About this property

Renovated mountain property, overlooking the Hiawasse River, featuring a heated pool (closed seasonally, depending on rental requests as late as Oct). Up charge for heat, if needed. Recent 6 person Hottub. Amazing views from inside or outside, and several thousand square feet of concrete and trex decking makes this property a wonderful vacation setting. Sleeps a maximum of 10. Two sets of twin bunks are recommended for children. Tight for 10 adults.

Centrally located within 1 mile of downtown Murphy, with multiple delicious restaurants, 4.4 miles to the recently built $200+M Harrah's Casino, and less than a 45 min drive to the Nantahala Gorge white water rafting center with zip lines. Fun for just about all ages.

Home includes Foseball/Soccer and Ping Pong table.

Amazing Place

This is a very peaceful and comfortable place to stay. We enjoyed the heated pool, fire pit and having our morning coffee out on the deck overlooking the lake. Lots of wildlife including a baby deer 20 feet from the porch. Communication with Scott was good. The outdoor furniture is outstanding and comfortable. We are already thinking about our next trip. The Perfect Place to Disconnect

This was a wonderful place to stay with family. Our teens and nine year old loved it. We had plenty of room in the home to have alone time from one another and more than enough activities to do with eachother. The pool and hot tub was absolutely perfect we enjoyed soaking under the sunsets and stars every night. Our host was quick to respond and considerate of our needs. The kitchen was stocked well, we didn’t have to purchase any spices at all! We took a drive to the Tallullah Gorge State Park and Helen GA to explore since we were only about an hour away. We loved our stay!

Perfect Family Getaway

I can’t say enough how much we enjoyed our week at the Cactus Cabin!! Everything from the house, to the view, to the town was perfect for our getaway. We had 6 adults and 2 tweens and the house met our needs perfectly. Thank you for a great stay!! We will be back!

Serenity

The views of the mountains were stunning. We also were treated to an eagle flying over the property almost daily, and a herd of 7 deer came to the neighbors in the morning and evening to eat the corn they would put out. The property was in a neighborhood with one lane roads so be sure to go slow. The house was perfect for the 5 adults and the weather warmed up so we were able to use the pool without the heater. My husband went on a charter fishing trip with an area guide and caught big stripers. We walked the Murphy Riverwalk, kayaked the river, enjoyed steak dinner at The Chop House and pizza buffet at Downtown pizza (great salad bar). We'll definitely stay here again of we come back to the area. Thank you Scott for being a great communicator and having your property on VRBO.

Visiting the new grandbaby.

We enjoyed our stay. The deck was awesome and the views even better. Not far from town and the road wasn’t bad getting there. Loved the rocking chairs and swing on the deck. Had our meals utilizing the picnic table. The walk to the lake is a little hard for a couple of them that tried it, but we didn’t come for that. Master bedroom is very nice.

House is beautiful, loved Murphy

My mom, baby Bella (mini Aussiedoodle), and I had a fantastic experience! The owner was communicative and the house had everything we needed. Being close to downtown Murphy while still enjoying some seclusion was the perfect balance. We definitely plan on coming back!

We loved the views! Scott was so easy to work with and answered all my questions quickly! We missed getting to use the pool but plan on staying here again! Very spacious and the porches and outdoor eating was enjoyable!

Great motorcycle staging place

The house was outstanding. Easy place to get to, although the last quarter mile is tricky if you are on a bike and haven't been there before. We did not use the pool or hot tub, although on reflection wish I had paid for use of the tub. The little town of Murphy, literally next door, was a great place to eat and meet new people. We ate at a different place every day with no issues. I cannot say anything bad about the house because it is/was a great place to stay! If I come back to Murphy in the future, I will be looking to see if this place is available!

Spectacular View/Family Friendly

The home is just 7 minutes from downtown Murphy. The home was very clean and sufficiently stocked. Being cold we didn't use the pool but loved having nightly fire and the hot tub and treasured the view of the river. Only struggle due to the colder temperature was the kids froze in basement and didn't like it down there along with having to use a space heater in the Master suite. I'm guessing it would be easier to regulate in the summer. Owner and property manager responded quickly to our questions. We had a wonderful Christmas in the mountains! Tips: Order Ingles curbside pickup for groceries. Murphy River Walk is a wonderful hike along the river. Parson Pub has great Shepards Pie and Crafted Dough has great coffee and boozy drinks. Fun town, beautiful area, and this is a great house to enjoy while in the area.

Family retreat

The house was wonderful, just as advertised. The view was beautiful, GPS took us straight to the house. The beds slept great. Very close proximity to the casino. I just have 2 MINOR suggestions not complaints. You need a large frying pan for those of us who cook and directions on how to operate the tv’s 😂. My Mom and sisters are over 80 and had a time with the tv’s but kept bragging on how beautiful the house was. We had a great time and would love to come back during the summer.

