MERMAID COVE - A collection of four units on Duval

Mermaid Cove features four separate units (two cottages and two apartments), each with a private entrance and all decorated and furnished in charming tropical fashion. The units surround a central courtyard with outdoor patio furniture and a large gas BBQ grill. Mermaid Cove allows you to gather as a group, but also enjoy privacy. With accommodations for up to 10 people, it is perfect for extended families, a bunch of friends, bachelor/bachelorette parties, or wedding parties.

Mermaid Unit 1 is an upstairs unit with a king bed, full kitchen, full bathroom, and living room with full sofa and a mini-split air conditioner. The living room has a flat-screen Smart TV and French doors that open onto a deck with table and chairs. It sleeps two people.

Funky Unit 2 is downstairs with a queen bed, full bathroom, mini kitchen with under-the-counter fridge, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, blender, a smart TV, and a mini-split air conditioner. It sleeps two people.

Ocean Cottage 3 is free standing and has a king bed with French doors that open onto the central courtyard. The bathroom includes a shower. The kitchen has a mini-fridge, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, blender, smart TV, and a mini-split air conditioner. It sleeps two people.

Nautical Cottage 4 is at the rear of the courtyard and features natural cedar walls. At the entrance is a beautiful mosaic-tiled 20-foot wall with a one-of-a-kind mural of a Key West beach scene with a Mermaid! This unit features 2 queen beds, a bath with shower, kitchen with a mini-fridge, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, blender, a flat screen smart TV, a small sitting area/dining table, and a mini-split air conditioner. It sleeps four people.

The courtyard has a large Weber Genesis grill and large outside stainless steel sink that can be used to clean your catch of the day from your fishing excursions. The lights on the patio at night can be casual with the blue rope or blue lamps, or you have the ability to turn on a powerful LED light to light up the entire patio. The courtyard also has a Mermaid bottle opener and a weathered bell to get everyone's attention for a special toast or occasion.

Note: Parking in Key West is very limited. This property has no assigned parking and is street parking only. You are responsible for finding parking for your vehicle.

The individual making the reservation must be 25 years or older with proper identification and be an occupant of the property. The maximum number of people allowed in this property is 10. If there are more than 10 people are in your party upon arrival, your party will be asked to leave without compensation. Violation of ANY house rules will result in your party being asked to leave without compensation.

Great location

Great house, all rooms with individual complete privacy. Very fast responses from the owner/service. The BEST… 20 steps away from the BEST breakfast & lunch in Key West and 1 block to the most amazing dinner place! Will stay here again. However, only street parking which you have to pay for. Best to rent a golf cart or scooter.

Perfect for large family!!

We had 7 in our family-2 parents, 3 sisters (1bf),1 birthday boy (21)...it was beyond perfect! Location is perfect...The whole place is part of the Key West experience and close to attractions, beach, restaurants....Loved every minute and they were amazing host.

This Vrbo was Very clean, Right on the Duval St. Perfect location. i would highly recommend this for large groups, Multiple family. Right next to the bike shop was a plus. Great location. Love it. 10⭐️

Girls Trip

We had a good stay. We were a little surprised because we thought the place was on Duval street however it was down a little alley beside a place right on Duval street. It is dated but clean and plenty of room for everyone on the trip. Was a little surprised about the Gentlemen s club 2 doors down that was not disclosed when I booked the location but we had no problems with them and our stay turned out really good. We would stay here again if we returned to Key West.

Perfect for girl's trip!

We were a group if 9 girls and this was the perfect set-up for us. We loved the location and outdoor space. The cottages were small and more run down than the pictures show but we spent most of our time outside so it really didn't matter to us. We would definitely stay here again.

Great place for a wedding reception

We had a wedding reception with about 28 people and had plenty of room. The only downside was the outside lighting, wish we had more. Very private and quiet.

