About this property

Boxley Valley Farmstay On The Beautiful Buffalo River

Our 100-year-old farmhouse has been lovingly renovated and will accommodate 6 guests. The farmhouse retains its character through its screen doors, heart-pine wood floors, period furnishings, and wood stove. Interior furnishings were chosen to provide the plain and simple comforts of the early 20th Century.

The back porch rockers afford practically the same view today as they have for one hundred years. The house, old barn and outbuildings create a setting for you to not just see the valley, but actually be a part of it.

You can be as active as you wish—or as inactive. Watch the sun wake up the valley, experience the amazing vistas of a light-free night sky, hike the many trails along the Buffalo River. Canoe, fish, cook, read, visit, explore or just laze around. This farmstay offers many ways for you to enjoy the Upper Buffalo River and the woodlands, pastures, streams, and bluffs that make up the historic Boxley Valley.

Accommodations include two bedrooms upstairs with a full bath and one bedroom downstairs with attached full bath. Common rooms include a sitting room upstairs, a living room downstairs, an eat-in kitchen, and two covered porches.

James Larkin Villines and his wife, Eliza, who built the home, did without electricity or running water until 1942; now, however, guests can enjoy central heat and air, telephone, and wifi.

We require advanced notice of at least 48 hours.

Nice Stay Near Hemmed-In Hollow

The house was charming and clean, and the hosts made sure we got in ok and had everything we needed. TIP: If using Google Maps use the address with AR, not Ar. They are two different locations. Also, download your route, the cell service is spotty.

The Boxley Farmstay was a wonderful getaway for our family. It was relaxing, quiet and scenic. We enjoyed floating down the beautiful Buffalo River and also sitting on the backporch reading and enjoying the scenery. Would love to return! Thank you!

Sweet Farmhouse

This was my second stay at the farmhouse and It was just as great as before. They have a Lovely Mule in the enclosure next to the house and we fell in love with him. The house is very nice and clean and the kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils and pots and pans. We were unable to get the gas grill to work, but other than that, it was PERFECT!!!

Great Location

We really enjoyed staying here. The house was precious and well stocked. The location was absolutely perfect since we came to see the elk. We were able to make our coffee and sweet tea and walk right out the door to see the wildlife. We will be back. Thank you!

Solar Eclipse Trip

We stayed in beautiful Boxley Valley for the April 8th solar eclipse event. The farmhouse is charming! We had plenty of room and loved exploring the property and the general area. There were dozens of goldfinches and bluebirds hanging around. We heard owls at dusk and watched the cows meander from one pasture to another. It was just magical - loved every moment of it. Our host Maggie was always very responsive with any questions I had. I would totally recommend staying here.

Homey and quaint

This place is a gem. I almost hate to let the secret out but the owners deserve all the business they can get. The location and atmosphere is fabulous if you enjoy the countryside and a bit of old fashioned charm. Checkin was completely effortless. The river access was great and is a huge bonus. We’ll definitely be back.

perfect spot in the valley

Wonderful time at the historic farmhouse, honey pine floors, wainscotting, wall paper, iron beds, enamel sinks. all the best things of a simpler time. Here for 6 days and never even tried to turn on the tv, perfect spot to relax, enjoy the beauty that surrounds you and commune with the Lord. Wonderful collection of nature and Arkansas history books.

Canoe trip

We stayed at the farmhouse on a ladies' canoe trip down the Buffalo River. It was a perfect getaway. We enjoyed swimming in the spring-fed cold hole, sitting on the back porch rockers, and soaking up the peaceful tranquility. Beds were comfortable, a/c worked great, and the kitchen was well equipped.

Nice

Property was nice and well kept. We shared it with a little kitchen mouse that came to visit. Disappointed in having to pay a cleaning and service fee that added 27% to my bill. I have not seen these add-on charges in other places I have stayed. Not certain we will do this again.

So Peaceful!

The farmhouse was amazing! We loved the history of the house. We had so much fun exploring the property! We saw the eagle at the Cold Hole! The porches were a dream come true! Sitting on the back porch in the morning and the front porch in the evening. So relaxing! We returned home so rested and restored.

Nature and history lovers getaway

My husband and I stayed for a getaway. The location of the farm is nothing short of amazing. We enjoyed the "cold hole" immensely. The house itself has charm for days-original floors, windows. Spacious kitchen and bedrooms. We loved sitting on back porch, watching the bulls in adjoining pastures. We ventured up to the log cabin that also belongs to owners...what a treat!

Boxley Valley's finest!