Cactus Cabin retreat

Can’t say enough great things about our stay. Scott is a gracious host. The house is amazing. We were there late for leaf peeping but still saw some color. The house is very comfortable. The kitchen saw a lot of use during our stay; it is well stocked. Didn’t use the pool but the hot tub is a great way to end the day and helped provide sound sleep on the comfortable bed. The back porch swing is very inviting; we sat on it to watch a hawk get chased off by crows. We saw the deer many times. We were sad to leave. We visited downtown Murphy and it was very nice. We visited Dahlonega and Blue Ridge in Georgia, which never disappoint. We loved our ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad out of Bryson City. We also drove the Cherohala Skyway which is a blast. If you are interested in this house, just rent it, you’ll love it.

Great getaway with amazing view

Fall Break Getaway

We had an amazing time here! The property was clean and as described in its listing. The view was so beautiful, the pictures do not do it justice. We had plenty of room for our group of 8 (5 adults, 3 kids). We cooked in almost every meal and ate our dinners on the deck, the kitchen was well stocked. The owner was very accessible and responded quickly to any inquiries. We took full advantage of the pool, hot tub and fire pit. Downtown Murphy had several cute antique stores and boutiques as well as restaurants. Black White Market was our favorite store. We also visited Field of the Woods, the Sasquatch museum, and spent a little time in downtown Blue Ridge GA. We will definitely stay here again.

Breathtaking view

Pictures do not do this place justice. The view at this property is absolutely breathtaking. The home was equally impressive and the amenities were exceptional. The heated outdoor pool was my personal favorite of the trip. My daughter and her friends occupied the downstairs level and loved the bunk beds. The rocking chairs and porch swing were the perfect start and finish to each day. I look forward to spending many more vacations here!

Beautiful views and sunsets!

Beautiful place with something for everyone. Great for large groups too. Close to the Casino if that is what you like. One mile from Downtown Murphy. Perfect location! Love the Pool and the Hot Tub. Wonderful Mountain Getaway!!

Staying at the Cactus Cabin was just what our family needed during the hottest days of this 2023 summer. The views were absolutely breathtaking. Having our own pool, hot tub, fire pit and grill made the stay feel like we had a private resort all to ourselves. There was also plenty of extras like pool toys/floats/goggles and spices/essentials for the kitchen which helped us to settle in and relax without having to run out to the store. Our crew included 5 kids ranging in age from 5 to 17. There was plenty to keep everyone entertained. The owner was very friendly, helpful and quick to respond to any of my questions. We would definitely recommend this property to other families and plan to stay again in the future.

Family vacation

Our family of eight had the most wonderful week. The location can't be beat, fantastic views! Coffee in hand, we spend mornings on the deck. Long afternoons around the pool and hot tub. I feel the house is more accurately three bedroom. The fourth is a cave in the basement. The house is dated and some attention needs to be given to better cleaning. However, communication with the property manager was excellent. He always responded promptly when you needed. I would recommend this location.

Disappointing interaction with owner and VRBO extortion policy violated

The house was beautiful with amazing views. Murphy is a fantastic town. The pool is huge with a deep end. The hot tub is brand new and you can connect your phone via Bluetooth to the speakers. The ping pong table is commercial grade and looks new. The property is not waterfront. When we rented this house, we specifically filtered for waterfront property. That was a deal breaker for our family’s needs. This house was listed as water front. When we arrived, we saw that there was no way to access the water from the house. And there was an aerial map of the house, hanging on the wall that clearly marked the property boundaries as not accessing the water. When we realized it wasn’t waterfront, we talked with Scott. He took no ownership of the inaccurate listing information and said his ex wife listed the house and he didn’t know it was listed as waterfront. After several excuses from Scott, I finally told him that we would be leaving to get a waterfront place on the Lake. And we requested a refund for the days we didn’t stay. His reply: IF he gave us the refund, he expected that we would not leave each other reviews. I told him that was a violation of VRBO extortion policy. The problems with the house added up and Scott just continued to take no ownership. You can see the other reviews that were left on this property and his response to them. Just make an informed decision when choosing to rent this house. There are MANY other options.

Why they chose this property

My plan was to have this be my first flip home. However, I got carried away with upgrades, fell in love with the views, and the warm feel of Murphy and it's wonderful, friendly residents. Bought my two partners out and finished the project with the quality required to eventually call it my retirement home.

What makes this property unique

Views, views, views! Also love the privacy and the pool and hottub.

The small town is so much fun (live music, etc.), don't miss a night on the town early into your trip! Have the town preacher serve you a beer and share the word at Parson's. He won't bring it up unless you do, but he has a great story and is easy to love!