This property had a great layout for our group with having the separate spaces and the outdoor gathering place was great, we spent a lot of time there. They had a great grill and an awesome location. But, a few things needed some updating. If you advertise blue rope lights on the patio you should spend the 12 bucks on a new strand when only three feet of the current strand actually works. No big deal but don’t advertise it. The TV’s are small with a bad picture ( unit 1 didn’t work at all) trash cans falling apart, and the front entry gate/door isn’t secure at all. I stayed in Unit 2 , the smallest of the four and it was REALLY small. No place to put your luggage. There was a little closet that had lots of hangers so I hung what I could I ended up just sleeping on half the bed and storing some of my thing on the other half and the chair next to the bed ( no night stand) My biggest complaint with the room was the bed…so uncomfortable. I woke up early every morning with the worst back ache from the bed and could never get back to sleep because my back hurt so bad….so unfortunately I was really tired everyday of my vacation …on the bright side….I saw a bunch of sunrises because I was up. I had seen on the amenities list that there was a washer and dryer which was awesome. I emailed them to double check because I didn’t want to pack for a washer and dryer and then not have them. I was told there was no washer/dryer and the closest laundromat was a 4 - 5 minute car ride. Then we get there and find a washer and dryer. Not a huge deal but I would have packed totally different had I known. Not really sure how a person wouldn’t know all these things about a property they are managing. Overall it was ok..nothing really to write home about but served it’s purpose and provided a nice gathering space for our group. For me personally I will stay someplace else on my next visit and that’s all based on the beds

Property Misrepresented

We rented Mermaid Cove from 12/25/21 - 1/1/22 for a family trip. We had saved for such a trip for a few years and selected this property based on pictures and descriptions from VRBO. Upon arrival at the property we found it to be run-down, outdated and dirty. The info listed on VRBO is not accurate. They pictures do not reflect the condition of the property today. The "cottages" are more like rooms - tiny. There is little to no storage. There are no large flat screen tvs (as advertised), rather there are very small low-def tvs that don't work well. There is no outdoor canopy as shown for unit 1, and the amenities such as blow dryers, etc. are not available in all units. The furniture shown in the listing is not all there, nor is it in the condition shown. Patio furniture is rusty and the webbing coming apart. Paint is peeling everywhere and the light fixtures are rusty. Outdoor garbage cans were disgusting. The interiors were worn. Everything - walls, floors, furniture, etc. - show signs of wear. The bathroom in unit 1 does not have a mirror over the sink or near an electrical outlet. The bathroom door is held open with a worn string. The wooden towel bars have black mildew on them as does the floor by the shower. The baseboards are covered in dust that has been there awhile. The shower stalls barely fit an adult. There were multiple sewage back-ups in the shower and bathroom sink during our stay as well as a loss of electricity in one of the units. We made 3 service calls before we were half way through our stay. The maintenance crew made it known that these were known, ongoing problems. There is a gentleman's club right next door. The women working there sit on the front porch and solicit all day. Keys are provided for each unit and then one for the main entrance to the property. However, someone has cut out an area of the fence that allows for anyone to reach around and unlock the main entrance. It is not a secure property. We made multiple attempts to speak with the management company during and after our stay. NOT ONCE have they returned a telephone call or an email. As we write this review on 1/12/22, we are still waiting for a response. We are now working with VRBO to further resolve this matter. There are many beautiful Key West properties. Stay somewhere other than here and do not select a property that is managed by Key West Hideaways. We are so disappointed in how this turned out.

Not as centrally located as we would have preferred. Did not believe the ac was functioning properly in 1 of the rooms. The washer/dryer was quirky. It was clean and did the job for us. Would explore different option next time.

Mermaid Cove Bachelor Party Stay

Mermaid cove was perfect for 9 of us guys staying there for a bachelor party. Having 12 guys would still have been comfortable. The courtyard in the middle was perfect for us to hang out if we weren’t out.

Perfect for a large group! Walkable distance to small beach and right on Duval but the quiet side so you can choose to be part of the action or not. Love the banana cafe next door and the workers who said hi every morning! A couple more baking pans would be ideal but that would be my only complaint. When we needed things I could call and they would be brought over right away!

