About this property

Waterfront pet-friendly cottage at Lake Lure - walk to the beach!

Welcome to Lakewhisper! Experience the charm & serenity of this quaint, pet-friendly, waterfront home! You'll be on the water yet off the beaten path, communing with nature, but walking distance to town. Enjoy stunning views of Chimney Rock in all her glory & watch throughout the days as she shows her many sides. From bright & sunny to foggy & gray, you'll be enchanted by this amazing view. Best of all is the secret tree-lined canal that connects your private lagoon to the river and the lake!

This 1940's gem has been lovingly maintained, keeping all of its character but with today's functionality. From the smart TVs to the central air to the renovated kitchen to the dock and floater for launching the included canoe and kayaks into the lagoon, you'll be charmed from the moment you arrive.

We welcome well-behaved pups at our home, with payment of the nonrefundable pet fee of $125 as part of your booking. You may bring up to 2 pups per booking.

In the living room you'll find a beautiful stone hearth, comfy seating for everyone in your party, and a bookshelf full of vacation reads and games for the whole family. The smart TV has Spectrum cable, and you can also log in to your preferred streaming services.

The master bedroom has a super comfy king-sized bed, and a brand new closet / vanity area with plenty of space for your belongings. The smart TV has Spectrum cable and available streaming services.

In the queen room, you'll find another comfy bed, nightstands to hold all your odds and ends, and another smart TV with Spectrum cable and streaming services. Best of all is the spectacular view of Chimney Rock from the large windows.

The third bedroom has a single daybed for day dreaming or night sleeping. Special touches like the vintage garden bench side table and vintage life jacket decor make this an adorable and cozy space.

The bathroom has been fully renovated and is cute as a button. We have included some extras such as shower gel, a first aid kit and a hairdryer. There are custom shelves built in to all the nooks and crannies to maximize the storage of this small but mighty space.

In the kitchen you'll find another recent renovation with the addition of a wall of pantry shelves with glass doors, an island for additional prep space, and a bar ledge for perching at the window. We have stocked the kitchen with everything you could wish for and more - crockpot? check! blender? check! salad spinner? check! lemon squeezer? check! Feel free to use any dry goods and condiments you find in the pantry and fridge, and leave behind any that you want to share with future guests when you depart. You've got a super cute vintage dining set at which to enjoy your meals, or you can choose to dine al fresco at the table on the back deck.

Attached to the kitchen is the laundry area, with a full-sized washer and dryer. In the utility closet you'll find the vacuum cleaner, broom, and other cleaning supplies. It won't hurt our feelings if you want to do a little extra dusting while you're there.

Head out the back door to the covered deck to enjoy some fresh air, grill up some burgers, and stare at Chimney Rock while you contemplate life. One of our favorite things about this home is watching the mountain throughout the day and how it changes as the sun travels across the sky. It is just as beautiful on sunny days as it is on rainy days. And sometimes, it's so foggy you can't even tell there is a mountain there at all! The Chimney Rock flag is a constant sentinel, and at night you can see the lights of the cars zig-zagging down the switchbacks of the park's access road.

Chimney Rock is not the only gorgeous thing to look at out back, though. You'll also enjoy gazing upon the lagoon and all the wildlife that call this area home. We often see fish, turtles, herons, hawks, eagles, deer, beavers, and every once in a while, a bobcat!

Enjoy exploring the lagoon and canal, which connect to the river and the lake, by launching the included canoe or kayaks from the dock. Don't forget to have a life jacket for each person in the boat with you.

The life jackets and other outdoorsy type stuff, including firewood, are found under the back deck in the newly graveled area there. That area, along with the other gravel pathways around the home, were installed in 2023. It's a special river rock that is tumbled smooth so you can walk on it barefoot.

This home is walking distance to all that "downtown" Lake Lure and Chimney Rock Village have to offer. (**Please note that Chimney Rock State Park is not accessible on foot**) We are super close to the Flowering Bridge, and if you walk across it towards Lake Lure, you'll be at Morse Park, the marina, and the swimming beach all within a mile. Or you can head the other direction up the hill and be in Chimney Rock Village within a mile, too. Don't miss the Riverwalk there - strolling along the Broad River is very soul-soothing and restorative. Reward yourself for walking up the hill by enjoying a cold beverage at the brewery overlooking the river, or have a scoop of ice cream, or even some delicious BBQ. There are lots of shops and restaurants to choose from, and because parking can be tough in Chimney Rock Village, you're generally better off on foot.

You will also be just a couple minutes' drive to a great hiking spot at the Chimney Rock Rumbling Bald Climbing Access park. This part of the Chimney Rock park system has no admission fee, and the 1.5 mile nature loop includes views of Lake Lure, a creek for salamander hunting, and lots of boulders strewn about for climbing and scrambling.

We have plenty of parking in our paved driveway for up to 4 cars. You'll have to navigate a small set of stairs to get from the parking area to the front porch. Once you're in the house, you're all on one level unless you choose to go down the back staircase into the yard. If you can't manage a full set of stairs, you can go out the front door where there is only one step and follow the gravel path to get to the back yard.

Our neighbors are all super nice, but we ask that you abide by our quiet hours of 10pm - 9am.

Thank you so much for your interest in Lakewhisper - we look forward to hosting you!!

Hey there - I'm Holly, and I've been doing short-term vacation rentals at my own properties for almost 20 years. I started on VRBO in 2006, but have mostly been using Airbnb, where I'm a Superhost and my house is a Guest Favorite, for the last 10 years. Glad to get back to my roots on VRBO!

Why they chose this property

This spot at Lake Lure, being right on the lagoon and with a full view of Chimney Rock, is my idea of heaven. I love all the wildlife you can see from the back deck, and I love watching the side of the mountain as the weather changes and as the sun travels across the sky each day. It's truly my happy place!

What makes this property unique

Take a little paddle in one of the kayaks down the canal to the river, and you'll see what I mean. It's the loveliest and most peaceful dose of nature. I always see something new, whether that's a cheeky beaver, a big turtle, the goose posse, or various and sundry birds. And the frog chorus at night is amazing!
