Wonderful house
My coworkers and I had an excellent weeklong stay while on a work trip. The host communicated well and made check in easy. The property caretaker is friendly and helpful. The house is large and very comfortable and we had no issues during our stay! We hope to return.

Great House & Location
This is an immaculately maintained old New England house. The location is beautiful. The appliances and plumbing are modern and the beds are comfortable. The internet connection was fine for our needs. In my 15 years of experience renting with VRBO, this owner was exceptionally hands-on.

Beautiful Home
We stayed in this beautiful estate home for a week. It is like going back in time to a house originally built in the late 1700's. It's less than 15 miles from Lime Rock Park Track and is perfect for a large group. The ONLY complaint we have is no air conditioning and the internet was not very good- and cell service is almost non-existent. But if you want to get "off the grid" this is a beautiful home, well appointed, the kitchen is fully stocked, the home is on 30 acres, and plenty of parking.

Sharon Ct Relaxing Family Summer Vacation
Fun vacation if you like to relax. We enjoyed swimming at local beach with our grand daughter as well as hiking in area. Well appointed house with outdoor Bar-b-que. Nights were cool so not having AC wasn't a problem. Everyone shared the one shower but the top floor bathroom was handy with tub as well as the powder room on first floor. House was clean and caretaker was helpful. Loved going out to dinner at Le Gamin in town of Sharon.

Nice quiet place to relax and spend time with family
Property owner was very interested in every aspect of our stay, starting the week before we arrived and a couple times we were there. We were not able to meet in person, but shared several phone conversations. There is a caretaker on the property who was very helpful and available any time if things were needed.

Elegant home in Sharon, CT
This is a lovely family home, filled with historic charm and modern amenities due to a major renovation. The house and furnishings are immaculate and elegant. The host lives here periodically, so expect more communications regarding your stay. She clearly cares about the house, as she should. There is an in-residence caretaker who lives in an apartment off the kitchen (he has his own entrance and facilities, so he doesn't enter the rental.) He was discreet to the point of near invisibility, yet helpful and available when we sought him out. The host maintains her own private bedroom suite in the main rental house (not included in the rental), but she was not in residence during our rental, nor can I imagine she will be there during yours. She is quite pleasant. There are two outdoor patios, a lovely front porch, plus a fire pit in the yard. We spent most of our evenings out on the spacious main patio, where there is also a gas grill. We rented the house for a family reunion and it was great to have so many spaces to share together. The house is on a very quiet dirt road, but not far from a main road. There is some intermittent road noise in the distance that you can hear if you have your windows open. You'll also get to hear Canadian geese on a lake somewhere and the occasional coyote. The air was fresh and invigorating thanks to all the surrounding forestland / Audubon sanctuary. The house does not have air conditioning. We rented in August and were lucky to have a cool week, but I'm told that even in hot weather there is reasonable air flow due to the elevation. The house does have fans and/or ceiling fans in each bedroom, but we hardly used them. There are three nicely updated bathrooms, but only one has a true shower. The top floor bathroom has a tub with a hand-held shower wand, not ideal for most. We managed just fine, but it is useful to know this in advance. The bedrooms were a little confusing on the listing due to an old photo. The 2nd floor has three bedrooms, two with a queen and one with two smallish twin beds. The 3rd floor has two bedrooms, one with a king and twin and one with two twins. We comfortably slept 10. The kitchen is well equipped and the owner generously lets you use her cooking spices. The kitchen has a very functional layout. All in all, this is a lovely, well-maintained home. It felt familiar and inviting to us. We certainly hope to return again.

Everything and more!!!
Absolute perfect home in the perfect location. My only wish is we get to stay a few weeks later so we can see the incredible garden in full bloom. The home is lovely and you can tell immediately of the rich history of its owners. Thank you for your kind hospitality. We look forward to coming back very soon!!!!

Nice house, great location, easy rental
This is a nice old house just a few minutes outside of Sharon center. Caretakers live on site and are very friendly. They do their best to leave renters alone except when needed. Our only comment is that the owner was concerned about us bringing kids and furnished a long list of house rules and things not to touch. We have certainly stayed in nicer rentals and never really been given such a list. This part was a little off-putting. Personally, if I were so concerned about my things, I would either not rent the house or remove those items. Nevertheless, the weekend went off without a hitch. Coordination with owners/ caretakers was easy. What little time we spent on the property was enjoyable. We would come back and we would recommend to others.

Beautiful!
The house was beautiful and well equipped for our family. The caretakers live in guest quarters right next to the house and you can hear them when you are in the kitchen. They were very nice. Beside that this house is a great find!

Relaxing Weekend for a Family of Five
We loved our stay at Fair Rising! The house is a charming old farmhouse but we were pleased to find it has been impeccably maintained and is spotlessly clean. The house is great for families - there is even a charming little bedroom with a cozy play nook. The caretakers were lovely and helpful - especially when we city slickers could not figure out the flue on the fireplace! The house is well situated near Sharon Green yet very private and up a quaint dirt road. We would recommend this house for anyone looking for a quiet, relaxed getaway with their family.

Beautiful Home, Relaxing Stay
My husband have spent two weekends at this beautiful home in Sharon. Both times we came away relaxed, happy, and reluctant to leave. We spent much of the first weekend outside, hiking in the nearby Audubon Reserve and a 30 minute drive away in Hidden Valley. We spent much of the second weekend reading in front of the splendid fireplace in the family room! All of the rooms in the house are elegant yet comfortable. The bedrooms are charming. We chose a bedroom at the top of house and it felt like being in our own little hideaway. The kitchen has everything you need, and more. The grounds are large and peaceful and we look forward to going back in the summer or fall to see them in fuller bloom. A lovely place.

Beautiful Setting for a Relaxing Weekend
The house and property were perfect in every way. Large spacious house was perfect for our group with a number of bedrooms. Library with fireplace was such a great room to spend time in during the day with a beautiful wood burning fireplace to sit in front of. Great hosts made everything simple and easy for us, our arrival and departure were seamless.

About the host

Host profile image
We purchased our home in Sharon when our children were young. We bought at an auspicious time, as we were able to afford an estate that had only been in two other families, with a 17th century home and much land in a sleepy little New England town. We enjoyed fixing it up over the years and keeping it's historical charm. The area was also a draw for artists, which both my husband and I are, he was an acclaimed photographer, and I am a singer. We have continued to maintain an apartment in NYC, but prize our Sharon home for family reunions with our grandchildren, and the beautiful gardens I cultivate.

Why they chose this property

The area is a convenient jumping-off point for exploring a rich variety of arts activities and outdoor sports opportunities. Other favorite activities include antiquing, dining, and going to art galleries and summer music festivals. The area is now active all year round and doesn't die down after the summer residents depart. And best of all, it is an easy and pleasant drive or train ride from New York or Boston.

What makes this property unique

+lounging in the library before a crackling fire
+sitting on the side porch and looking at the birds
+drinks on the flagstone terrace, watching the sunset
+breakfast on the patio surrounded by flowers
+handicap accessible and pet friendly
+very close to 5 private schools including Salisbury, Berkshire, Millbrook, Hotchkiss, Kent
+Much to see and do: Tanglewood, Sharon Tri-arts, Cascade Winery, Sharon Audubon / raptor centers, chamber music, skiing, fishing, music festivals and much more,
