About this property
Spacious 2+ Bdrm, 2 Ba Home With Stunning View, 4 wk min, mostly spring and fall
Our spacious, comfortable home is in San Rafael, just north of the the Golden Gate Bridge, on a peninsula that extends into the Bay, with easy access to San Francisco, Berkeley, the Sonoma and Napa wine country, and the beautiful Pacific Coast.
This is a great place to live, work, and play. There's a well-stocked supermarket within walking distance and a twice-weekly farmer’s market a short drive away, along with all the specialty shops and restaurants of Marin County. Golf courses, tennis courts, and hiking and biking trails are close by. We're near Dominican College and only a bridge away from the University of California campuses in Berkeley and San Francisco.
Our area offers a wide range of arts—music, dance, theatre, galleries—along with some of the best outdoor activities available anywhere. We're only a few minutes from China Camp State Park and a short drive from Mt. Tamalpais, Muir Woods, and the Pt. Reyes National Seashore.
Whether you're traveling to explore Northern California or looking for someplace quiet, comfortable, and peaceful while you're relocating or visiting family, you'll love our home. It's bright and spacious, with a large living/dining room, a modern, fully equipped open kitchen with a seating area, and a sunroom that is the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee. The windows and sliding glass doors in the living room and the master bedroom open out to a deck that overlooks a marsh, complete with snowy egrets, with a stunning view of the boat masts in the harbor beyond and the dramatic outline of Mt. Tamalpais against the sky to the southwest. There's a large second bedroom that doubles as an office, two full bath, and all the amenities for a comfortable lifestyle.
Important note: This house is our primary residence, available for 1-2 month stays while we travel, usually in the late spring and early fall. We have a one-month minimum stay, and our dates can be flexible, so try us!

About the host
Hosted by Janis Chan

Jeff is a retired university professor and writer; Janis is a writer and developmental editor. Our passion is traveling - we love to spend a month or more in a new city where we can get to know the people, explore the neighborhoods, go to the museums, and sample all the wonderful food. We have two beautiful grandchildren who live with their parents in Berkeley and a son who recently moved back to Truckee, California, close to the outdoor sports he loves.
Why they chose this property
Our home is actually our home, not a vacation rental. We rent it to other travelers while we are away, so it will not be empty and to subsidize some of our travel costs. The location speaks for itself. After living for 26 years in dark, damp forested area on the side of a hill, we fell in love with this house as soon as we walked in the door and saw the view. We love the convenience of the location and the wonderful neighborhood, where everyone is friendly yet never intrusive.
What makes this property unique
We love....
- Having breakfast in the sunroom watching snowy egrets in the marsh
- Sitting on the deck with a glass of wine and watching the sun set behind Mt. Tam
- Walking to the harbor and out the jetty into the Bay
- The open plan that lets us mingle with friends and family while preparing a meal
- Reading and dozing in the sunroom
- Taking the ferry into San Francisco for a day of museum hopping, shopping, or just wandering around
- Taking day trips to the beach
And we could go on....!
