About this property
Enchanting 4-bedroom Languedoc house. Perfect for families, runners, cyclists.
Nestled in the heart of a quiet, picturesque village in the foothills of the French Pyrenées, this four-bed village house will seduce any francophile. Retaining all its traditional Gallic charm, the house -- previously a small hotel and a café -- has been sensitivley and charmingly renovated. It now offers four spacious bedrooms, a large sitting-room, a spacious and serene study, and the heart of the home: a lovely French kitchen with a long (original) table to accommodate groups intent on sampling local produce. The house has plentiful hot water, and for colder evenings a wood-burning stove and electric heatersSurrounded by green hills, 5KM from a beautiful motorised-traffic-free swimming lake, and 45 minutes from the Pyrenées, the Ancien Hotel is perfect for cyclists, walkers, runners, or anyone needing R&R in a quiet and welcoming village in the foothills of the mountains. There is a small terrace, perfect for an evening apéritif or two.

About the host
Your host

I'm a British author and discovered Rivel when I came to write a book here. I then bought the Ancien Hotel and have spent 15 years renovating it as charmingly as I can, while preserving its long and interesting history. I'm a runner and cyclist and swimmer and Rivel is perfect for anyone wanting to be active: there's am 80km long flattish converted railway line, the Voie Verte, 1km away from the house, plus cols and mountains and safe roads for cyclists.
Why they chose this property
The village is friendly, serene, and surrounded by gorgeous nature. There are two swimming lakes nearby, each different and each delightful. In the summer, the lakes have cafes and amenities; and the village comes alive.
What makes this property unique
My house has 300 years of history as a hotel and café. I have kept signs of this in the house as best I can, while making sure the house is comfortable for modern living. You will find the odd bar towel or old advertising sign, but also spacious and charming rooms to relax in.