We planned to stay at Mermaid Cove Labor Day weekend (Friday-Monday). Thursday afternoon before heading down, I called the office to confirm everything was still on given that a category 5 hurricane (Dorian) was tracking towards Florida. A quick conversation and Kevin assured that any change of plans due to the hurricane would result in a refund. Well sure enough, one day in, and all 9 of us on the trip had our Monday flights cancelled with the airline telling us we could be rebooked Thursday/Friday at the soonest. They gave us one option, leave the next morning, which we did. We checked out at 11am and I immediately sent Mermaid Cove an email informing the same. No response. I sent a follow up email, no response. I called the office, spoke with someone who acknowledged our situation but said he couldn’t help and the person who could wasn’t in the office. They would call tomorrow. They didn’t. Finally someone called days later and informed Kevin didn’t recall the conversation and in essence that I lying... wow! My call logs show otherwise, and Kevin knows otherwise too. In terms of the property... location is decent, outside courtyard space is nice when weather is good (only real living space with a house set up for large group), and the rooms/bathrooms are extremely tight. I will not stay here on my next visit to Key West.

Mermaid Cove April Retreat

Mermaid Cove was great. The location was perfect, the bedrooms were great for four couples. The only thing lacking was the kitchen and bathrooms. Very small, kind of shabby and uncomfortable bathrooms and the only full kitchen was tight to cook in. The grill and picnic table were great, as long as it doesn't rain.

Was Perfect!

We had twelve guests, so we maximized the use of the Mermaid! There are no complaints here. We were a short walk to South Beach, the Southernmost Point, etc. This end of Duval is quiet and quaint. The rooms were clean and our group loved meeting in the middle for fellowship! We would stay here again with no hesitation.

Adorable spot, great location!

A few friends in the group arrived early before me and I booked the place. They were allowed to keep their luggage at the rental office while waiting for the place to be ready. They were given the keys without me being there. Very convenient! The rest of us arrived and fell in love with the place. Adorable decorations, great location on quiet south Duval. We rented bike and scooters for the week - which is located across the street and about a half a block away - and had plenty of space to lock them to the railing walking up to our front door. Banana Cafe and the smoothie place are next door and made it very convenient for breakfast in the morning. We did take out some days that we had early excursions booked. The common courtyard in Mermaid Cove was perfect for drinks and socializing before heading out on the town. The separate bungalows made it great for privacy and getting a group ready to go out. Great spot for a group of friends and couples traveling together. Hope to stay here again in the future! Thanks Mermaid Cove for a great vacation!

Soooo this was perfect.

This place was perfect for a big group. I literally have nothing bad to say. It's worth every penny you spend. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Everyone has there own areas when they want them and then the social spot on the deck in the middle. Thanks again

Great decision!

We were in Key West for the wedding of one of my children. (The newlyweds had their own place.) My other three children, their spouses and children and my husband and I stayed at Mermaid Cove. It worked perfectly for us! The enclosed courtyard was wonderful for little kids as they were essentially "locked in" and we didn't have to constantly corral them. Each family had their own space, yet we could gather as a group when need be! We did have an AC issue the first night, but it was remedied before bed the next night. They are very prompt in taking care of problems. Having a washer and dryer onsite was extremely handy as well. There was a new establishment next door that had installed security lights that did not shut off. I simply called them each night and they turned them off for us. I know the Key West Hideaways property manager was working on the situation when we left. Definitely a wonderful setting for a large group. Location was fantastic! Wedding was wonderful :-) I would definitely consider staying here again!

Good times in Key West

This space is in a great location on Duval St. with easy access to all that Key West has to offer. Go to the Rum Bar down the street and ask for Jill! We had a large group and it accommodated us nicely. The central courtyard was great for gathering as a group and entertaining as expected. Very easy check-in/out process as well.
