3 Nights in the Museum

The best part of staying at Ardenwald was meeting the owner and host Julie. She went out of her way to welcome ( walking out to the corner waving a flashlight on a very stormy and wet night ) TO MAKING SURE our harrowing 10 hour drive south from Vancouver down the clogged artery called I-5 was washed away by a choice of French wine of Don Julia Tequila. I was most impressed , that was a first as a traveller and a fellow vacation rental owner. The place is a renovated 1890's church located in Selwood a funky neighbourhood close to cycle trails, rapid light rail, bus and shops. Access is through a antique wooden door into a private gated yard shared by 2 rental spaces, shaded and loaded with so many cool things to see, like the large twin hippo fountains that look real, bbq area, places to leave your bikes. The suite itself is huge, loaded with an eclectic mix of art, antiques and Moroccan artifacts. Loved the tiled stairs. She has spared no expense in providing her guests with comfort. I really liked the tiled shower. Lots of history within and without. Although we were there to do the 4T trail and cycle Springwater track - a bonus was following the suggestions Julie gave us in her recommendations: The Speakeasy for cocktails, the whole foods store nearby, Bert and Lous for breakfast and one we found ourselves called Central Bakery. The coffee is great and the tea place next door even better. Plus a Columbia Outlet store by itself hidden behind an antique store and Higgins Boiled Bagels. Driving around was easy - no traffic jams. Cycling was even better. I did make one suggestion and Julie plans to follow this up - forced air duct needs a hepa filter to stop any allergens blowing from outside or upstairs. We were there during heavy pollen time and got itchy eyes initially. However the place gave us quiet comfortable sleeps and that was the most important part. Thank you Julie for your graciousness as a host and sharing your home d'art with us.

Great hosts. Interesting funky home with a dreamy garden.

Julie and Ron are charming hosts. Their home is a magical warren of rooms and surprises await around every corner. The garden is whimsical and magical and there are many spots to sit and read/drink/chat/sleep outside. Julie gave us suggestions about where to go and is a delight. It’s like stepping into an alternate universe. Thank you Julie and Ron for a magical stay!!

The property was fabulous! loved the decor and feeling of security

There are 3 properties in one here, mine was the basement which was always cool. The space itself gives you an immediate desire to study the history of the place and the décor drives you deeper. I also have to mention the host Jules, who feels like family from the moment she smiles is warm and inviting, a complete joy. Just a true breath of fresh air to visit here with all of the typical Portland tourist places in a short distance.

We had a wonderful time staying at this property.

The character of this amazing Oasis was by far the most intriguing of any vacation rental we have ever stayed. The grounds are lush and decorated very eclectically. If you are looking for modern amenities, this is probably not for you. But if you are looking for a unique and very comfortable space in which to share time with family or friends, the Oasis is fantastic! We LOVED it!!!

Delightful

Very nice apartment if you are looking for a quiet place to stay just outside of downtown Portland. The hosts are outstanding. My girlfriend and I had our flight delayed 10 hours and Julie offered to have champagne waiting for us once we arrived. We could not have been more pleased with our stay here!

Unique church rental

The rental is the basement of a former church. It has a truly funky feel and lots of space. It did have a strong aroma of incense which takes some getting used to.

Our 4 Portland Days

We enjoyed staying at the Oasis very much! The Moroccan decor and antiques were unbelievable! Also, the place was cozy and well supplied with all the necessities. There was even coffee, tea, fresh roses, and chocolates. The house is an easy walk to the MAX for getting in to downtown without driving. There is also a beautiful walking/biking trail 2 blocks away. The neighborhood is pleasant and quiet. Jules and Ron are gracious hosts. We would gladly stay here again.

An Unusual Place That Has Everything

This beautiful location is certainly unforgettable. A lovely courtyard. A historic location with regal furniture to match. Large and private with everything you could want - internet, television, a kitchen, great shower. The host even welcomed me with fruit, chocolate and coffee. I would absolutely stay here again.

This is my first review of anything! We stayed at this property for a family reunion and it has been beautifully restored. The owner could not have been more friendly and helpful. We stayed in unit 3 which was the basement of the church. It was a huge area and wonderfully decorated with items the owner has brought back from her many years in Morocco. The grounds are just like a park with ferns and trees and fountains and sitting areas. Also a large fire pit area with comfortable seating. I would stay here again, but next time I might try for unit 1 which is the apartment on the main floor of what used to be the parsonage. And even though I haven't been inside that unit and it is smaller, I think because it gets more natural lighting from windows that it would be fun to try. We only stayed 2 nights and did not do anything besides family reunion things, but for someone who wants to sight see in the Portland area this is a great place to stay!
