About this property

Cape Cod Cottage, Short Walk to Wequaquet Lake Private Beach and Cranberry Bogs

Welcome to Cranberry Hollow Cottage, A three bedroom, two bath cottage on an acre of land just steps from our private beach on an east-side Wequaquet Lake cove that gives you sun all day and photo-worthy, spectacular sunsets.

This recently updated 1100 sq ft family cottage in Centerville, MA gives you a taste of everything that we love about Cape Cod. It was originally built in the 1940s and has a newly renovated kitchen, bathrooms, mudroom and updated bedrooms and living areas and a large Weber gas grill and dining area outside the back door.

The house is in a neighborhood known for walkers, friendly faces walking dogs, pushing baby carriages or simply exercising in the fresh air.

In addition to a deeded rights to a neighborhood private beach, a unique feature we offer with this house is access to a walking trail around cranberry bogs. Follow the short woodland trail out the back of the property to a cranberry bog with a dirt road that takes you around two functional bogs full of growing cranberries.

Then grab your beach towels and walk down the street for a quick dip in a lake or spend the day on the beaches along a pretty little cove via our deeded beach rights. No need to pack a car, just a short walk from the front door. (We love to spend mornings at the ocean and finish the day on the lake, the best of both worlds are nearby!)

Have a boat on a trailer? Cranberry Hollow is less than a mile from the public boat landing on Wequaquet Lake. Wequaquet is known for almost year-round bass fishing, and in the warm weather, sailboats and power boats share the lake. Jet skis are not permitted to be launched from the public landing unless they are kept by lakefront owners.

This property is located halfway between North Side and South Side Cape Cod public ocean beaches. The famous "Southside" beach on Nantucket Sound, Craigville Beach, is less than 15 minutes away and the beautiful "Northside" Sandy Neck beach on Sandy Neck Conservation area is 20 minutes away. Hop on the MidCape Highway and you are one hour from the stunning beaches at the Cape Cod National Seashore.

There are movie theaters and mini-golf and ice creams shops and harbor tours and whale watches all within driving distance. We are right in the MIDDLE of Cape Cod and ready to host your best vacation, ever!

Its just two miles to major grocery stores, and another mile to the Cape Cod Mall, Target etc. We are 10 minutes from bars and restaurants of Main Street, Hyannis and the commercial fishing and ferry docks in Hyannis.

We will take bookings year-round our first year. Consider the fall when our whole area fills with colors, cranberries are harvested in mid to late October and as we approach fall the bog begins to display the colors of the red berries.

Had a great stay
Everything about this place was perfect, from location to the hosts. Janet and jp went above and beyond and we cant thank them enough. They have literally thought of everything in this house! They have done a great job with renovations and it was neat to see the before pictures. Walking around the cranberry bog was very nice, it would be cool to see it during the harvest! The location is perfect. You have the best of both worlds, a beautiful lake steps away and the ocean and tons of things to do minutes away. We are so grateful that we were able to have our dogs with us and have one last family vacation with one of them. We hated to leave and cant wait to come back!

About the host

Hosted by Janet and JP

Host profile image
JP is a life-long Cape Codder who grew up in this cottage. Janet is a native MA resident who spent time between a lake on the Cape and a Beach on the South Shore. We love Cape Cod life. We treasure the wildlife that surrounds us, identifying birds by sight and sound, getting excited about spotting a deer or raccoon on the cranberry bog, curiously studying marine life and insects with apps and books. We raised our children here with that curiosity.
We have boats on the lake, and spend time on the ocean beaches and hiking trails. We love dogs, have three rescued border collies now and have loved a many dogs through the years.
Janet was a travel agent early on and JP was a Boston construction tradesman for 30 yrs traveling between Cape Cod and the city. We have renovated our own house and now this family cottage.
We raised our two daughters here in the town of Barnstable, both are now grown and living in exotic places, one is a natural scientist, PhD who was nurtured on the nature of the Cape, and the other is a translator who learned to appreciate the multicultural population here.
We are excited about sharing this cottage with you.

Why they chose this property

This was a family home. JP grew up here. His father bought this place in the 50s and it was added on to as his family grew. His father died in 2019, and five years later we purchased it from his three siblings. We will eventually retire to this property, but for now we will stay in our home in another part of Centerville and share this cottage with visitors.

What makes this property unique

We have almost an acre of land, and most of it is not landscaped, it is left natural and full of wildlife and naturally grown grapes and red raspberries. We have a great relationship with the owner of the cranberry bogs that surround our property and have created a trail out the back of the property to the bogs. We have deeded beach rights to the beaches on the cove a short walk from the cottage. Sit outside in the evening in front of the house and hear the bullfrogs and sit in the backyard in the morning and hear the symphony of birds songs. The property sits in the center of the Miid-Cape making all of Cape Cod accessible.
