ulu Factory, a Float Plane trip with Rusty's and a performance of Mary Poppins which was showing during the time of our visit. Laura went the extra mile to make our stay in Anchorage memorable and we will never forget the hospitality extended to us by Laura, Joe and Luca, We hope you have a chance to visit New Zealand in the future. The greatest place to stay in town!

We had construction on our home and needed a place for our baby, dogs and family! This place is the greatest! Lots of room and amazing service! I would stay here a million times over again! We were so impressed with the quiet neighborhood and friendly peoole. Everyone waved and said hello. Our hostess was by far the friendliest person on earth, and beyond understanding of the situation! This place is spotless clean and roomier than any place you will ever stay in. This place is worth every little penny you will not be disappointed, it has a beautiful view of anchorage and sleeping lady moutain! You have to stay here!!!

Hostess with the mostess

On our 10th and final evening touring Alaska, our family of 4 rested our heads at A City View B&B. Laura is the most thoughtful and engaging host we have met through VRBO (users for years!). Her lovely suite has spacious accomodations, beautiful beddings, is tactfully decorated (well-traveled we note!) and is quiet and clean. Her garden adds that light touch we needed on our rainy visit! The location is great: just minutes from downtown and steps from the door are views of either downtown or the mountain ranges. We had a fabulous dinner at Ginger - creative seafood. Went for a nice long stroll along Tony Knowles Trail and ended our journey at the Anchorage Museum with lunch at Muse in the museum. No hesitation to fully endorse staying at A City View!

Great Find

A great find for our Alaska trip. The property was clean and well maintained. Well stocked breakfast foods and the homemade goodies were a nice welcome after a long day of flying. Beds were very comfortable. The location was in a nice neighborhood with a quick car trip to downtown and easy to navigate streets. Laura was very helpful in answering our questions and making suggestions. Certainly would recommend the Native Heritage Museum - with live performances and presentations by Alaskans. The Anchorage Museum also has a fabulous Smithsonian display of Alaskan eskimo cultures and a nice restaurant. Positively would recommend this VRBO/B&B.

Northstar

My two friends and I, plus my little dog, arrived at A City View rental suite on June 30 and stayed until July 3. The listing description & photos are accurate - the suite was clean and well-appointed. A big fridge, gas stove, separate dining room, living room with huge comfy couches and a good TV. Two bedrooms with big comfortable beds, dressers, lots of closet space. Lots of nice personal touches, artwork, cosy throws and pillows. A beautiful side yard, very quiet and private. I would stay again and recommend highly to anyone else. The owner Laura was welcoming and gracious, and gave us good tips for shopping and restaurants. In one direction, a nice little park for dog walking with a beautiful view over to the mountain ranges and Sleeping Lady and in the other, a view overlooking the city. Easy to find, and very easy to navigate around the City. Close to the Zoo, neighbourhood restaurants, also close to downtown and tourist attractions. Recommend Glacier Brewhouse for great seafood.

Ditch the hotels and stay here!

My wife, mother and I traveled to Anchorage for one week to watch the ECHL Conference Finals (Go Wranglers!!!) and visit some trophy shops on business matters. Arriving close to midnight and having only been to Anchorage once before, the house was easy to find and Laura left the lights on for us. The place is beautifully decorated and had a very warm and inviting feel. Although it is a basement rental (if you have mobility issues, be aware the stairway has 10 steps) we found it to be well lit as every room has windows. It was clean and quiet, the beds were comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed. Laura provided the continental breakfast including 3 types of cereal, milk, fruit, apple juice, coffee, creamer and cinnamon bread and waffles. Since we were staying a week we hit the supermarket so we could make lunches and dinners as well. Laura checked with us often to make sure everything was to our liking, offered to hold our luggage into the evening as we had a late departure, and even called to let us know when the local moose was roaming the neighborhood! Having stayed in VRBO's in Hawaii and Rome we found this home and Laura's hospitality to be nothing short of "Top Notch". If I return to Anchorage I would absolutely stay here again. Do yourself a favor, ditch the hotels and stay here too!

This place is amazing place to stay, we can't even begin to list all the wonderful things our hostess Laura accommodated us with during our stay. The facility is very beautifully decorated and has a very welcoming feel. The views are amazing of the city, the Mt. Range, and the bay from this B&B! The location is easy accessible to everything in Anchorage. Great family orientated neighborhood. This place is the only place to stay when visiting Anchorage! Laura was the best, I got to the airport and realized I had forgotten my glasses. I called her and she brought them to me at the airport before my flight took off! Thank you so much! The continental breakfast every morning and the fresh baked banana bread was great too! We will be returning for a second trip in June and we can't wait! This place is wonderful. The photos of this place are right on too in the listing no surprises!