The Jimmy Creek Farmstay exceeded our expectations. We spent 3 nights there and it was like stepping back in time. The farmhouse had all the charm of an old homestead with modern comforts. It was amazingly clean and very well decorated. We look forward to staying there again. It was by far the best place we've stayed in the area. It has the charm that is really hard to manufacture with modern construction. Beautiful place! The Holmes Family

Peaceful farmhouse

This house is cozy. We felt like we came to grandmas. Everything we needed was supplied. The big back porch with four rocking chairs were perfect! Our morning coffee was spent out there as was our evening wine. The steers came out to greet us at the fence. We could hear the Elk. The bluebirds were plentiful. Just a peaceful beautiful weekend. It’s the top pick out of our 10 trips we’ve been on together.

Great Location for Exploring the Buffalo River

This property was perfect for 2 couples spending a long weekend exploring the nearby Buffalo River National Park and its hiking trails. The house is just as advertised and very quaint! The flowered wallpaper in the sitting room and the rocking chairs on the porch reminded all of us of our childhood visits with our grandparents. Yet, the modern kitchen with all its amenities, the very nice en-suite master bedroom and the super fast and reliable WiFi kept us firmly rooted in the 21st century. Because we were 2 adult couples traveling together, we especially enjoyed the privacy we had with the en-suite master bedroom located on the ground floor and the other bedrooms and a separate toilet and shower upstairs. Tons of room to spread out! Maggie is an excellent host and responded to our queries promptly and thoroughly and the check-in process was a breeze. We highly recommend Boxley Valley Farmstay for your next Arkansas getaway.

Paradise in Boxley

This is a little gem of a fully restored farmhouse in the Boxley Valley near the Buffalo National River. We lived in this area 50 years ago just as the park was established. This visit was a reunion with friends I had not seen in almost 50 years. The farmhouse was perfect. We swam in the Cold Hole and were graced by a bald eagle looking on. We will be back!

Fathers Day

Quiet, peaceful. A little hiking, fishing, animal watching (eaglet, elk, deer, hogs, bulls, rabbits), porch sitting, swimming, napping. Gazed at stars and fireflies. Listened to the rain. Drive to Harrison for dinners so I didn’t have to cook or clean it up❤️. This was our second trip. Great way to disconnect. Love this little house to escape to.

The house was great.

The owner is a very nice person. She wants ever thing to be right. The wifi was not working. When I contacted her, she call the tect support person and, we got it working. I can't say enough about the owner. We loved sitting on back porch in rockers and, going to watch the Elk.

Amazing house and location

We loved the house. It was so charming and cozy. We especially enjoyed the back porch in the mornings and evenings. The location an view is calm and peaceful. The cold hole was amazing! We were disappointed with a few issues: when we sat down at the kitchen table to eat, it was covered with ants. There was a very dirty runner on the table that was stained and full of crumbs and dried food. We found ant spray in the closet so we cleaned the table, wiping away the crumbs and ants, and sprayed the table legs with ant spray. There were also spiders and spiderwebs in the bathtub which I had to clean out before i could use it. Lastly, the grill was caked with food chunks (which we cleaned) and would not flame and heat as it should. Overall, we loved the house but, considering the cost for the weekend, expected to have fewer issues than we did.

Awesome location! Terrific owners

Our family normally rents log/rustic-looking homes for hiking trips so this was a bit different for us. The farmhouse is quite lovely. Plenty of room for our family of five w/ three college kids. Gorgeous view & peaceful location, but note that it is near a two-lane black-top road. If you're interested in hiking or canoeing/rafting the Buffalo River, this is the perfect location. It was literally 1 to 5 miles to all of the trail heads we had researched. Beautiful waterfalls at Lost Valley- plus an exciting cave walk to an interior waterfall. FULL day hike to Hemmed in Hollow waterfall and Goat Trail (an exhilarating cliff view) was amazing. We trekked 7 hours in a light snowfall over spring break! River water was too cold on our trip for canoeing or rafting, but we'll do that next time. The herd of elk was easily visible every single day within a half mile of the farmhouse. One evening, a few came on the property! Perhaps best of all was the gracious hospitality and professionalism of the owner family. We happened to rent the place when some mice had scurried into the kitchen and died so there was a foul odor the first evening we arrived. Mr. Ferguson, the patriarch of the family, came by immediately to check it out. He and his daughter, Francie, had people at the farmhouse first thing the next morning to address the issue. Francie was a complete delight and made sure we were happy. She even took us on a drive to show us a couple of nearby fishing spots. That kind of situation could happen at any home that is out in the countryside. Not every owner would have handled it as quickly and graciously. We'd highly recommend this place and would enjoy going back in the summer months to enjoy the river activities. The only recommendation I'd have is to add a fire pit in the back. My family loves sitting by a fire in the evenings, making s'mores so we missed that.
